I'm going with Mayfield. I've always been a results oriented kind of guy, and I will change when the facts change. Graves hasn't won this game since 2008. They consistently beat the Eagles down. Fifteen years of losing can take a large toll on a program's psych. I know some are thinking it's anyone's game but I just don't see it. Cardinals 42-14

Bump. With one day left till the 24' season is underway, have the scrimmages or any internal issues such as injuries, departures, etc. affected how you feel towards the defending champions?

I'm taking the Purples in the poll. Skill positions should match up pretty well. My primary concern(s) will be in the trenches. If BG holds up there, I think the game sets up well for them. If not, then it's going to take a large effort to overcome a team like FD.

Don't want to stray far from the topic at hand, but I can say I know for a fact that money isn't the issue. Warren East has good support and donors. Sporting Times must have it's own sponsors that dictate coverage because there's no real explanation that would be fitting to me on not having them on. Maybe you have a little more insight than I do on that. In 2022, WE went undefeated and made it to a regional final and never got the first stream on ST. I remember wondering what kind of justification there could've been for that. I am super happy to see them get on this year and hopefully it leads to more meaningful coverage.

If Delacey can limit mistakes along with O getting off the field with some timely stops, then I think they have a decent shot to win the game. I think CAL holds them off, but I expect the Devils to get better as the season progresses. CAL 24-14

Agreed on CC, it's honestly a shame what they have been put through and with the lack of attention they get currently it's hard to have any sort of gauge of what kind of team they have. As far as the Raiders, they return a nice bit of their skill group from last season. JR Chris Taylor (brother of former BG Hoops star Terry Taylor) will get plenty of touches his way. He likely will get some reps at both RB and WR. They also return their WR2 from last season JR Brayden Lightfoot. Lightfoot is a speed guy who can beat you over the top. I'm hopeful his development in as a wideout leads to a more extensive route tree. Last season, it felt like he was on the receiving end on screen passes and go routes and that is it. Lastly, the Raiders do get the return of SR RB Jackson McCool, McCool is hard nosed runner who likes to navigate between the tackles. He can occasionally stretch it a bit but I wouldn't consider it his strong suit. The line play will be the big question for WE, IMO. They have athletes that are capable. It will be interesting to see how and if it comes to fruition.

Christian County makes the venture to the Smurf Turf to take on the Warren East Raiders led by SR QB Dane Parsley. I'm not too familiar with what County brings to the table this season, so if someone could clue us in as to what we can expect from the Colonels that would be great! I'd like to think WE takes care of business, but with the unknowns, I can't be sure. Thoughts, anyone?

I'm pretty conflicted. Douglass has a plethora of Division I kids that can flat out play. They are a healthy mix of bigs and skill guys too. Offensively, I favor the Purples. But I can't take a single thing away from Freddy D. They will come in prepared and ready to roll. I expect the game to be ultra competitive, and no matter the result I feel certain that it will be two of the best teams in the state duking it out. So excited the season is here!

Appreciate the updates @Purple88 - this has to be awesome to see in person. Especially against a high quality opponent like Male.
