From what I have heard, this article doesn't accurately reflect what happened. Keep in mind, this is all according to what the family claims. No evidence has been provided. No opportunity to respond. No witnesses giving their account of what they heard or saw. Even the alleged quote from Coach Cobb was provided by the family. I have heard there were multiple parents at practice this morning. I'd be curious what they saw. Can any of them confirm or deny that this Coach actually made those statements? Was there a 10 minute break prior to the team period at the end of practice? How many of the reps taken were live reps as opposed to walk through? Who was running the conditioning period? Was this some kind of extra "punishment" conditioning or the regular conditioning that the team does regularly? The story mentions that the cooling tub was not used, but it does not tell the reader that ice was applied to the armpits and groin area. It does not mention that the trainer was on site and directed the care provided. The trainer determined it was best to apply ice there on the field right away rather than move the player to the training facility behind the bleachers.

Does anyone have an example of an injury this year that would have been prevented by knee pads that were not worn properly? Or a mouthpiece that wasn't being worn? Just curious.

I think you have it backwards. According to KHSAA, Districts 3 (St. X/Manual) and 6 (Ryle) are considered Region 2 in 2024. District 4 (Male) and District 5 (Trinity) are considered Region 3 in 2024. Doesn't that mean X, Manual, Ryle are in the Western half of the state, and Male/Trinity are in the Eastern half?

If both T and H win their district, they will not meet in the second round. 1 seeds would play the opposite 4 seed in the first round. In the second round, the 1 seed plays the winner of the 2/3 seed game.

Out of state games do not explain Barren County over Male. The simple fact that it can produce this absurd a result should tell us that the system has major flaws.

Manual was in a difficult position having to hire a coach in July. Coach Gillispie stepped in under difficult circumstances and did a solid job. I'm sure that will weigh in his favor in this process. On the other hand, the school did not get a chance to do a full search for their new coach. This program hasn't made it past the 2nd round of the playoffs in 15 years. They haven't beaten their rival on Preston Highway for 10 years. For a program that is consistently in the top 10 in 6A, that is a surprise. They owe it to themselves, and more importantly, their kids to see if there is an applicant they think can take their program to the next level. Keep in mind, there are lots of things we can't see from the outside that impact the long term performance of the program. Most of us only see the scores. How did the staff function this year? How does the team feel about Gillispie? Were the players held to a high standard on and off the field? Were the players supervised appropriately? etc. Finally, the staff this year was mostly the same people hired by the previous coach. It may be that Manual wants/needs to make a clean break from all or part of that group and start fresh. I certainly wouldn't blame them if that's the case.

I have a novel idea: Instead of picking and choosing which plays to call a hold, why not call ALL the holds? Players will adjust and stop holding if the rule is consistently enforced. The fact that it's usually not called makes kids think it's ok to do it.

This problem is easily solved. The top 2 or 3 teams in each district make the playoffs. Let the teams that did not make it schedule an additional game the week of round 1. Then those kids get to play a competitive game.

What are the considerations the Board is supposed to consider for making a change? I assume travel time. I remember in the past they said they were also considering other factors, like similarities in the schools, like income. Am I remembering that correctly?

It would be nice if KHSAA would release the names of schools that have requested to play up and which schools have accepted the opportunity to move down in class.
