@Hatz In my opinion at this point, no. He has been on staff for the previous 2 years & I'm sure that the Admin & AD knew of everything that had occurred up to now. If it weighed on them that much, I dont think they would have hired him in the first place. :idunno:

This was IMO the last blip on the season schedule where the Tomcats had a chance of droping a game until the post season. Not that I am much of a prognosticator. :lol:

Anyone care to fill us all in on Coach Hawkins previous experience? Unfortunately I've not heard of him before.

I am surprised as well since they were so established there and if I'm not mistaken his wife was an alum & head volleyball coach at Roncalli as well.

I know that Boyle Co. has a great history & this isn't to talk down on their program, because I think it is a top tier program, BUT there is no way I leave Male to go to Boyle for several reasons & not all of them pertain to football.

Look at it this way everyone, you can fit in one of these games, then probably catch most of a second game of an FCPS vs. non-FCPS school or one of the privates in the area. :banana:

That doesn't matter one bit that he isn't a certified teacher, he still meets the minimum requirements needed to be hired as a coach, whether head or assistant. :idunno: No disrespect, but it sounds like you need to apply to be an AD at a school & go from there. Hiring coaches to fit the puzzle piece of not having positions in the building to put them during certain situations or not hiring a person who is already in the building or was on staff usually comes down to either wanting a change in the direction of the program or just them not being a good fit.

Coaches are not allowed to reach out to the families of student athletes that move into their area. The families themselves can reach out to whoever they want, but even then the school & family need to be careful with their discussion. When I was a high school AD, we had a student move in from California. The mom contacted me & was going through all of the accolades that her son had received from his previous school & I listened but didn't comment on that aspect of the conversation. She stated that they were still deciding on whether they wanted to attend the school I was at, another public school located close to mine, or a private school also in the area. I said, ma'am you are free to go to any school you want to & take a tour of the school, facilities, talk to administration, pick up a student handbook/code of conduct book, etc, but I will not discuss your son's past athletic achievements or anything of that nature. I told her she could look up anything she wanted on the KHSAA website in regards to athletic information she was interested in about any school in the area & wished her & her family well on making a good decision on her sons next school. :idunno:

If Coach Hicks doesn't change his mind & is truly done, I could see Scott County turning it over to Tim Glenn. Polar opposite in many ways of Hicks, but I could see it working.

I understand that. I looked him up & they added him on their roster this season prior to post season play, so that makes him able to participate in the post season. The one year period of ineligibility wouldn't have mattered at all if he wasn't added prior to the rosters being locked the day before District play, its clearly stated in the Competition rules from the KHSAA Sec IV under roster requirements. Glad that he is able to be with the team & hopefully contribute.

Not so sure this is the case. I understand the 1 year of ineligibility rule, but post season rosters are locked on the first day of post season play, so if he was ineligible until today, then I am not certain he would have been able to be added to the post season roster that was submitted at Districts.

Gonna be another tough one for a mountain team IMO. Butler will be too much for the Commodores.

I don't think this is going to end well for the "Fightin Eagles".

Take a look @ any Louisville public school football schedule & they basically do the same thing. Many teams don't leave Jefferson Co. :idunno: (sidenote) I am not comparing Fayette Co. football to Jefferson Co. football in this assertion, just showing that it happens.

I used to say that all the time as well, but I've seen people well up into their 20th+ year of public school employment take a job @ a private school & leave teaching at the public as well. Totally baffling IMO. :idunno:

Was he an assistant on staff there already or hired in from somewhere else? If so, where was he at prior & in what capacity?

Technically 5 staff members (at the Commissioner/Associate Commissioner level) at the KHSAA to cover the entire state. The Department of Education which the KHSAA falls under isn't going to give them the extra budget to do what some of you are asking them to do. A few years back Middle School sports were added to their plate as well, but it's not at full implementation at this point, can you imagine how thin that would take them when/if it ever did happen?! This state is nearly 8 hours end to end if you go from Hickman in Fulton Co. to Phelps in Pike Co & 3.5 Hours top to bottom and that is a straight shot on I-75, not including if you go out to the southwestern part of the state heading towards Franklin. TOUGH for 5 staff members to cover that kind of ground in any situation. There is no easy answer to this and no easy fix.

Speaking from the standpoint as a former AD, the only people whose business it is on what exception they received is: the student-athlete, their family, the sending & receiving schools. If the kid or his parents want to publicize what exception was approved or denied for transfer that is on them, the schools should just be a bystander at that point & this from a school standpoint could be argued under FERPA anyway. And I agree with everyone that has posted that the bylaws that the KHSAA enforces have been created by the member schools & can come up for a proposed change with discussion & vote at the delegate assembly every year.

When I spoke to someone recently, Douglass has not grown as fast as expected & barely are over 1000 students currently, so for the first 2 years were basically the same size as bigger 3A schools or smaller 4A schools.
