All In Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 The Breds win the 10th....AGAIN!:dancingpa:dancingpa Details? Was weather a factor at all?
Hilltopper2005 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Harrison scored 1 in the first on a Matthew Dye single after a hit and an error by the Scott second baseman. It stayed 1-0 until the 4th or 5th when the #8 hitter for Scott tied it with a HR. Harrison then scored 3 runs in the 6th, 1 just before the lightning delay and 2 after the delay. Dailey got the complete game victory for Harrison County and Sowder who pitched an excellent game took the loss for Scott. Sowder pitched out of the jam in the 1st allowing only 1 run and really kept the Breds off stride until the 6th. Bobby Feeback had a huge pinch hit single as he came to bat with a 1 ball 2 strike count with 2 outs and delivered a single to make it 3-1. Harrison now advances to face Beechwood in what is a rematch from 2006 and should be a very good series. Good luck to the Thorobreds and congratulations to Scott on a great season.
hchs Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 HC scored one run in the bottom of the first, but squandered a great chance to get more, leaving runners at second and third with only one out. Scott tied it in the fourth (I think) on a solo homer by catcher Osborne. HC took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Jared Martin singled with one out, advanced to second on a wild pitch. DH Drew Thompson grounded a single up the middle that scored Martin. lightening was then spotted and the game was suspended for about 45 minutes. When play resumed, Eric Case bunted, but the catcher's throw to first sailed into right field, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and the Breds leading 2-1. Josh Moss came to the plate and with a count of 1 ball and 2 strikes, was taken down by Coach Whitaker in favor of senior back-up catcher Bobby Feeback. Feeback worked the count to 3-2 and lined a single up the middle for another run. Malcolm Thomas singled to drive in the final run, making it 4-1. Sophomore pitcher Logan Dailey went the distance for the win, striking out maybe 6-8 batters. Pitcher Sowder for Scott also hurled a fine game, except for the two rallies that led to HC runs. He appeared to suffer no ill effects of the delay, though it can be argued that the delay did him no favors. All in all, a fine game, though Scott defensive misplays definitely hurt them more then HC errors hurt the Thorobreds. Gritty performance by the Breds to earn the win on Scott's home field. Next up for HC, Beechwood in the Semi-State 6 best 2 of 3 tournament. That tournament will begin on Tuesday at St. Henry at 7 p.m. Second game will be on Thursday, also at 7, with the third game, if necessary on Saturday at 7. I would think both teams would prefer to play on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, however, as a Saturday date would negatively impact pitching for the eight -team State Tournament the following week.

I had been told that it was Wednesday, Thursday and Friday if necessary. Are you sure that it is Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday? That means Dailey is not eligible for Game 1. 10th Region rain delays may work to Beechwood's advantage.
hchs Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Definitely will start on Tuesday...neither team can play on Friday, as that is graduation day for HC. I think for B-wood as well, though I am not sure. Not absolutely sure about game 2...if it is on Wednesday and the two teams split, that would mean two days before the deciding third game, unless the tournament manager opts to play on Thursday...which would be my recommendation. If it takes three games to decide the champion, and if it is played on three consecutive days, which team would that favor? I don't know much about B-wood, but Harrison County's pitching would be just fine in my opinion. If B-wood doesn't have that kind of depth on the mound, it would be to their disavantage to play three straight days...St. Henry is managing the tournament and are a fellow 9th Region team of Beechwood. Certainly, St. Henry, as the host, should be as unbiased as possible, but the reality is that they are a 9th Region school and I would expect them to "lean a little" toward the Beechies and do what they can to help them out. For that reason, I would guess the tournament would be a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday format.
BaseballIsLife Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 This was Scott's last shot IMO of winning the 10th Region. Scott has had IMO some of the best classes it has had in a long time the last 3-4 years and they all just came up short in the end (all had the potential to win the region). From what I have seen in Scott's talent pool for the next up and coming years it looks bleak. This was a great game to be at. 1-1 going into the 6th inning where Harrison finally broke free of its hitting slump and drove in a couple runs to win the game. Congrats Harrison, you "won" the game hands down. Scott didn't lose it, you took it to them and now are the 10th Region Champions! Make us proud at Sem-State against Beechwood and represent our region well! As for my Eagles, you played your hearts out and thats all we could ask for. You laid everything on the line and came up just short. Hold your heads up Eagles, you made us proud in this one. You have nothing to be ashamed of. You had a great season, better than most of anyone could have expected from you and you took it to one of the top teams in the state. Great job Eagles on a fine year...
jahearme Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Congratulations to Coach Whitaker, his staff and the players. So, how many regional titles does Coach Whitaker have now?
All In Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Congratulations to Coach Whitaker, his staff and the players. So, how many regional titles does Coach Whitaker have now? Would like to know that as well. Also, can anyone provide good directions on how to get to the St.Henry facilities if your coming from Mason County? How are their baseball facilites, seating, parking, concessions, etc.? Was very happy with Scott High hosting of the 10th region this year, who will host the 10th region tournament next season? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks.
insertnamehere Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 from AA Hwy, take 275-West for a few miles, then 71/75-South to the first Erlanger exit. Take a right off the exit. St. Henry is on the right within a 1/4-mile. Park in front of school, then have to walk behind school to find field. It's a great facility - old Riverfront Stadium seats behind home plate. Get there a bit early to get one of those seats. Not sure about concessions.
BredFan Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Congrats to Harrison County! I really enjoyed their energy and how excited they were from start to finish. Their bench was very explosive in support of their team, as the Scott bench was much more mellow. I think that is a sign of knowing what it takes to win, and being excited when you see it happening. What a great year for Scott! Congrats to the seniors for being a part of a special time in Scott baseball. I'm sure Coach Roberts couldn't be prouder! As for the game, both pitchers were great last night! How could you fault either of them for their mistakes after the battled their hearts out. Sadly, the ball always finds the weak link when it matters and Scott's second basemen hurt them more than he helped. I feel for him, but it wasn't his night. I thought Scott would break through in the 4th, with runners on 1st and 2nd with zero outs, but a Smith strike out, followed by a force at second (I believe) doomed their chances. Why not bunt them over? Osborne's homer was great and really energized the Scott team. I wish it could have put them over the top, but HC is a fantastic team and has an amazing program. The best of luck to the Breds this week!

I just think of St.Henry as being small and was concerned about facilities and parking. Do they have a nice field?
All In Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 The Breds win the 10th....AGAIN!:dancingpa:dancingpa What do the Breds have coming back over the following seasons? Will they be contenders for awhile? They just always seem to reload. Any up an comers to watch for coming out of middle school or freshman now? Thanks.
Breds Fan Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Harrison this year starts 6 juniors(1 being a designated hitter), 1 senior, and 3 sophomores on most days. They have an 8th grader throwing the ball around the low 80's that will really help them in the future along with a few others in that age group. One that I believe has a big chance of becoming a great ball player is Hunter Hill. He is the young man hit in the head against Bracken County. This young man just has a great feel for the game and is a brick wall behind the plate. Congrats Breds!!!
