Wolfe County (Campton KY) will start a football team this coming season. The first year will strictly a JV season.

They are in the basketball All "A" Classic so they will probably be A or AA. Have they named a coach?

That's good...no reason to start a high school program if there isn't youth football in the area.

From what I’ve seen the district is giving them much funding. I have to believe whatever group is helping fund the youth program is helping fund the HS.

They do? I thought they played in Breathitt County. I thought the NorthRiver Lumberjacks was Breathitt kids with kids from surrounding counties whom didnt have football programs. (Lee,Owlsey,Wolfe.).

 

Regardless, pretty cool. Im happy for the kids in Wolfe County. Congrats to the people who got this done for the kids.

I think Wolfe County’s 9-12 enrollment is around 350.

Hopefully they get a bowl game in the first year as a varsity program, so I can come watch them play.

I used to talk quite a bit with a guy who started two programs from scratch and the challenges are, as many would expect, many. But the chance to start a program from the start would be awesome as long as you had parental and administrative support.

An email came across the Listserv today soliciting items (practice uniforms, pads, equipment, etc.) that could be used for practice and preparation. It appears they will be JV to start with before moving on to varsity.

The open job posted on the KHSAA's site also lists it as a JV start-up.

Looks like Wolfe County found their guy...Chad Vanderhoof has been selected as the 1st football coach. The school's intent is to have the Wolves enter KHSAA varsity football play for the 2021 season.

I’m happy for Wolfe County’s students and fans. I have a lot of friends there through the years when Wolfe County was still in our basketball district before realignment. I may venture up that way to Campton and watch some of their games.
