  1. Smith also played at North Texas - that makes a total of 5 colleges. Not exactly a sign that he knows a lot about what it takes to be successful in college.
  2. I was told they joined a league in southern Ohio and will be participating in the post season there. Not sure how that impacts the KY schedule and/KHSAA rules.
  3. 3 is clear. The student has 8 semesters or 4 years from the start of 9th grade.
  4. Chris Barclay - Outstanding coach and still holds the rushing record at Wake Forest.
  5. Does that mean that they will not be participating in the playoffs? Also, is there a list of schools that are approved for football on KHSAA's website?
  6. Are they approved by KHSAA to compete in football this fall? Will they be in a district?
  7. Don’t underestimate this program. They already have a lot of experienced and very talented football players. What district will they play in?
  8. Yes, they are a private school. They are restarting their football program. Many players have transferred in from other high schools. Evangel will be loaded with talent.
  9. This is not completely true. For example, Barret Traditional Middle School kids are guaranteed entry into Male and Johnson Traditional Middle School kids are guaranteed entry into Butler. Kids enrolled in Brown before high school are guaranteed entry into the high school. JCPS has made their student assignment plan so complicated that very few generalizations apply to every situation. I suspect the Dubois kids will be allowed to continue into high school at Dubois if they choose.
  10. From what I understand, the "announcement" of Demarcus Smith in November was premature. My understanding is they are now going through the official process. I'm told the job will officially be given to Smith in the near future.
  11. Here is a link to the most current guidelines issued today: http://khsaa.org/resources/Covid19/khsaajune2020covidallowancesandrestrictions.pdf They still say "Additional Guidance for Football practices beginning June 15 will be forthcoming" on page 11. This must be making it really difficult for coaches who are trying to plan practices for Monday and still don't have the rules.
  12. This is something confusing about the rules. There are 4 categories of sports: Low Touch/Indoor, High Touch/Indoor, Low Touch/Outdoor, and High Touch Outdoor. Each has their own rules, but none of the sports can have practices until June 15. They also use the phrase low touch to describe the amount of contact allowed at a practice. Football is considered a high touch/outdoor sport, but will be limited to "no touch" practices from June 15 to June 28.
  13. June 29 is the day KHSAA moves to what they are calling Segment 3. It's unclear exactly what that will mean for high school. For youth sports, that will mean "low touch" practices, "medium sharing" of equipment, and no more that 50 youths at practice.
  14. There is no scheduling agreement in JCPS that requires schools to play one another out of district. Looks like Ballard put together a really solid schedule for this year.
  15. You're correct about some AD's, but I think some AD's had a plan in place. It is difficult to finalize a plan without knowing the rules. The problem goes higher up. -KHSAA said team could meet starting June 1, but they waited until May 29 to provide the rules. -The rules provided on May 29 specifically say more guidance about the requirements for football practice starting June 15 would be coming. That document has still not been provided. -JCPS says it will provide additional rules beyond the youth sports guidelines and the state rules, but those have not been provided. The lack of clarity makes it difficult to finalize a plan. We now have CDC Guidelines, State rules for youth sports, and KHSAA rules. We are waiting for KHSAA sport specific guidelines and, in Louisville, JCPS rules. Just make one set of rules for everyone and stick to them.
  16. KHSAA Guidelines provide for no equipment, shared footballs, pads, etc. There is just not much to sanitize, especially if you practice outside. If a school is not prepared to use the weightroom, don't use it. I get that. I would guess there are very few schools that can properly social distance in their locker rooms. Don't use the locker room, until you have a plan. If a team has scanner thermometers they ought to be able to have an outdoor body weight workout using social distancing. If you want to be wild and crazy, each player could have a single plate or dumbbell to use for a workout. Those items could be sanitized after each workout, if the school or coach can get the supplies. It just doesn't seem that complicated to me. There is some risk of illness in having football workouts at school. There is a lot more risk in working out with a "trainer", at the YMCA or other gym, youth league practice, AAU practice, etc. JCPS, Oldham Co. and others have it backwards in my opinion.
  17. I don't doubt that someone will try to sue. They absolutely will. That's why schools and coaches should be following the National and State protocols. However, kids have gotten sick at schools since we've had schools. I'm not aware of any school being successfully sued for a kid getting sick unless the school is somehow negligent. Can we sue if a kid gets the flu, pneumonia, cholera, tuberculosis, staff infection, etc.? What is going to change between June 15 and June 29? Nothing. It is just delay for delay's sake.
  18. I completely agree they are violating the state standards for social distancing. That's exactly my point. The high school coaches would be much more likely to follow the correct protocol. KHSAA is allowing schools to start back on June 15, but it sounds like some school districts are not going to allow their coaches to start back until later.
  19. Kids can work with "personal trainers", go to their gym, or practice with youth league coaches, but they can't work with their high school coaches. I really don't get it. I'm seeing videos of kids working with "trainers" on social media almost daily. They are in groups of more than 10, the trainers are not wearing masks, the are sharing equipment (balls, blocking pads, etc.). Wouldn't it be better to allow these kids to work with their professional coaches?
