Ouch... but I would venture to say that St. X would be more than happy to put CAL on the schedule for every year.

To be fair, while CAL's turf color is better, it is a funky VERY hard style of turf that I have not seen anywhere else but CAL.

This... I learned more about Kentucky geography from seeing school names in the score sections of the paper than I did from any other source. I can remember seeing momentum build through the scores each week for some teams. This was before the KHSAA Scoreboard so you had to keep inventory as the season went along mentally. I can remember thinking to myself things like "Sheesh, Hoptown is really, really good.", "How is Leslie Co. scoring all those points?", and "Man, Fern Creek may have a shot this year to come out of Louisville."

The recent release of the Cats Pause, with its very limited write-ups, made me think about how thankful I am that I grew up when the Cats Pause reviews were written by local beat writers who knew the Regional teams and were paid to cover them full-time. This led me to think about a few other things from the past that I am thankful I was a part of, but may now be gone forever... Saturday Morning Film Trades - I can remember being a 21 year old new coach and feeling as though my head coach had handed me the most important assignment of my life when he sent me to places like the Cromwell Overpass, or the McDonalds in Munfordville, or the Senora Truck Stop with two VHS tapes and a roster and stern instructions not to hand that roster over if they gave me one that didn't have the starters marked. I met a lot of great coaches on those Saturday film trades, and for a young coach, I felt like I was really doing something. I think we lost a little something when we stopped doing that. We gained a lot of time and saved gas, but we lost a little too. When Coaches Could Speak like Coaches Free of Worry - I played at the very end of the times when my coaches spoke to you without having to muzzle themselves... I had coaches who were like big brothers, coaches who were like a dad, and I had a legendary Head Coach whom I was fortunate enough to play for, who was like the grandfather I never had - someone I never wanted to disappoint. Those men said hard things to me, used hard words, and were not shy about making sure that the whole world of our team knew that I was the problem. But those words and times changed me and made me a better man. We still have that to some degree, but it is somehow different these days. There was a Line - When I played, there was a line. You were at the back of that line as a Freshman, and you didn't question that. You began to claw your way forward as you grew older, and as a Senior, it was awesome to be at the front of the line. As a coach, when you came in, if you were in your 20s, you were at the back of the line. Coordinators were people to be followed and emulated. Head Coaches were almost mythical creatures. There was a pecking order, and the passage of time and the slow accents made you really appreciate each step. Two-a-Days - Just kidding, I hated these as a player and as a coach... ? I'd be curious to know what others remember that were fond parts of their football experiences that nowadays seem to be gone.

Honest question... are these guys any good? Newport was hardly a world beater last year.

One big question that only Parsley would be able to answer would be, was football even his favorite sport? I know he was also pretty invested in baseball and basketball at WE. A hard truth that I have learned in many years of being around HS athletes is that it is not uncommon that a kid loves a sport that they are just "OK" in, and are "meh" about a sport in which they are exceptional at. And this is regardless of the amount of success or lack thereof they experience. Not saying that this is the case for Parsley. But I can tell you it has been the case for more players that I have come across than would seem rational. I think Parsley could play at the next level. It would be an uphill climb though (as it is for 99% of people going to the next level), as he is big, but not exceptionally big, fast but not exceptionally fast. I would say his exceptionality lies in his ability to remain balanced when getting hit. He is incredibly difficult to tackle.

I thought this was supposed to be as loaded as Owensboro has been since 2020?

Dane was a great player. But in the last 30 years alone, Warren East has produced: Stephen Anthony - Indiana University TE Jeremy Britt - One of the best RBs in KYFB history, statistically and objectively Shenard Holton - U of L Strong Safety Eli Brown - US Army All-American, UK/WKU LB I think Dane can walk away and say he was one of the best to ever play for the Raiders. And that's a pretty special company to be in.

November 3, 1995. BGHS v. Union Co. @ BG. Absolutely the most bitter cold I have ever been a part of in football. Opening-round game where the then 10-0 Purples needed a pick-six to beat the four-seed Braves, winning by the slim margin of 35-27. It would be the only close game the Purples played in the playoffs in '95 as they steamrolled the next four rounds and captured the first State Championship in school history.

That "can's" and "can't" list is not correct. Public school employees are prohibited from contacting students digitally outside of District-approved platforms. Whoever included the "liking" and "retweeting" aspects of that list is likely operating under a misinterpretation of the regulations or a District-specific directive that I would say 99% of Districts will not enforce, and honestly, is probably an infringement on people's civil liberties.

Scrimmaging AND playing Highlands is an interesting schedule note. I understand that it's an excellent game for both schools both times, and in the grand scheme of 6A/4A, it doesn't cause issues for either, but it just looks strange to me. I don't recall seeing that before anywhere (scrimmaging and playing in the regular season).

Maybe they just wanted to see some of the best players who should be zoned to their school play...

What if you don't regard the other schools in your county as worthy of being considered as another school?

They have already added a Rafferty's Bowl 5K run/walk for the morning of the big game hosted at the school... for those of you who, for whatever reason, enjoy running when there is not a coach telling you you have to! ?

A team full of kids who can SQUAT a lot = Meh, may be a good team, may not be; A team full of kids who can BENCH a lot = Meh, may be a good team, may not be; A team full of kids who can POWER CLEAN a lot = You have a good team on your hands.

The Logan game is just a head-scratcher for both teams.

You'll never find a really good defense that can't run. There are always a few fundamentally sound, well-coached, hard-playing 4-6 teams each year here in KY with defenses that will light you up, but who, sadly, can't run.

If some of the rumors about this job are true, good luck to the new coach as you navigate between the ?’s. Sheesh.

2024-25 has been a rough year for Glasgow boys' sports. Football, Basketball, and Baseball have all been way down. Meanwhile, Glasgow's neighbor, Barren, has had excellent years in all three. Between the two schools in the three big sports, Barren has been 4-0 this year. In the hiring thread, much has been said about the significant difference in facility investment between the two schools. Is this a sign of a shift in attention to athletics between the two or just a bump on Glasgow's road? Boys' Basketball and Football landed the coach they wanted, and many from the outside viewed both as homeruns. Can Stockton and Arnett bring Glasgow roaring back to prominence? Lots of questions to be answered for this storied program.

How about we mic up the parents? Most football coaches are pretty big guys. Lots of comments are coming from the stands under the anonymity of afar and protection of coaches remaining professional in their reactions.

There was a lot of talk about Highlands OL's size last year, but it never translated against a small front from Cooper that got massacred the very next week. The great Highlands OLs I remember usually featured one true standout O-Lineman that would be headed somewhere big, and then maybe one other guy with decent size. The other three would look like kids that would start ILB at any other HS other than Highlands, who moved like skill guys and were vicious and strong.

BGHS, all turf.

The IMG National team has no room for kids who do not possess the necessary measurables, AND talent, AND a strong work ethic. It's what separates them from even the elite of HS football programs.

The 14th District is brutal... three top 25 teams (#6 South, #11 Greenwood, #17 BG)
