  1. Justin Haddix - Boyle County Lost over 75% of his offensive production and had to replace several starters on O and D. Lost Jeff Hester as his DC and had to bring in several other coaches to help out this season. Other than a 1 TD loss to a very good LCA team he has the Rebels rolling as usual. I even heard that there were teams that opted not to play the Rebels this year which speaks volumes to what he has been able to do with a great program in just two seasons.
  2. My guess is going to be that you will see a difference in the Boyle defense this week. I wouldn't be surprised if they are more physical and swarm to the ball like the defenses of old. I believe that the staff has worked hard to make those things happen. With that said, the coaches can't play for them, so it will still be up to the players to respond. If Boyle has fixed the areas they needed to work on, then I will take them 35-14. If we see the same Boyle team from last week, then I will take Boyle 35-28 in a flip score from last week. Holes or not I don't think Pulaski has the running attack that LCA had so I think Boyle will get a couple of stops compared to last week. I won't be surprised if Pulaski has changed from being more pass-heavy to ground and pound this week. Either way, this should be a great HS football game.
  3. I understand entirely what you are saying about Boyles defense not being very good. I really do. I just don't understand the assumption that they will get beat based on losing to a team by one score, and the team happens to be really good. If you said Lex Cath would have a bunch of yards, that would make sense based on Boyle's performance, but to assume they will get beat is just reckless. LCA had 465 yards rushing and had to get a first down with time running out to seal the victory. It's not like they walked into Rebel Stadium and drilled BC, so I wouldn't count a victory based on a poor defensive performance that resulted in a 7 point loss.
  4. So, I hate to ask this again. But boyle lost by one score to the number one team in 2A and all of a sudden they cant win their district? Boyle is a 3A school playing in 4A so truly there is one class between LCA and Boyle and they got beat by a TD so they are automatically out? You don't think there is a chance that LCA is better than Catholic?
  5. So, Boyle has no chance against a team in Lexington Catholic who throws the ball 75% of the time because they lost by one TD to a team that only threw it 3 times an entire game? They gave up 460 yards rushing and catholic hasn't had a serious rushing attack in 20 years minus a dual threat QB here and there. Don't get me wrong the Boyle defense was lacking Saturday night but to say BC has no chance is just absurd.
  6. Going to throw this out there cause it seems to happen a lot. Anytime someone says "but," it usually means that a statement is coming that contradicts what they just said. In this article, McCombs says that Peach is the head coach and can run things his way, "BUT" I was a DC and know football. To me, this shows that the breakdown was on defense and that McCombs may have wanted to be the primary defense signal-caller and run the style he wanted to run. As the head coach, Peach should have the final say in that, and maybe McCombs didn't like that.
  7. Listening should go both ways in coaching, and listening is something different than being controlled. I know nothing about the Danville situation, nor do I know anything about coach Peach, but if he is over-controlling his staff, that may be why he is just a good coach and not a great coach. I can tell you from personal experience that I have been around both a good and a great. The difference was one was willing to give the guys he hired a voice and allowed them to coach. You hire people for a reason, but if you are going to control how and what they do, then you really just wanted to hire another coach just like yourself. I say all of that to say that it can't just be that the kids and coaches shut up and listen to Peach because if they do, I promise it will never work out for any of them at Danville. I am not saying what you said is wrong, and this was not written to argue, just a statement for a talking point. Also, I want to say again I know nothing about Danville and what has happened, nor do I know anything about coach Peach.
  8. I would say going by it being a senior award he was a senior last year so no need to take it away. I would also say going by that he is also a senior this year and eligible to repeat the award. There will be a lot of questions that need to be answered about awards all across the state with football but I have a sneaky suspicion that we will be left without answers for most of them.
  9. So, I talked to some athletic directors, and their understanding is that this rule goes k-12 but that the KHSAA eligibility only applies to 9-12. Can anyone confirm this? For example, I was told if an 8th grader decided to repeat their 8th-grade season, they would not be eligible to play any sports due to current rules. I have no clue if that is true, but I wondered if anyone on here may know.
  10. @ChiefSmoke Did you ever try to get Darius Miller to play? I always thought it was amazing that Mason Co. had two stud basketball players in that short of a time period. I played for the 03 Boyle team and we came really close to getting to see Chris play up close and in person which would have been a blast.
  11. Coach Hester is one of the best men and coaches I have ever enjoyed playing for and coaching beside. He has taught me a tremendous amount about football but even more about life. I hate seeing him leave, but I am also happy for him and hope he enjoys his retirement. Coach Hester has been a great mentor to many, and I enjoyed calling him my coach and friend. He truly is a hero of mine and a legend in Kentucky high school football.
  12. 2003 Boyle Vs Highlands 44-10 final Boyle wins. I don't think that the overall performance was the most dominating, but the turnaround on this game was for sure dominating. These two teams played earlier in the season, and it was a Boyle 22-21 victory and one of the craziest hard-fought games I have ever seen. Fast forward to the state game, and Boyle absolutely dominated them from start to finish. After that game coach, Mueller made the comment that playing Boyle on that night was like playing like eleven marines. He said that every tackle sounded like a machine gun with 11 guys hitting the runners. High praises from one of Kentucky's best head coaches.
  13. Boyle Middle Football is looking for a team or teams to come play in out bowl game on 8/14/2021. Currently have one odd man out meaning that they need at least one more team to play but can accommodate more. If you are interested please private message me on here and I can get you the details. The following teams committed to playing: Boyle, Ashland, Mercer, Marion, Lexington Catholic, Harlan, Danville so again shoot me a private message on here if interested.
  14. Where to start on this? First, nobody on here was walking about picking Boyle due to superior players, as every comment I have seen has been about the fact that Boyle is experienced in this game. This is the 11th appearance in 21 years, so I believe that is where everyone is getting their opinion. I love that you bring up Coach Hester as I had a lengthy conversation with him yesterday (no Indication he is retiring, but that's not the point). He and I spoke about the former days when we came into these games as the underdog and how nice it was for teams to underestimate us. So now I know where I am going with this. I want to say thank you because you have given me that feeling once again, and there is nothing like it, nothing like being underestimated. Good Luck to Both teams this should be an amazing game as both are exceptional.
  15. Yes that was my impression. There are potentially more people thus more possible infections on an active base than West Point.
  16. What doesn't make any sense to me at all is that West Point the Army football program has been practicing in full gear for about a week. Not sure why the DOD would cancel sports for a HS program and allow it to continue at the college level. (I agree that the decision for Knox and Campbell came from DOD just saying that it does not make much sense)
  17. Thanks for the reply, and I care about your opinion and everyone else. That is what makes this country so great and something we have gotten too far from, which is that we can debate and still be good when the debate is over. I understand your point that there was a period when it was used to represent something that you and I and many others do not agree with. That is why I care about your opinion and respect it because I do not like that my team/school would be associated with anything relating to being proud of the confederacy. Anyway, I know you think you have upset many with your beliefs, so I will leave you with this. We have always had a saying "once a rebel, always a rebel," but I am going to change it for all my fellow Boyle football alum "once a brother always a brother." Regardless of class, age, race, sex, and any I forgot, if you put on a Boyle County football jersey, we will always be brothers because that right was earned through blood sweat and tears.
  18. The main point that I was making is that there is plenty of so called evidence out there that the intent had nothing to do with confederacy. So my question is why isn't the original intent taken into consideration? I am not advocating either way as I will support Boyle football and sports no matter the decision and I would never in my life want anything like our mascot to cause someone else pain and suffering. So let me ask this in a different way if there was concrete evidence that the name had nothing to do with the confederacy would that matter in any decision for it to be changed? and I am not saying your opinion BEChargers I am just saying in general would it be an issue if there was proof? I want to reiterate that I am asking this question to continue the conversation and I am again in no way advocating in either direction for the name to stay or go.
  19. I only know this story because of where it originated. Most people familiar with the Boyle county program know the first football program started with the majority of kids from Perryville. I can say that when this team traveled to their first game as Boyle county, it is 100% correct that they did not, in fact, have a mascot. When the team captain was asked who they were, he responded with "ah were just a bunch of rebels'' and the name stuck moving forward. I have spoken to this man before and heard him tell that story many times, including the fact that he meant rebel as in rebellious youth like James Dean. So the name did not start with anything to do with the confederate army. During times throughout history, people lose sight of why things were started, and I would say that this is what happened in the 80's period mentioned above. I believe that the sins of our fathers shouldn't be the sins of our sons. So I think that given the original intent, the name should stay and have a reworking of anything that resembles a soldier or any confederates. Every person here has been the type of rebel this football program represents, and I hope never the kind that some of those in our past thought it represented. We need to continue to move forward but not at the cost of losing sight of something that began innocently and was corrupted by a bad few. Boyle was rebellious in 1999 when a small county school shocked the KHSAA and have continued to do so ever since. I think that is what being a Rebel represents as we were "never" meant to be in that game by the traditional sense of things. Anyway, you have not made this community member mad as everyone is entitled to their opinions, and we can always agree to disagree and still be friends.
  20. I currently coach at Boyle and when I applied I was told by the administration that the same Job I applied for must be posted for 30 days even though I was the only candidate. Any job that has tax funds spent on it, therefore, any school job teaching or not must be posted for at least 30 days according to what I was told. I could be wrong and I am ok with that as I stated that is just what I was told when I was hired.
  21. If this job is like any other school job then it has to be posted for at least 30 days before the official hiring process can take place. It was posted on December 17th and if my math is right that means it will close Jan 16th. I don't think there will be any info available until at least that date.
  22. I personally believe that if it isn’t Brandon then Travis is the logical choice. Boyle county has a system that few can repeat and will take someone who knows the way to keep it going. I think that Travis has coached under chuck for two years now and seen how he runs the program. Travis first stint as head coach was going based on what he knew as a player of Chuck so I believe this time you would see a different approach. I just think that the program needs a coach that will continue to lead and run it the way it has been under Chuck. Change happens and sometimes it’s for the better but I like the if it ain’t broke don’t fix it way better.
  23. I will attempt to tackle this one, but I am not the original poster, so simply my opinion on the matter. 1. Do not have to compete with several schools that have winning traditions for players from that area. (Bowling green, other warren co school) Also, not only compete for those players but play against them in a district game. 2. The SW tradition is new, not saying there is anything wrong with it, but Boyle winning ways have deeper roots. 3. Boyle is in an upgrade status when it comes to the facilities over the next couple of years, allowing the next coach some say in what gets done. 4. The fan base rivals that of any school (almost every state title game played in set records for attendance for that class it maybe every year but I don't know 2019 numbers) 5. Brandon specific it's home, and according to Dabo Swinny, when momma calls you to come home, then you go home. With all that said, I have to be honest I don't know much about SW, so I cant genuinely say that any of this is better SW for sure.
  24. While I agree with everything, you say here, and I think there needs to be an award for being the state's best lineman. However, as an offensive line coach, I have to say that most of if not all of those guys don't do what they do for awards. That doesn't change the fact that they need to be recognized I just wanted to point out how selfless that position is. It is because of this selflessness that you see teams with good OL/DL play making it to December.
  25. My screen said 40-1 so I wrote 40-2 but it showed 40-2 in the quote stupid computers but with that said, I still stand by his career has been an amazing ride to watch.
