They just beat a good Prestonsburg team. I know nothing about them. What kind of O and D do they run?

Interesting. Comparing scores w Paris and LCA having played teams up here, they must have improved drastically over the course of the season.

I've picked against them each week and they have proved me wrong every time. The team has no quit to them and play with a lot of heart.

That is good and all but if they can't throw the ball then they will have issues. NewCath's skill players, I will assume, will be smaller and faster than they are used to.

I can't speak for their style of play but I would assume they will be outmatched in this one.

Shelby Valley is a solid team that plays very hard the entire game. They are made up of a few seniors, a bunch of juniors and a few sophomores. Do not underestimate this team, they are hard nosed and will not back down. They have been the underdog since the beginning of the season where they were ranked 3rd/4th in their own district. When this group was in middle school they took Belfry to 6 OT's in post season.

Better team than NewCath fans are thinking, but NewCath should still win.

 

They are a gritty team who plays tough defense and does a great job up front on offense. I think they are better than Newport, but don't match up as well with NewCath from a schematic view. Newport isn't nearly as strong as SV defensively and SV has more weapons collectively, but doesn't have a player near the same level as Price.

 

Think SV rides emotion and plays hard, but I think NewCath has too good of skill and balance for them to stop. I am liking NewCath by 2 TD's in a game that earns the respect of Breds fans.

NewCath has been in this situation before and travel will not be a factor. If they play turnover free football and limit "stupid" penalties, they will by two touchdowns. Teams that runs the ball the way SV does, plays to NewCaths stength. Passing teams destroy NewCath so being able to key on the run should play right into their strength. SV will not back down from what I have seen on film. This should be worth the price of admission. NewCath 9-0 in this round of the playoffs and should move to 10-0 and playing once again in BG. I admit that I didn't think this team had it in them earlier on and was a year away from going back to BG and I was wrong. This team can and will compete in BG for state title.

If it is any consolation most Pburg fans felt that SV was the better team when they beat them the first time.

 

Their loss to Paintsville came when Paintsville was at full strength early in the year and if I recall they blew a late lead and had a snowball effect that led to the 10 point spread.

 

The best way to view them is a team who simply is playing tough, team football.

 

Now with that said, there is a reason NewCath has dominated the Eastern Semi-State for a decade and this wasn't a banner year for Region 4. No doubt NewCath should open as 10+ point favorite but there is always something to say for a team playing with supreme confidence who understands their offensive and defensive identity.
