Independence Changes Its Name To 'Man's Town' For Titanic Battle Between 'Neers and Jackets

Records: Woodford County (9-0) | Simon Kenton (6-3)

BGP Ranking: Woodford County (#3 in 5A) | Simon Kenton (#9 in 6A)

Series History: Woodford County leads 3-2 all-time

Table Setter: The Yellow Jackets put their unbeaten season on the line against the Pioneers in what should be one of the most physical, grueling encounters of Week 11.

Trench warfare will be front and center with All-State candidates and future D1 linemen Tristan Cook (WC) and Aba Selm (SK) opening holes for Preston Stacy and Jayden Lawson. Lawson has been making up for lost time since missing a few games in the first half of the season. He's averaged nearly two hundred yards per game over the last four. He's just one of the stars that will grace the turf in Independence. There's the aforementioned Stacy, Cook, and Selm, as well as Chase Crone - who just went off against Ryle for 300+ yards and four touchdowns - D1 commit Aden Nelson, and highly regarded prospect Makhi Smith.

Simon Kenton is averaging 49 ppg with its full complement of talent in the line-up, while Wofo is throwing down a season average of 47.

Victory for the Jackets would lend a signature win to a resumé that's lacking one. A Simon Kenton win accelerates their roll into the postseason and avenges a 50-13 pasting at Woodford's hand last year. Wofo dominated the line of scrimmage that night, rushing for 487 yards at 11 per carry with Stacy rumbling for 174. The Pioneers have grown up a great deal since then, both figuratively and literally, and should be better suited to handle Woodford County's physicality.

If you live anywhere in NKY and love grown man football, this one will be well worth the trip and price of admission.

I agree with you on that. The downside for SK is they lost to three of the best teams they played.

Simon Kenton will be by far the best team Woodford County has played this year.

Gave one to Corbin, injuries killed them against Southwestern and Beechwood.

Gotcha. So they really should be undefeated, right? 🤨

They was beating Southwestern minus the starting running back and Crone went out with the lead. Beechwood would have been a different game. Is what it is. Pioneers need to beat WC and get ready for the playoffs.
