Great post. The only question I have, and it's not just a HC issue, but when did so many players parents start coaching high school football? When I played we had no parents coaching at the varsity level. To me that creates a conflict of interest. I get the head coach may have a kid come through, but assistants coaching because they have kids playing is an issue.

They don't all play against 6a schools each week I guess. For example, 2a Newport Catholic took it to 6a Cooper. 5a highlands beat 6a Campbell county and 5a Cov Cath beat 6a Ryle. That is just 3 examples so far after 2 weeks.

The enrollment at Alcoa is 580, Corbin is over 800. Corbin is also in the top 10 in KY though.

This is a great post. Character is sticking through tough times to see better times. It's easy too quit when things look bleak, but the tough ones work through the tough times.

SK will put a running clock on them, I am sure. This is a weak Conner team. Not sure why, but they are down. Small for a 6a team. Might just be a sign of the times.

Should they be lower?

Not sure how many games Shearer played on JV last year but he did against Beechwood when I watched. As for Jake Smith, he is a good athlete, but not sure QB is his position. If I was a coach at Ryle, knowing they need some help, I wouldn't be shy to move him to another position to help.

He was the first game but really struggled. I don't think he played Friday. Not sure if he is #9 for JV but maybe. I know Shearer for Simon Kenton played JV last year and some varsity.

I think he is basing it on returning a ton from last year and handling Connor in the scrimmage. I think it will be more competitive though. Lloyd has some good skill guys and some speed. Beechwood may get off a little slow due to being first game and only having one scrimmage

Well he must have went back to Hazard. He started as a freshman and sophomore At Hazard before starting at Ryle his junior year. His stats at Hazard can be found on the KHSAA website.

I kept telling people That and everyone kept saying it was Chisholm. I knew I wasn't crazy.

Ryle has a lot of issues to work out. The QB plays is #1. All they could complete were screens. Bisdek was hurt early and the line play for Ryle was not good either. Cov Cath line is also very green and they struggle to run the ball. A team with good DB's and a good d-line will give cov cath problems. Ryle had neither. I think Cov Cath will have a great season if they stay healthy and I think Ryle will struggle all year. On a positive for Ryle, they didn't quit and they have two pretty good RB's

The 2 qb's for Connor seemed pretty even. Beechwood DB's are very experienced so it was tough to throw on them and Connor also seemed to struggle running the ball. Beechwood pretty much controlled this one but both teams have a lot to work on.

In my opinion the main reason Beechwood repeats, is that they basically have the same line. hazard lost a lot up front, if I remember right. Beechwood started 3 sophomores at center, guard, tackle and had a junior at left guard. I also feel this year is as deep as beechwood has been in a long time. The only area they may be thin is backups on the interior o-line. So if they stay somewhat healthy, they will be tough to beat.

The offer from Xavier is huge in my opinion. Chris Mack is a great talent evaluator. he is also young for his grade so I am sure they see that his upside is pretty high.

Not saying he should be included, but Burch did have a great junior year. 2,400 yds passing, 64% completion, 26 Tds and 6 int's. In many games he played about half the game. He should have a great senior year.

No not at all. Just pointing out, as you did, Beechwood would go to the playoffs with or without tuition kids. The district is awful, Beechwoods JV would win it most years. But I am all for tuition kids. As for last year Castleman was a slot and strong safety, good player. The running backs were Justice and Davis, both live in fort Mitchell.

I am all for tuition kids, but lucky to make playoffs? Yikes. They still would have went undefeated in district and I believe last year they only had 3 starters on offense and 4 defense who lived out of fort Mitchell. But it really doesn't matter.

Based on what I heard, Beechwood looked really good and handled both Cooper and Campbell. Heard Logan Castleman had 5 or 6 touchdowns.

I know for Derry, Louisville and Miami OH stopped in but not sure of the interest level. I do know that Adam Derry is around 6'2 260 right now going into his jr season and will be a handful to block. He has a bright future.

Lol. He just started growing when he hit high school. Should be a fun year in 2017.
