  1. Yes you did. Hope you took it in the good nature manner it was intended. Just having some fun with you my friend.
  2. When seconds count, the police can't get there until minutes have passed. The only way I'd be opposed to arming teachers is if every school has one or more (depending on the size of the school) armed LEOs in the building during school hours. That will be expensive but I'd have no problem paying more taxes to make that happen.
  3. Have your talent assessment capabilities improved since the "worst offensive line ever" comment? Sorry, I just had to!
  4. Sorry TAC. Spindoc was spot on.
  5. Correct about Browning. Here is a link worth reading: The Sight's 1911 .45 ACP History. General Thompson is mentioned in the article. Thompson grew up in Newport and was a close friend to Henry's family and neighbor. Thompson got her grandfather a commission in the Army and they worked together in the Ordnance Dept.
  6. I've got two Colt full sized 1911s. Great weapons. Classics. I just don't have the time to shoot them, or any other weapon for that matter, very often.
  7. Just curious: how do you know when the kid signed his LOI?
  8. True; then again it doesn't hurt that 3 former UK players will be playing in the Super Bowl this weekend. Alabama may have even more than that, but it isn't shabby at all that UK has three. And truthfully, much like where you play in high school has little impact on whether you get a D1 scholly, where you play college ball doesn't have much of an impact on whether you get to play in the NFL. The power house college teams have more players in the NFL not because those players went to the power house colleges but rather because the athletes with NFL potential generally tend to choose the power house programs.
  9. Congrats to Brady. Extremely nice young man. I think he'll do a great job leading the freddies.
  10. A tangent to the topic: Duffy was the one that requested that the Jr. Football League "shut down" the 7th/8th grade division and put two teams in the Middle School League. I was the President of the Jr. Football League at the time. Duffy had a say in who the coaches were for those two teams from the beginning.
  11. I really hope Elam goes to UK, notwithstanding people's observations of his play in high school. Rarely have I ever seen a big lineman that impressed me in high school. Most of them are overweight, aren't strong enough and simply haven't had the time to "grow into' their big bodies. Hell, Larry Warford didn't impress me at all in high school and he was pretty much owned by Cody Rosenhagen. But he went to UK, got in shape (well, as much as some one that big can be in shape), got stronger, improved his footwork and became an All SEC linemen and I believe in playing in the NFL now. I can see the same thing happening to Elam if he is willing to do what it takes.
  12. The bolded brought back memories of my sons telling me that they dreaded conditioning when Dale had to miss because Brian would be in charge. It was no picnic when Dale was in charge, but it was sheer hell when Brian ran it. Will we see the return of Chips Across Ft. Thomas?
  13. I can't believe I forgot Wilbur. My O line coach. I thought of him as I was typing and then went and left him out. Hope he doesn't figure out who I am on here. He'll kill me! So add to my list another Highlands "insider" that did a great job when given the opportunity. My apologies to Coach Hermann. A great man and great coach too!
  14. Yeah you certainly hope so. But in the back of your mind, there is a little part of it telling you: what kind of people will my son be associated with and hanging around with at UL? Will Petrino be the kind of coach that reinforces what I've taught my son or will Petrino be the kind of coach that could be a bad influence on my 18 year old son living away from home and away from my guidance for the first time in his life and living in an environment that will provide a lot of temptations and opportunities for bad things to happen? If you don't think that a whole lot of Moms and Dads will be having those thoughts, I think you are mistaken.
  15. Wish I could have made it to the announcement but clients got in the way. I obviously think it was a great hire. I'm sure Brian will put his own stamp on things, but I'd be surprised if anything changes much. When you have a successful organization (any organization) and there is a change at the top, if you have someone internal that provides every indication that he or she is capable of successfully taking the reins, you give the reins to him or her. It doesn't always work out but very often it does. Brian understands the school, the administration, the program, the players and the community. No learning curve involved. I hate to bring up a bad wound, but I can't help but think about all the angst and heartburn that was caused when CovCath hired a football coach that didn't understand or appreciate the CovCath way. Highlands has had a lot of success when it hired one of it's own, be that a former player or assistant coach, as its head coach. Homer played at Highlands; he was replaced by an assistant (Owen Hauck); Owen was replaced by an assistant coach (Mike Murphy); Mike was replaced by an assistant coach (Roger Walz); Roger was replaced by an assistant coach (Jack Eicher); Jack was replaced by a very good coach but an outsider (Tom Duffy); Tom was replaced by a former player (Dale). All of those coaches with the exception of Jack have won state championships. The one outsider (Duffy) did win state championships but did a whole lot of damage to the program out in the community in the process and I am totally convinced that had he remained at Highlands, the football program would have been turned into shambles. So I'm really glad that Brian got the job. If he had not, my guess is that he would have left Highlands and taken a HC job elsewhere. If he had, he'd probably have taken a couple of asst coaches with him. One of the biggest (but often overlooked) reasons for so much success at Highlands during Dale's tenure, is the continuity of his coaching staff. So we'd not only have to replace a HC, but a DC and several other coaches also. Not the kind of thing you want to have happen in any organization when that organization is being very successful. Bottom line with me: I believe that Brian is very qualified; he understands "Highlands football" and its relationship with the community; he has certainly earned the shot; and to have not hired him would/could have created turmoil at a time when the players need to be doing the things that will help them win the state championship this coming December. It was a true "no brainer" hire for me.
  16. Then how about this: If a man will cheat on his wife, he will cheat on his program and his players. If his wife can't count on him to be honest, his program and his players can't count on him to be honest either. If a man's word is meaningless to his wife, his word will be meaningless to his program and his players. If you don't think that recruiters of opposing schools will be wearing out those messages to recruits and their parents and that such will have a huge impact (particularly with the parents), I think you are lying to yourself. Perhaps if Petrino stays at UL for 4 or 5 years and stays "clean" during those years, he'll be able to live down his past transgressions. But good Lord, he just left WKU after only one year. Unless a recruit is a complete dolt, he would have to be more than just a little concerned that Petrino could leave UL after a year or two if a better job becomes available. If your son was a top level recruit, which is the type of players that UL will need to sign if they want to do extremely well in the ACC, would you advise him to turn down offers from competing top level schools to pitch his fortunes with Petrino? Man, I sure wouldn't. Because of that I think Petrino will have a tough time recruiting against top level schools for top level talent for quite some time. It's more than just the physical act of cheating. It's the lack of integrity, honesty, dependability and commitment that Petrino's past behavior has demonstrated. And I like UL!
  17. Sister and brother in law got a Red Fox Lab about a year ago. Beautiful dog.
  18. I'm with you: keep the uniforms to just blue and white. Those are our school colors. Period. Will I get upset if they add red, black, purple, chartruse, etc? Nah. Got bigger things to worry about in my life. But I'd prefer the unis stay blue and white.
  19. In the past, when ever a school was permitted to move up, the smallest school in that class was given the option to move down. Most took advantage of that option. Result was that the numbers in each class remained the same. Personally I think a program should be given the opportunity to move up as many classes as it wants as long as it doesn't create severe travel problems for the other teams impacted by the decision. Bottom line for why the KHSAA got rid of the "free move up" rule was that coaches didn't like it when smaller schools moved up and won the championships.
  20. Perhaps. Then again, we may see the return of the more typical Highlands O line next year; smaller, quicker kids that came out of "no where" and turned out to be really good high school O linemen.
