I was at this one while following the end of Graves-Madisonville. A lot of the first half, it felt like the refs were struggling to keep a hold of the game, there were an unbelievable amount of unsportsmanlike penalties on both teams it felt like.

Madisonville's still very much a threat to make a run in 5A. Graves simply put forth an exceptional second half defensively to keep themselves in it with a chance to win. I'm all crashed out though, so I'm retiring for the night lol.

By far the closest game CAL has played all year. 5A is still BG's to lose, as far as I can see it.

Madisonville hasn't been nearly as dominant offensively as I thought they would be.

There's a couple caveats to that. Graves had a much better offense last year, the game was at Graves, and the game was also played under major rainfall. I was there at the game last year and still vividly remember how hard the rain was coming down lol. This year, GC has to go to Madisonville, and with their offense barely pushing past 150 yards per game on average, I don't foresee them even making it close.

Come the playoffs, I'm taking BG until I see them lose. South Warren, Cov Cath, and FD aren't around anymore, and they were the only teams they lost to in the playoffs for the past half-decade. The teams ranked above them right now are still firmly on a prove-it basis to me until they actually do it.

Final.

Calloway hadn't even won 4 games in a season in 9 years prior to tonight. They won 7 games in 2016; they never won more than 3 for the next 8 years and had 3 winless seasons in that timeframe.

I'll go with Boyle and Cov Cath as my top 2 for right now. Highlands and PT certainly have a lot of talent, but there's more holes in their game right now that keep them out of top 2 talks for me.

Their youth will probably the biggest thing holding BG back from being dominant. Having a lot of freshmen at QB will probably leave them more vulnerable than they are used to, but that's why they play the schedule they have, anyway.

By the time the playoffs roll around, BG will be dominant as they usually are because of their early schedule. No one else aside from maybe Cooper has challenged themselves as much as BG has.

Owensboro typically struggles when they play at Graves. This year, though, I think is a lot more comfortable for them. They really shouldn't have any issues holding Graves' struggling offense in check, and I don't think the Eagle defense has an answer for the kind of athletes the Red Devils are putting out this year. Could easily see a running clock in this one, honestly.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be at this one, and the radio broadcast flickered on and off before finally dying at the end, so if anyone had followed this one your thoughts would be appreciated. The Eagles notch their first win of the season mainly off the back of their defense, although their offense came up clutch when it needed to.

Graves just barely edged out their first win of the year last night, and the offense still consistently looked rough. The biggest issue by far for O is the Eagle defense.

Perhaps Boyle County is actually the caliber of program Highlands believes it is or should be. At least in the modern era, anyways.

Final. An absolutely DOMINANT showing for South Warren.

Brian York said it best towards the end of his broadcast of the game. Graves' offense is fundamentally flawed, if not outright broken right now. It also feels like they're playing up in regards to the non-district schedule, given the lower end talent on the team.

Kinda tough. The offense practically lost the game on Tilghman's first kickoff with a costly fumble, but was otherwise solid enough. Obviously, the defense got shredded all night long, but outside of Beechwood and MAYBE LCA, Mayfield won't see another offense like this either in the regular season or the playoff field. Cards will be fine the rest of the way, just a testament to how dominant Tilghman is.

I don't know who beats Tilghman in 4A if they're looking like this against a team like Mayfield. I'm not gonna go out and say another 15-0 year, but they're clearly the top dogs in their class again this year.

I was at this one. Honestly thought Mayfield would've been more competitive.

Apparently someone in Mayfield made a threat on social media earlier today. Extra police presence at Tilghman tonight for sure. Just stupid.

Owensboro, I think, needs to win comfortably here. Sure, DC might have good athletes, but they just aren't on the same level as St. X or CAL. If DC makes this a game, this is going to be a LONG season for the Devils.
