Pretty sure you will see Brady Gesenhues, Trent Casebolt and Austin Mayhew. Too early to tell on any others IMO.

Agreed that it's not easy to pick up after not having played; but that doesn't mean none can do it. If through tryouts someone who hasn't played demonstrates he can do so and will help the team this year, why not have him on the team?

Knowing what they have in the program and the strides that have been made over the last several years I really do not see how kids that have not played in several years can step in and play at the same level as kids that have continued to play. Takes the program backwards in my opinion. Of the three major sports, baseball is the hardest to pick back up IMO and basketball is not much farther behind.

Feb 15th is fast approaching and we'll know more then... The strides JB has made with the program over the past couple of years have many kids excited about baseball, which is excellent for HHS athletics. I know several kids have been working hard individually to improve their skills and are looking forward to competing. Having many kids tryout can only help the program IMO. If 70+ show up for tryouts, as one posted has indicated, there will be tough decisions for the coaching staff no doubt.

I do remember in 20n10 when 15 Srs wanted to tryout for the team and were told dont bother because they hadnt played in 2 or 3 yrs.

 

Oh yeah, those 15 Srs were all members of the Football State Championship team and 10 of them used to play on a certain team that owned NKY and Greater Cinti in baseball growing up. Just sayin...

 

It WOULD surprise me if 15 seniors were told "don't bother" trying out.

 

It WOULD NOT surprise me if they, and anyone else that asked for that matter, were told they could try out and if they could help the team and abide by all rules and obligations of other baseball players, they would be welcome.

Sure. Everyone is trying out for the team. It's called tryouts for a reason and some will get cut. Now do you keep a kid that comes out as a Senior over a kid that has invested more years than him. I don't know. If that Senior is a superior baseball player and can help your team "win", then there might be a problem on who to keep. Is winning everything? Is it worth anything? Guess we will see sometime after Feb 15th.

It's actually now 68.

 

It was about 40 in year 1.

 

We've talked in the past about the "no spring break" rule (which I support) and we don't need to re-hash it. I mention it only to show that it is not hurting the program.

That is huge. No excuses why they don't compete this year for a regional championship or a state championship. Coach Baioni has a buffet to choose from this year. No pun intended on the buffet....
