Open Job: Webster County

Featured Replies

I just heard today that Webster County is now open. Their coach resigned last week. This is one of the best jobs in the 2nd region. They return every player except from last year's team that lost by 1 point in the region championship. A lot of people think that they are the team to beat next season.

Wonder why the coach left?

I heard that it was to take a job outside of education.

I believe the coach was an alumnus of Webster County. She also coached at Hopkinsville before she became the coach at Webster County. In fact, she would drive from Webster County to Hopkinsville every day when she coached at Hopkinsville.

You're thinking about Tonya Wells. The coach that just left is Parker McCalister. Wells only coached Webster County for 1 year that was in between McCalister's tenures. McCalister was very successful with the program. I think they made the region every year and made the last 2 region final games.

Why did he leave?

I stand corrected. I just remember that story when Wells left Hoptown to go to Webster County. Maybe Wells can come back. Webster County has been one of the top girls basketball jobs in Westen Kentucky for a long time. Now if that can applied to other sports at Webster County, particularly football.

Wells wasn't a good fit at Webster County. They had one of their worst seasons in recent years and I think everyone saw after 1 season it wasn't a good fit and they should part ways. I still think she is a good coach based on her success elsewhere, she just wasn't a good fit there.

Webster county would not be one of the best jobs in the region for simple fact you have to play Henderson three times a year which maybe ok one year but not year after year. They have every player coming back which is great for a small school and Henderson just reloads and having a great summer in Indiana. Parker did a great job but if i had to guess it was parents again that are just to much down their which is one of the reason he got out the first time. He is too good of a guy to say any of that but it's true.

One solution to the Henderson County dilemma would be like what happened when schools like Jessamine County and Laurel County got too big. They split into two different schools. Can you see West Henderson and East Henderson in the future?

Parents are a problem everywhere it seems.

I don't think that will ever happen. Hendo has been this big for a long time and they haven't had considerable population growth in a very long time. It's not broke so Henderson County Schools won't try to fix it.

100 percent right. But little harder when it's parents who work in the school system.

Webster County is 2A in football while Henderson County is 6A. The answer is obvious but no one, I say no one wants to change basketball format. It is time but not holding my breath.
