Has Coach Gomes applied at other jobs in the western part of the state such as Ohio County and Paducah Tilghman? I also wouldn't be surprised if the former coach at Ohio County goes for the Greenwood job. Also on a hilarious side note, is Mark Starns or Maze Stallworth in the running at Greenwood like everywhere else in the state?

One solution to the Henderson County dilemma would be like what happened when schools like Jessamine County and Laurel County got too big. They split into two different schools. Can you see West Henderson and East Henderson in the future?

I stand corrected. I just remember that story when Wells left Hoptown to go to Webster County. Maybe Wells can come back. Webster County has been one of the top girls basketball jobs in Westen Kentucky for a long time. Now if that can applied to other sports at Webster County, particularly football.

I believe the coach was an alumnus of Webster County. She also coached at Hopkinsville before she became the coach at Webster County. In fact, she would drive from Webster County to Hopkinsville every day when she coached at Hopkinsville.

If half of what Mike Harper is doing is true, he should not only lose his job, but he should also face criminal charges as well for endangering a minor. The video shown on WBKO on this story showed a game between Bowling Green and Muhlenberg Co. where Sampson is diving for the ball on the end line and hits her head hard on the floor. Instead of sitting her out and making sure she did not have a concussion, Harper sent Sampson back out onto the floor. I also read about this story in yesterday's edition of the Kentucky New Era and gives more details of what was going on. For example, Harper tried to prevent his players from talking to their parents about what was going on in practices and games. Also it was noted that Harper would mock the parents of his players that were sitting in the bleachers during games. I believe Muhlenberg County needs to find a new girls basketball coach ASAP.

The only state that I know of that does its state tournament the same week for boys and girls is Missouri. However, they also have classes for basketball just like football. It would have to change from a Sweet Sixteen setup to a Final Four setup, whether it is played in Lexington or Louisville and whether it goes to classes or not. The idea of splitting the state into two separate sections for the opening round of the state tournament or playing four sectional tournament involving the four regional winners in each section. For example, regions 1-4 could have their tournament at site like WKU, Murray, Hopkinsville, etc. The sectional semifinals for both boys and girls can be on Friday and the sectional finals can be on Saturday. The state final four for both boys and girls will be on the following Friday in Lexington or Louisville with a state final doubleheader on Saturday night. This will save on travel expenses, as well as reduce days of school to be missed.

According to the West Kentucky Star, Coach Jackson is staying at McCracken County.

Has this hire been made official? I did not see any news about this in the BG Daily News web page. This hire of BGMS' head coach by one of the Purples' main rivals ought to make the game this fall between the Purples and the Dragons to be a very spicy event to witness.

The people in Todd County are being patient as the powers to be are searching for the next Rebel football coach. As a graduate of Todd Central, the football program has gone through more than its share of struggles, but has also had some great years, particularly in the early 70's and most of the 1980's. It is a well known fact that Todd County is very rural. But also, it is within an hour's drive of many large cities and towns such as Hopkinsville, Bowling Green, Clarksville, TN, and Nashville to attract many candidates for this job. Let us not forget that Coach Jones came from Florida to Todd Central for his first coaching job. This job has the potential to attract many coaches from Tennessee who has the desire to double dip into their retirement since Todd County is so close to Tennessee. This job has potential, but also many challenges in who Todd Central play on a yearly basis. Among the teams that are usually on the Rebels' schedule include Russellville, Owensboro Catholic, and Trigg County, among others.

According to the Kentucky New Era and the Cadiz Record, Corey Coble has been hired as the new girls basketball coach at Trigg County.

Coach Jones will be greatly missed by the Rebel family. He came to Todd Central in the midst of a long losing streak and brought Todd Central to a respectable place on the gridiron. According to the Kentucky New Era, Coach Jones is going to Grayson County, where his wife is from for a job opportunity. Coach Jones wore many hats at Todd Central. He was not only the football coach, but also started a wrestling team at Todd Central, was a very successful coach of the track program, and even started a powerlifting team at Todd Central. Last year, the Todd Central girls powerlifting team won a state title, which is only the second time that has happened at Todd Central. The only other team that did that was the girls track team. Todd Central has had its struggles in football, often in the shadows of other successful teams such as Owensboro Catholic, Russellville, Ft. Campbell, and others. We wish Coach Jones well and that the Rebels can find a leader who will bring greater success to Todd Central.

Three classes is a great idea. Only the district winners and runner up would go to the playoffs and all the state championship games can be played on a Saturday. For a long time, Tennessee had only three classes in football and it worked out well. Tennessee also did have post-season bowl games for teams not making the playoffs. These bowl games can be played on the first weekend of the playoffs.

Wow! Looking at the small class Southwest district, I did not know that there were two schools named Owensboro Catholic, Todd County Central, and McClean County. Looks like a great number of O-Cath Aces, Todd Central Rebels, and McClean Cougars being cloned. Here is a more equatable proposal for all the Western Kentucky small schools: Southwest District: Mayfield, Murray, Ballard Memorial, Fulton City, Fulton County, Crittenden County, Webster County, Todd Central, Russellville West Central District- Butler County, Owensboro Catholic, Hancock County, McClean County, Glasgow, Clinton County, Metcalfe County, Monroe County, Green County.

How about the former girls coach at Christian County?

A good idea would be to change the Sweet 16 to the Elite 8 with quarterfinal games on Thursday, semifinal games on Friday, and the final on Saturday night. There could be sectional games between the winners of two regions for the honor of going to the state tournament. For example, the 3rd and 4th region winners would meet in a sectional game with the winner going to the state tournament. The sectional game would rotate between the largest gym in each region from one year to the next. In the example provided, the sectional game would be at the Owensboro Sportscenter one year and at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green in the next year.

I would say that it is time that the tournament would rotate between Louisville and Lexington since the KFC Yums Center just opened. It is just as nice a facility as Rupp and is in a good downtown location. There are just as many hotel rooms in Louisville as there is in Lexington and would be more centrally located, especially to the western part of the state.

What is missing in this whole discussion about playing the state finals on Sunday is that there is the possibility of a non-Catholic church school getting hot at tournament time and making it to the state championship. They will have a decision to make to either go against their religious convictions and play or follow their convictions and forfeit the state championship. This happened in Texas a few years ago where a school operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church made it to the state championship game. However, the game was on a Saturday and that is considered the main day of worship for the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The people in charge of the tournament were not willing to make accommodation for the church school to change the date of the game. As a result, the Seventh Day Adventist Church school made the decision to forfeit the state championship game. Can you imagine the outcry if there was a forfeit in the Sweet 16 final due to religious reasons. Also, if I am not mistaken, BYU does not play any games on Sundays due to religious reasons.

To note one of the earlier posts on this thread, how did Butler County get the money to have an indoor practice facility when other well-known football powers in the area such as Bowling Green, Russellville, Franklin-Simpson, Owensboro, and South Warren does not have such a facility? Also, is the indoor facility in Mayfield used by both Mayfield and Graves County?

I guess now that the Craft kid needs to focus on getting a chance to play at a better school such as Murray or WKU, even as a walk-on, or get a scholarship at a lower level school such as Campbellsville or Kentucky Wesleyan. If he is good as advertised, Western or Murray will find a way for him to be on scholarship.
