Best Umpires

Featured Replies

Who are some of the better umpires in your area? My top 5 would be:

1. Bernie Jenkins

2. Barry Follett

3. Scott Allison

4. Dave Hall

5. Bob Eades

Pretty good list to start with Ja-man.

I've seen a few games and think Jeff Davis does a good job as well. This is the central ky. area...what about the rest of you?

In the 8th region, there are quite a few good men like the following: Cedric Coleman, Manny Gonzalez, Terry Coldiron, Marcus Camacho, Lynn Gritton, Hilton Isable, Michael Rash, Jerry Mulberry

So THAT's what he's been doing after being president of the Confederacy!

Ron Arnsparger and JJ Wurtz of the 9th Region.

Chris Allen 16th region.

That would be my selection. Although yesterday in the Cooper vs. Highlands game Arnsparger suffered a concussion from a fouled tip baseball. Reports are he is doing fine and home resting. He DID try to finish the game by the way!

Very good choice.

Two of the best period.

Poor Ron, he was telling me prior to the Dixie game, that he hadn't got hurt yet this season. Get better soon sir!

Just talked to Ron tonight and he is doing better. Level 3 concussion and a severe headache. He asked me to pass on "Thanks for the support and he will be back on the diamond tomorrow.

I agree Ron too is one of the top in the state and wish JJ would come back out of retirement (assignor).

That is great to hear as Ron is one of the finest our region has. Him and Lyle Travis are top 2 in my book.

Although he's been around a while Dave Buerger is there too.

I have seen Ron Arnsparger do a few games as well as Lyle Travis.

As good as those two guys are, I will have to say my favorites are Manny Gonzalez and Cedric Coleman.

Manny has done quite a few Northern Kentucky University baseball series and worked the plate masterfully. He is just as good in the field as I haven't seen him out of position on a single play. He is also fun to have calling the games from a scorekeeper side of the game cause he will joke around with the scorekeeper in a few different ways when he signals in a change.

This weekend was the first time I have ever seem Coleman ump games and he was just as good as Gonzalez. Coleman's partner for both days was really good as well...Brett Simmons. These two guys, as well as Gonzalez, are a scorekeeper's dream because they make sure you know all of the changes as they properly signal them in one at a time. These guys look like they're fairly young as far as umpiring goes but if they're this good right now, then they'll be calling professional games of some sort in the very near future.
