Wouldn't surprise me if East Jessamine upsets Holmes in 4A

Not quite yet....Harrison and Holmes are both now 3-0 in the district with a match-up betweeen the two teams next week in Covington.

School and school activities have been cancelled from Thursday thru Sunday. This will not impact either the boys or girls state golf tournament.

I just heard that all Harrison County extracurricular activities from Thursday thru Monday have been cancelled...due to the flu, I guess. Football at Bardstown, boys and girls soccer, volleyball...everything.

From my seat, it looked like Harrison County was outplayed in every facet of the game, but still should have won. The Breds didn't block or tackle very well at all, had half a dozen or so bad snaps in the shotgun, and one on a punt, an untimely interception late, a couple of key injuries in the second half that really hurt...but, again, should have won the game. Montgomery County clearly outplayed and outhit Harrison County. Congrats to the Indians...back to practice for the Breds.

Change made by KHSAA mid-season....ALL ejections come with a two game suspension...players and coaches.

Tough judgement call by the home plate umpire on the Dye kid from Harrison County. The catcher WAS up the line about five feet or so and directly in the baseline. He jumped for the throw at about the same time that Dye arrived. I think Dye was unsure of what to do...the catcher wasn't where he usually would be...the throw requires the catcher to jump up to try and corral the throw.,,the pitcher is in the way as well....I really think he was between a dive and a slide in his own mind and just kind of did neither. I can guarantee you, the thought of barrelling over the catcher was not on his mind at all....I'd say Dye is about 5-5 and checks in at 130 pounds or so. By the way, his punishment is SEVERE....TWO game suspension, NOT one. He won't play again this year until the State Title Game, if the Breds make it that far. An unreasonably unjust punishment, especially considering the circumstances.

Definitely will start on Tuesday...neither team can play on Friday, as that is graduation day for HC. I think for B-wood as well, though I am not sure. Not absolutely sure about game 2...if it is on Wednesday and the two teams split, that would mean two days before the deciding third game, unless the tournament manager opts to play on Thursday...which would be my recommendation. If it takes three games to decide the champion, and if it is played on three consecutive days, which team would that favor? I don't know much about B-wood, but Harrison County's pitching would be just fine in my opinion. If B-wood doesn't have that kind of depth on the mound, it would be to their disavantage to play three straight days...St. Henry is managing the tournament and are a fellow 9th Region team of Beechwood. Certainly, St. Henry, as the host, should be as unbiased as possible, but the reality is that they are a 9th Region school and I would expect them to "lean a little" toward the Beechies and do what they can to help them out. For that reason, I would guess the tournament would be a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday format.

HC scored one run in the bottom of the first, but squandered a great chance to get more, leaving runners at second and third with only one out. Scott tied it in the fourth (I think) on a solo homer by catcher Osborne. HC took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Jared Martin singled with one out, advanced to second on a wild pitch. DH Drew Thompson grounded a single up the middle that scored Martin. lightening was then spotted and the game was suspended for about 45 minutes. When play resumed, Eric Case bunted, but the catcher's throw to first sailed into right field, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and the Breds leading 2-1. Josh Moss came to the plate and with a count of 1 ball and 2 strikes, was taken down by Coach Whitaker in favor of senior back-up catcher Bobby Feeback. Feeback worked the count to 3-2 and lined a single up the middle for another run. Malcolm Thomas singled to drive in the final run, making it 4-1. Sophomore pitcher Logan Dailey went the distance for the win, striking out maybe 6-8 batters. Pitcher Sowder for Scott also hurled a fine game, except for the two rallies that led to HC runs. He appeared to suffer no ill effects of the delay, though it can be argued that the delay did him no favors. All in all, a fine game, though Scott defensive misplays definitely hurt them more then HC errors hurt the Thorobreds. Gritty performance by the Breds to earn the win on Scott's home field. Next up for HC, Beechwood in the Semi-State 6 best 2 of 3 tournament. That tournament will begin on Tuesday at St. Henry at 7 p.m. Second game will be on Thursday, also at 7, with the third game, if necessary on Saturday at 7. I would think both teams would prefer to play on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, however, as a Saturday date would negatively impact pitching for the eight -team State Tournament the following week.

Wasn't Coach Coldirion also the head coach at Maysville High School back in the day? Seems like he was there one or two years back in the 80s.

Why did those two not play...illness or injury?

Pretty good list to start with Ja-man. I've seen a few games and think Jeff Davis does a good job as well. This is the central ky. area...what about the rest of you?

It is now official...Mark Carroll is the new head football coach at Harrison County. He is a young and energetic coach with a bright future. Very knowledgable about the game and will be a coach who can relate to the players, maintain disipline and build his program the right way. I think the folks in Harrison County are lucky to get this guy. He will need to build his staff, get the younger kids excited about playing football, and get to work in the weight room. I'm sure everyone will be supportive of Coach Carroll, win or tie....just kidding about that last part. Rarely does the Harrison County District dismiss a coach for not winning enough. If their coaches do the right thing, work at their job, treat the kids the right way, and still come up short in the wins and losses category, the vast majority of HC fans and administrators recognize when talent is there or if talent is not up to snuff. That being said, football is a bit different than some other sports in the talent category. I think in football you can take kids with average or below average athletic ability and make them into something where the sum of the parts is better than the individual parts themselves, if that makes any sense. That will be Coach Carroll's task...develope the average HC athlete into 11 or 22 youngsters that are will trained and able to work togehter as a solid unit.

I certainly don't want to pass on bad information, but I received word this morning that former Austin Peay, UK Assistant, Clark County and Fleming County coach Lake Kelly passed away last night. Coach Kelly was a true professional in the coaching ranks and one of the most noted defensive geniuses in coaching. He will be missed.

The tournament held this year is the fifth straight year the 38th (boys and girls) has been held at Harrison County. It has been determined that next year, and the years following, the site will be determined by the district schools on a rotational basis. For example, next year Deming will choose the site of the tournament, with the only provision that the tournaments will be held at one of the schools in the district...in other words, Deming could choose to have the tournament at their school, at Harrison Co., at Pendleton Co., or at Nicholas Co....but not at Mason Co. For those of you who attended the 38th District this year, could the other district school gyms handle the crowds that turned out this year? Does it matter? Is there a problem with Deming hosting the boys tournament, knowing that hundreds of people will be turned away, simply because of the size of the gym? When it's Nicholas County's turn, they are supposedly going to have a new gym ready that will seat 2300 people. On a side not, next year it will be the 38th District's turn to pick the site for the boy's 10th Region Tournament. Harrison County has the biggest gym in the district, and hosted the 10th Region Tournament on a yearly basis in the 1960s, before the Fieldhouse was built in Maysville. What are your thoughts on Harrison County once again hosting the 10th Region Tournament, in spite of the 2400 listed seating capacity?

The referee in question at Harrison County is not flamboyant in my opinion...I do not believe he wants to be the center of attention. Mondo has a unique style for sure, but he doesn't try to show anyone up at all. He is decisive with his calls and, in my opinion, a well-respected referee within the BBA. I think most coaches in the 10th and 11th feel pretty good about how the game will be called when he is on their game.

10th Region Girls Tournament will be at Harrison County, March 2, 3, 5, 6 First round games on MOnday night...6:30 and 8:15 First round game on Tuesday night....6:30 and 8:15 Semifinals on Thursday night............6:30 and 8:15 Championship gam on Friday night.....7:30

By the way cortezthekiller how much would you bet me that the 10th is at Mason Co. in 2010? Hey, I was just kidding...trying to make the point that now that we have opened Pandora's Box, by having the 10th Region Tournament in the third different venue in the past three tournaments, what's to prevent the 38th District from having the tournament anywhere it likes.... Could maybe strike a deal to use Memorial Coliseum in Lexington or the Civic Center in Frankfort...why not have it at Harrison Co or Pendleton Co. or Deming...Nicholas Co. is supposedly going to have a new gym up and running by the 2010-11 season. Why does the Regional Tournament HAVE to be held in a large venue? I guarantee if it was held at any of the four schools in the 38th, every session would sell out. Tickets would be at a premium...demand is greater than supply...and ticket prices shoot up. Could adopt a local ordinance that allowed temporary scalping licenses and charge a $500 fee to get that license. There's no end to the possibilities. Bottom line...I agree, the 10th Region Tournament will return to the Fieldhouse in 2010.
