Cooper at Ryle Predictions/Updates
NKYPrepSportsFan replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
Ryle 24 Cooper 15 -
Sure. I understand. I did see the Highlands DL moving around quite a bit pre-snap. They were trying to be create some confusion but it just didn't work well enough. When the QB runs the "read" option properly like Crone did, it's like the offense has an extra player/threat to cover... SK will tough to stop all year long if they stay healthy. Did anyone beside #17 have a reception for SK? If Crone or Williams goes down with injury, SK will be a much different team. To that end, I was happy to see Highlands running some read option with Benke too. It certainly can be effective.

When a team like SK has a big, strong, experienced offensive line and a QB that runs the read option the way Crone does, a physically smaller team like Highlands will struggle to stop the run unless they put 8 in the box every play. Credit SK's coaches with being patient and just shoving it down Highlands throat in the 2nd half.

What parking?!?! Hahaha Walking 1/2 mile or so on a beautiful Friday night to see a good football game in that stadium doesn't bother me at all. -

Can someone just please press Fast Forward to Friday night at 7pm? -
You think it went something like this? Highlands AD - "Hey Coach Sphire, this is Highlands football calling. Yes, THE Highlands. Congratulations! We'd like to offer you the head football coaching job here." Coach Sphire - "Ok. Please tell me more. I'm at least initially interested." Highlands AD - "Great. Bob, I'm so glad to hear you're interested. First you must understand that we pay our coaches significantly less here in Kentucky than you're currently being paid in Georgia. Also, we're gonna ask you to teach or be a counselor or have some type of role in addition to just coaching football. And, you'll have 6 or 7 fewer paid assistant coaches. And our overall football budget is also significantly less than you're currently enjoying and working with at your massive Georgia high school football program." Coach Sphire - "I love the idea of coming to Highlands, but based on what I'm hearing, I'm not sure it's the right move for me at this time. I think Highlands would need to make a few improvements to the "offer" for me to really consider it." Highlands AD - "But, C'mon Bob. We're Highlands! We should be able to get anybody we want at anytime from anywhere regardless of what you personally believe to be negatives here in Cake Town vs. what you're enjoying there with your family."

Simon Kenton vs. Highlands Predictions/Updates
NKYPrepSportsFan replied to MaddenCurse44's topic in KY Football (High School)
Highlands will definitely need to tighten up and correct the blown pass coverages (4 or 5 glaring blown coverages vs SW) or else it could be a very long night for the highlands defense. Highlands will need to do better on special teams too. Negative field position has been a factor vs both Male and South Warren. And of course it goes without saying that the offense must find a QB, must eliminate dropped passes, and must find a way to effectively run the football. Even with Highlands correcting and improving those things, I still think SK wins. It’s going be a high scoring game. My guess is somewhere in the SK 41 - Highlands 28 range. -
Is Bryant helping mostly with Frosh or Varsity? If he’s helping mostly with Frosh that means there are only two coaches that are dads with sons on the varsity roster and only one that coaches the son’s position group. This certainly doesn’t sound like “Daddy Ball Reigns Supreme” to me. Also, no one responded to my earlier question ... Are we to assume that certain members of the Highlands community think these dads aren’t qualified to be HS position coaches?

Howell Rankings Countdown 2022

I guess we will find out early if Highlands is for real this year. They get to play #11 in week 1, #29 in week 4, and #22 in week 5. They also play a much improved and dangerous (especially offensively) 6A Simon Kenton team in week 2. -

Highlands at Male Scrimmage Updates
NKYPrepSportsFan replied to El Diablo's topic in KY Football (High School)
Male’s kicker was a factor. If I had to guess, I would say that Highlands’ average starting field position was their own 22 yard line. The kicker put the ball out of the end zone nearly every time. On the other hand, Males’ starting field position was probably around Highlands’ 42. Highlands’ starting PK is still recovering from an injury. So, Highlands pooched every kickoff except for one attempted onside kick, which ironically turned out to be Male’s worst starting field position (not counting punts or turnover on downs). The final score was 41-26. Male returned one KO for a TD and also had a very late pick 6 which turned out to be the final play of the game. Highlands’ defense made some very nice plays and had some good stops. Male’s RB will be a problem for most teams this year. Highlands’ young QB (Haas) looked pretty good for his first varsity scrimmage against a team like Male. He was poised, made good decisions, was mostly accurate, and stepped up in the pocket a few times like a mature QB. On Highlands’ first drive of the game, Haas looked good on a naked bootleg and delivered a very nice ball to an open receiver in the flats that unfortunately fell incomplete on the goal line … Birds settled for a FG to start. Highlands definitely has some speed on the outside … Two long TD passes (65+ yards)… one to Hinegardner (really nice throw by Haas to hit the speedy #10 in stride on what looked like a skinny post) and one to Noon. I think it was a good first scrimmage for both teams. Male probably could’ve controlled the game more on the ground with Swinney but obviously wanted to work on some things in the passing game in a live scrimmage setting. Good luck to both teams this year! -

Highlands - 2022 Schedule
NKYPrepSportsFan replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Football (High School)
7 "should win" games and 3 "tough" games all on the road at South Warren, Ryle, and CovCath. With that, I'm going to predict an 8-2 regular season for Highlands. But, I wouldn't be at all surprised with 9-1. -

Agree ... probably 20+ offensive rebounds for about 30 points! -
Covington Catholic’s defense is a problem for these other NKY teams. If anybody beats them, it will most likely be a very low scoring game.
