Owensboro vs. Boyle County at Lindsey Wilson (Scrimmage 8/16)

Recommended Posts

Owensboro and Boyle County will scrimmage each other at Lindsey Wilson this Friday.

This will be the final tuneup for each team before week 1. Boyle spent last week at camp, and Owensboro got in work with Mayfield.

Last year it was a varsity scrimmage for the first three quarters and a JV/Freshman scrimmage for the fourth quarter. Special teams were dead and turnovers were dead.

Thoughts on this one?

I'm a bit conflicted there. Boyle should be fine but I expect Owensboro to have a competitive showing.

I feel like I should be conflicted but for whatever reasons I am not.

I say that and O may get their doors blown off.

Would like to think they can keep it reasonable and not be flat out dominated. It might be wishful thinking.

I’d have to agree. O’s front 7 on defense is ok. LB’s found themselves out of position which led to a few big plays by Mayfield. The secondary got burned on every pass play, Mayfield just didn’t make the plays. I know it’s early but it looks like passing teams will be O’s downfall this year again. Open field tackling was not there by the DB’s either.  Quisenberry will make O pay big time if they don’t wrap up.

That's why you have scrimmages to work out the kinks. O may be over matched in this one but they can make it somewhat competitive, I think that would be a goal.

I was there.  Thought Mayfield played better the first half, Owensboro the second.  But both lack offensive firepower at this point.  Would think Boyle would be head and shoulders above these two right now.

Open field tackling is a tough weakness against Boyle.  But I doubt Coach Haddix shows much of his playbook.  I look for Boyle D to shine the most.

Boyle won't show much and play everyone, still should not get much of a challenge. I heard at Jabez Boyle dominated Pulaski and Rockcastle in controlled situations. One of Pulaski's coaches told me Boyle's oline is really good and also the Dline, he said Kelly on both lines and of course Quisenberry really stood out.
