TilghmanPride Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 Paducah Tilghman 2-0 / Mayfield 2-0 The 2nd oldest rivalry in the state of Kentucky is back for game number 112. Mayfield leads the all-time series 53-48-10. Tilghman has won the last 2 in a row after breaking that forever long 17 game winning streak (2006-2022) the Cardinals piled up on PT. Tilghman will look to win 3 in a row for the first time since the 03-05 seasons. Tilghman through 2 weeks is averaging 56.5 ppg while allowing an even 21 on defense. Mayfield is averaging 47.5 ppg while only giving up 3.5 ppg on defense. Mayfield was able to put a running clock on Christian County less than halfway through the 2nd qtr and shut them out in a 55-0 win. They have the one common opponent in Graves County. Tilghman won 49-14 while Mayfield handled the Eagles 40-7. My immediate takeaways from the Graves game were how much PT strayed away from their normal game plan. It’s normally throw, throw and then throw some more. I can’t wait to see the final stats, but PT started the game running and ended it that way as well. As @Category_F5 brought up, that's the way the game has to be played at times. Different football for different situations. They were very content on doing just what had to be done in this one. Was that by design and maybe not giving the Cardinals not as much to look at for next week? I can’t answer that. I can say that PT did not get their speed and playmakers out in space like we are accustomed to seeing. Mayfield qb Gray Robbins was 21/33 for 234 yds against Graves and as a team had 26 carries for 124 yards, led by Josiah England with 14 totes for 71 yards. Mayfield had 9 players catch a pass in the game, a testament to getting it to whoever is open. Mayfield had 4 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. I will add the PT stats as they are available for comparative purposes as they both played Graves back to back weeks and that’s the best you can go off of this early in the year. This is the game to be at if you are contemplating where to go next Friday night. These teams, at least in my mind, are more evenly matched than maybe some had previously thought. Can Mayfield go to Tilghman and pull off this win? They absolutely can. One thing you’ve seen from Big Red over the years is that they can punish you when you make mistakes, and if PT has been consistent in one thing the first two weeks, those mistakes might scare the Tornado faithful more than they’ll let you know. What does BGP land have to say about this one? What are your keys to each team winning this coveted rivalry game? On a fun note, how many of the rivalries do like Tilghman/Mayfield and have the themed days at school during the week along with the pep rally's, bike rides back and forth between Paducah and Mayfield and the like? There has been some really neat stuff happen between these schools leading up to the game over the years. 7 1
Purple88 Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 This is the game I really want to go to one year! Both great schools and teams and fans and atmosphere I'm sure of. 3
jeff jackson Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 These 2 teams are without a doubt the best the purchase area has to offer regardless of size. Both are top 3 or 4 in their class. Both have speed to burn, are well coached and possess a plethora of ways they can beat you. IMO, the biggest factor for Mayfield is "Can they hold their own in the trenches" and for PT, "Can they hold Mayfield's vaunted air attack in check". Both teams will come into this game playing at a high level and with plenty of confidence. Neither team has much room for error, so, a turnover or 2 and whoever makes the fewest penalties could be the difference. I fully expect this one to come down to the wire regardless. 3

Not trying to look ahead but it seems Paducah will have the upper hand in the next few years (hope I’m wrong about that). It’s at Tilghman and they have some REALLY GOOD concession food on the visiting side. It’s the most wonderful week of the year down here in far western KY! 4
DaTruth Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 Glad to see someone getting this game thread started early...Glad to see Mayfield getting its first special teams touchdown ie Kick off and punt return since state championship game in 2023 none all of last year as I made that comment last year as a concern late in playoffs...Mayfield will definitely need more of this to beat PT and beyond...this is absolutely the game of the week in Western Kentucky...Like to see Mayfield spread the ball around as we did against Graves in order to beat PT...We have a common opponent in Graves which appeared to play decent defense against both but let's be honest Christian County had no resistance on defense but was successful at times running and throwing. PT will be a totally different animal...GBR and I can't wait for this one... 2
TilghmanPride Posted August 30, 2025 Author Posted August 30, 2025 Another neat thing I was just thinking about this game from a year ago was while we were on vacation and out in the middle of the Gulf on a cruise ship. I broke down and bought their expensive internet so I could watch the stream of the game, obviously I had to keep up with it. We were all going to a show in a big theater, quite a few people. As we were passing people on the way to find seats, we found several in attendance doing exactly what we were. It brought up good conversation with people we'll likely never see again. As we looked around the place, there were quite a few phones with streams of high school football on. The people sitting next to me were watching their grandson and their hometown team. Was great talking to like minded people. I think we may have gotten a few looks of disgust here and there. Just goes to show yet again, Friday night lights mean a lot to a lot of people, even on vacation. By any means necessary. 7

TilghmanPride Posted August 30, 2025 Author Posted August 30, 2025 Just now, theguru said: Thanks for sharing and another reason why all high schools should stream their games. Absolutely. All teams, if any way possible, should have some way to stream them. It should be doable for far more than actually do it. 2
TilghmanPride Posted August 31, 2025 Author Posted August 31, 2025 Now that we have the stats from both teams against Graves. Let's take a look. Mayfield had 241 passing and 124 rushing for 365 total yards. Mayfield averaged 4.77 yards per carry. Gray Robbins was 21/33 for 234 yds and no pass td's or interceptions. Mayfield had 5 rushing td's and ran the ball 26 times. Josiah England had the most yards with 71 on 14 carries. Tilghman had 239 passing and 156 rushing for 395 total yards. Tilghman averaged 4.33 yards per carry. Stone Crowe was 23/31 for 239 yds with 3 td's and an interception. PT had 4 rushing td's and ran the ball 36 times, 6th most in the Coach Thompson era. Demarkus Wilson had the most yards at 97 on 22 carries. Very respectable for the Graves D to hold both those running games at least in check. Tilghman had 7 players catch a pass, Mayfield had 9, both teams are willing to spread it around. Avery Thompson led with 10 catches for 128 and a td for PT, Diego Torres had the most yds at 48 on only one catch for Mayfield while Malik Kirby had the most catches at 6 for 43 yds. All in all, very similar for both against the Eagles. All in all, really similar numbers for both against the Eagles. 1 1
Astro Domino Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 This game is very hard to call for me. I think Paducah’s roster is the more talented of the two with that being no knock on Mayfield’s players. I would say experience-wise Mayfield has the upper hand. They have several guys that have played big roles for 3 years now. I can definitely see this game going either way and expect it to be a great game that I can’t wait to attend. It will be a great atmosphere especially with this being PT’s first home game of the year. No matter who wins or loses this game it will not define either team’s season but will give the winner a great boost heading forward and is a great measuring stick for both teams as this will be the toughest challenge for both until at least the 3rd week of the playoffs. I’m admittedly being a bit of a homer with my pick but I think if Mayfield doesn’t play too conservative on offense and takes some chances they will win this game. With that being said, of course turnovers always have a huge role in a game of this magnitude. Also the penalties, especially unsportsmanlike penalties, in a game that is almost sure to get chippy at times will sway the game one way or the other in big situations. I’m gonna take the Cardinals in a close one 31-28.
snakesnot_2000 Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 If Mayfield is going to win this game, they are going to have to win or play close to even on the line of scrimmage. PT has some big boys on their line so it's going to be tough. Also slow down PT's run game. I went to the Graves/PT game and based on what I saw, I believe Mayfield can play with them . I believe it will be hard to somewhat slow down PT's offense but their defense looked venerable. I think Mayfield can score on PT. As usual, penaltys , injuries could have an impact on the outcome. If Mayfield wins or plays PT close, I think it says Mayfield will be in the hunt for the 2A title. 3
theguru Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 Are we going to have video of this game? To me, this is can't miss if it is available.

Dukey_662001 Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 Tilghman's media department puts on a good broadcast. I believe it is pt athletics on youtube. 2 1
