It's the AP, enough said...they may know less about Football teams and players than my wife's book club.

A lot of talent in 4A this year, I agree it's loaded, I used to be an Assistant Coach at the FCS level many years ago. Kids are just much more athletic and physically strong in High School than they used to be. On the topic of Boyle, we know of 2 players for sure but Kelly is the only other definite D1 player just because of skill and strength, speed by a big guy,the only thing his 6'2 or so height will hurt him a bit, so it will take the right fit. I see Kelly as a kid that plays in the MAC.Most every school at the D1 level has a specific criteria for height, weight, strength, speed,by position if you don't meet those requirements they wont open one's film, so a lot of really good football players are missed out on. That is what hurts lots of really good players and it's out of there control. Colleges these days will say give me 6'5 or so lineman , or a 4.5 or lower 40 and you can play D1 even if you are a average football player. Coaches believe they can coach players up if they are athletes and have the physical attributes.

The AP is an absolute joke on its voting and most people in the know put no weight in the AP for the most part. All of these All State teams will have kids left out. Really the Courier Journal gets it the closest just because coaches vote.

Central/Corbin (3A Championship) Updates
RetiredCoach80 replied to swamprat's topic in KY Football (High School)
Both teams looks slow tonight and not very impressive by either squad including Coaching. -
Boyles Quarterback has killed Boyle 4 turnovers in the red zone by him Corbin d has dominated Boyle.

That shows and proves definite pass interference. My last year of coaching High School before moving to college they put the rule in "any contact prior to the ball arriving including use of hands is pass interference" so that picture should end the discussion.

I’ve heard it will be Nebraska also. -
3A #1 Boyle County at 3A #5 Lexington Catholic
RetiredCoach80 replied to charlesw88's topic in KY Football (High School)
If Boyle County is healthy, especially if Smith and Kelly are back this week I wouldn't expect this game to be close, just from the pressure by Kelly and Smith's ability in the secondary makes things more difficult for Allen and Catholic. If those two don't play it could possibly be a game. I'm assuming they are playing and going Boyle county 49-21. -
Wilson Kelly & Reese Smith out for Boyle?
RetiredCoach80 replied to RetiredCoach80's topic in KY Football (High School)
Kelly wasn’t ejected in that game that was Hatter. I went down to that game with a Coach from EKU and we were watching players closely especially Kelly. It was confirmed he had surgery yesterday but no more details than that. -
Wilson Kelly & Reese Smith out for Boyle?
RetiredCoach80 posted a topic in KY Football (High School)
I just heard from my buddy over at Danville that Wilson Kelly,Boyle's leading tackler and olineman who Smith has been playing both ways had surgery yesterday and is out. Kelly and Smith are Boyle’s 2 best players and with both of them out Boyle is nowhere near the same team. Anybody have details of Kelly’s injury?? -

I’m going to this one, I think Desales pulls away late but Catholic is going to score just not enough. Desales 42-28 -
3A #1 Boyle County vs 6A North Hardin
RetiredCoach80 replied to charlesw88's topic in KY Football (High School)
My friend that lives over in Danville told me he heard today from a person within the program Reese Smith is out for the rest of the year and hopefully is ready by playoffs, If that’s true a big blow for Boyle. -
Boyle County 40 Collins 13
RetiredCoach80 replied to WestDanville's topic in KY Football (High School)
Talked to a friend of mine that watched Boyle last night and he told me there kicker had got a sprained ankle but he also told me someone told him Reese Smith broke his wrist last night which would be a big blow to Boyle. Anyone hear that? -
3A #1 Boyle County vs 4A Collins
RetiredCoach80 replied to charlesw88's topic in KY Football (High School)
Collins shouldn't be 0-4, Boyle can't overlook this team there not bad and I heard they are getting a couple players back this week. Collins doesn't run the spread nearly as much as years past they run more behind there huge offensive line. I may come to the game to watch the Battle upfront. Collins has 2 D1 lineman both committed Jacobs 6'6 315lbs and Diaz 6'8 345 upfront on offense. Collins will play them at guards and tackles during the game. They will have there hands full blocking Boyle upfront because of quickness and 73, but that will be big boy physical football upfront.. I'm going Boyle 35-13. I don't think it will be a running clock. -
Will a public school win 6A this year?
RetiredCoach80 replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Football (High School)
It’s going to be Trinity,Male,St X or Scott. Frederick Douglas may give Scott a game but is not good enough to have a shot at winning it all. -
Boyle County 48 Wayne County 7
RetiredCoach80 replied to WestDanville's topic in KY Football (High School)
I went over to watch this game being I’m close, and was ready to leave when I seen both teams come out for warm ups, at that point I knew it wasnt going to go well for Wayne. Boyle could have beat Wayne as bad as they wanted. Boyle is really good and most importantly really fast especially on defense, even the big guys. -
3A #1 Boyle County at 4A Wayne County
RetiredCoach80 replied to charlesw88's topic in KY Football (High School)
There is decent seating on the home side but Wayne is always completely full, some Wayne fans sit on the visiting side (which is very small)because there side will be full. You better take a bag chair with you if you plan on arriving much past 6:30 or you will be standing along the field. If you arrive at 7 you better have head phones you will be there, but not see the game. -
