  1. I was able to watch both teams this past weekend and I give a big advantage to Cooper. Newcath is much better than they were a year ago but Cooper was doing a nice job on defense until Highlands started to wear them down by running so many offensive plays in such a short amount of time. Cooper was tire and it showed in final 3 qtrs. Newcath does not run the same style of offense, that Highlands runs. The pace of the game will be slowed down and Coopers size will wear down the Breds. I'm not real sure what Newcath has as far as pass defense. Scott only threw a passes and connected on a big one in the second half, but I think it came against the second team. I think Newcath is much better than they were a year ago, but I think Cooper has way too many weapons. #39 is stud for Cooper so taking Hendrix out of the mix, sounds like a good plan but #39 holds his own. If Jackson is healthy for Cooper, it might be a long night for the Breds. I'm saying Cooper 42, Newcath 21.
  2. 7-South Oldham 5-West Jessamine 3-Bryan Station 2-Glasgow 1-North Bullitt TB South Oldham
  3. 7 Holy Cross Covington 5 Newport Catholic 3 Ryle 2 Lloyd Memorial 1 Highlands TB Holy Cross
  4. Congrats on the D1 offer, but I'm willing to bet that he continues receive more D1 offers as the year goes on. He is a great player without a doubt but even a better young man off the field from what I have been told. Good News for Jags. Once you get one with offers, your program with continue to get a look from others seeking fine players in the future.
  5. NewCath needs to find a new offensive coordinator to have any success. They should have won two or three more games last year if not for the play calling. They had Mayfield on the ropes early in the title game, and absolutely stupid play calling let them off the hook. They have quality kids to fill the voids left by graduation. They have one the best QBs in the area, based on potential, but he has to run to the sideline for every play. Kills his rhythm and slows the game down, which plays into the favor of the bigger schools that they play early. NewCath needs to make a change in order to move forward. Holy Cross and Lloyd are going to be tough enough this year so this might be a down year for the breds. I hope that I'm wrong but good teams in the area, mixed with bad play calling, equals a down year.
  6. For all of the pregame talk about these two teams not liking each other and not shaking hands the last time they played, this game was the complete opposite. Two teams that played hard while maintaining great sportsmanship. That reflects the character of both schools and their coaches. There were some other schools in this tournament that could learn a few things from these two teams. Respect is earned and these two teams did just that last night. Congrats to Coach Dawn and Coach Ruthsatz for controlling their kids. Two solid coaches and two fine schools. This game came down to Hall. Weyer was going to get his and the Breds needed another player to step up. Hall answered the bell and played beyond his years. Weyer is Weyer. The player of the year always seems to shine in this game every year and he did not disappoint. I think we got a very good look at next year's player of the year in Von Handorf. He is a special player. Von Handorf and Sean McNeil will be two that I'm really excited to watch next year.
  7. I'm a NKY guy that watches more than his fair of football each year. I would love to say that the officials cost NKY a state title but that's not true. Mayfield played a solid game and made adjustments and NewCath didn't. The punt return call was blown. We all agree on that, even the Mayfield folks will agree I think after seeing the debate on BGP. But to take anything away from their championship is a joke. They made adjustments and NewCath didn't. They knew that they couldn't run the ball on NewCath so they threw Quick passes. They spied Smith and let the others beat them. They say back and laughed at NewCath's play calling. They took what was given to them and ran with it. The punt call was unfortunate for NewCath but it wasn't Mayfield's fault it happen. I love NKY football but to sit back and watch this thread is sickening. NewCath had the chance to take ahold of this game and thier OC ran the Wildacat on 3 and 8. He chose to run the Jet sweep on 4 and 1 from midfield. He chose to run pass plays with routes that take too long to run. He continued to run Smith when Mayfield was spying him all game long. Enough. Mayfield made adjustments and NewCath didn't. Let them enjoy the victory and hope like hell, your head coach takes the play calling away from your OC. Refs didn't cost you the game, get over it, learn from it and make changes needed. Can I get an amen???
  8. The call was wrong and that is the bottom line. With that being said, it still didn't change the outcome of the game. Mayfield was playing great defense and NCC was playing with an OC that is down right terrible. He cost them the game not the referees. You can't win when your're playing a tough team like Mayfield and you have a guy calling plays that couldn't win a pee wee football game if his life depended on it. Mayfield shouldn't have to hear about this call and have it take away from a solid championship.
  9. NKYSPORTS.COM will be webcasting CovCath @ Highlands Northern Kentucky High School Sports | Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer
  10. First, congrats to BW. Well played game with exception to a few TO's. Great game plan executed by great players. State finals are within reach for sure Secondly, IMO, NewCath will not get past Lloyd unless they cut out stupid penalties and find someone else to call the plays. You have Anderson who is 6'3 being covered man to man by a young man who is listed as 5'6 and not once did they test that match up. The QB still runs to the sidelines for every play call. He must run 10 miles a game to the side and back. This team is not playing NewCath football and it's a down right shame. NewCath coaching is their worst enemy. Bottom line. BW was much better than NewCath tonight and they don't make it back to State. Enough said.
  11. Steve Fromeyer is the best in NKY with Brandon Stevie coming in right behind him. Both do a great job with the kids and the coaches. NKY is lucky to have these guys.
  12. They will be fine. Coach Barth took an NCC like approach and increased his level of competition outside of his district. They are going to take their lumps but they will be fine come playoff time. By no way do they have the strength of schedule as say an NCC team but they aren't playing an easy schedule. They lost a ton of talent to graduation and it takes time to develop talent. Coach Barth is one of the best coaches in NKY and his team will be ready to play come districts.
  13. Maleek Lawrence is the best D line player in NKY. Hands down.
  14. Sounds like Dave is calling his normal game on offense. The Breds don't have a chance with this offense. Only coach to go back the pro set I. No Shotgun.
  15. NewCath is one team that knows how to travel. Coach Wagner will have this team prepared to play. I think NewCath will set the tone early and take out the SV crowd. NewCath also brings a large fan base with them so this is nothing new for the Breds. SV has yet to see a team with this much speed at the point of attack. I look for #72 Lawerence to have another big game for the Breds. This young man is one of the most underated players in the state. Their QB took a big step forward last week as well. Breds by 14 in this one.
  16. Check out the webcast if you can't make it down to the game. I have seen a few of their past broadcast and they do a really good job. Both teams deserve to have the coverage after successful seasons.
  17. DeSales and NewCath will rematch in Bowling Green with most likely the same result as last year. DeSales has too many weapons to fall to anyone left in the field. I would love to see NewCath take the crown but I think this team is a year away.
  18. This game is also on turf so speed will be a factor for SV. NewCath is very fast when playing on turf so I don't think SV can simulate this in practice. NewCath struggles with teams that throw the football so the SV wing T should play into NewCath's strength on defense. I would not bet against this NewCath team. They are 9-0 is semi-final games for a reason.
  19. NewCath has been in this situation before and travel will not be a factor. If they play turnover free football and limit "stupid" penalties, they will by two touchdowns. Teams that runs the ball the way SV does, plays to NewCaths stength. Passing teams destroy NewCath so being able to key on the run should play right into their strength. SV will not back down from what I have seen on film. This should be worth the price of admission. NewCath 9-0 in this round of the playoffs and should move to 10-0 and playing once again in BG. I admit that I didn't think this team had it in them earlier on and was a year away from going back to BG and I was wrong. This team can and will compete in BG for state title.
  20. Does anyone know how the field conditions are? The turf there is beat up to say the least and I fear the field conditions become a major factor tonight. Hard to run routes if your feet come out from under you during your cuts.
  21. Newport would need to stop the NewCath rushing attack and make them throw the football. NewCath has struggled to protect their QB and he tends to hold onto the football way too long in the pocket. Vert simple game plan. Pressure the NewCath QB and stop the run. Easier said than done however. I think it still comes down to turnovers and stupid penalties
