As always Mr. N well put. I don't think Coach Hammonds would trade Coach Jackson tho. :lol: My only point was that a team that was picked pre-season 6th in their region and end up playing on Saturday morning at Rupp somebody must be doing something right.

Well let's see, Hammonds wins the region and takes his team to the final four. Need I say more?

Justice is a nice player. SV's bigs played well in Richmond. I agree with an earlier post that this could be the best game of the 1st round.

Great hire by Cooper. Sully is a great guy that has an incredible passion for the game and love for the kids. I hope that he has much success at his new post. :thumb:

Very nice young lady. I was in the opposite dugout when she hit the record breaker. I stole a line from major leauge when she hit it. "That ball would not have been out of some parks. Really name one. Ughhh Yellowstone." :lol: This young lady will go far and not just on her ability. She has a great attitude and was very humble about her accomplishment.

Mason County has also started a middle school team. With their numbers a lot of the MS kids are going to end up playing both MS and JV. But I think that it will make for a bright future. The Lady Royals probably will take some lumps this year but they will continue to improve every time out.

Partly true. Basketball historians have told me that story and it involved Jock Sutherland when he was coaching Lafayette. I tend to put more fact than fiction into that one. Got my own story for you, My first year coaching MS girls, I never even stood up from my chair and said to my post player "Gosh dang it Susie are you going to guard anybody?" The official looked at me and said that's enough coach and T'd me up. When I asked why he said you're not going to curse. When I asked what I had said his reply was "One more word coach and you are gone". This happened in the first half and at halftime he comes over and says "you can't talk that way". I said what way and repeated what I said. He says that is not what he heard. My reply was "Well maybe you need t o have your hearing checked too" and walked to the locker room. I will swear on a stack of bibles to this day that is EXACTLY what I said.

Not only did the sports world lose a great friend, but so have I. He was the type of person that you could not talk to for just a second. He was the type of person that you never wanted to end a conversation with because you enjoyed it so much. "Punk" was a walking history book. Not only about sports but the Maysville area. There are a million stories that could be told, but one of my favorites is that several members of the media were attending a Reds event and they could not find Punk when they were ready to leave. Come to find out Punk was on the Reds team bus talking to Marty and Joe. Just about everytime Punk went to a Reds game he ended up in the booth with them. I will really miss him. I made it a point to interview him at every state tournament. (16 years straight) Last year we kept the tradition alive and I am really glad I was able to do that one last time. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Shawn is one of the classiest people I have ever come across in sports. He was always more than friendly to me during his time here at Mason County. Just a first class guy both on the field and off. I can not say enough nice things about him. Somebody is going to get one heck of a football coach and an even better person.

I am already in that position part time. I am taking a new full time job outside of the radio business. Thank you for you kindness.

Thank you all for your kind words and more importantly putting up with me for the past 17 years. It was a very difficult decision for me to step away. It has been one great ride for me. The relationships that I have made with coaches, players, support staff and fans will stay with me the rest of my life. Not to mention my fellow members of the media that have been great friends. People like Danny Weddle, Dickie Martin & Dan Manley. I will still be around just not behind the mic.

Oh I agree. But like you I saw too many plays in between the upsides that he decided to take off and not play hard.

Not quite sure why you quoted me on this one. All I was saying was that Mason did not get 4 timeouts as some of the Russell faithful were thinking.

Yes he did and by the way.... Russell still won with the mistake. Thought I might let you know that. Geeeez. Now talking about more important things. Russell showed why they are Russell tonight. They are one of the most fundamentally sound football teams year in and year out that I have ever seen. That coaching staff could have made me a good football player. :lol: They are just that good. The old saying is that "Tradition Never Graduates" is never truer in any program than in the Russell football program. As an outsider I am truly envious of what the folks in Flatwoods have accomplished. And you can tell those accomplishments have been done the old fashioned way. Good ole hard work. Good luck Red Devils. Make our district proud.

No they did not get four time outs. The time out that was taken when Mason had a devensive player coming back in was actually taken by Russell. The official accidentally pointed the wrong way. Russell took that time out because they were close to getting a delay of game.

I am pretty sure that this was in the works before the season started. I had heard a rumor that this was going to be it for Billy. He is a fine man and a great motivator.
