theguru Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 From Twitter: THOUGHT FOR DAY: KHSAA rules state an athlete must sit out one year after transferring but provides 10 exceptions. Maybe it's time KHSAA goes public with which exception an athlete qualifies for because lack of transparency is creating tremendous confusion & mistrust among many.
Voice of Reason Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Thank you Jason Frakes. I have been making that argument for several years.
That One Guy Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 (edited) I applaud his effort and agree, except in a situation where that information is too sensitive, like a divorce or medical reason. But then, a loophole is created again. Edited January 4, 2019 by True blue (and gold) Rule 13
All State Baseball Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 I think he's referring to Zion Harmon's situation. If so, then I side with the KHSAA on this because his dad publicly came out and said he transferred to Marshall County for athletic reasons. If that be the case then I side with the KHSAA. If you have a situation like Coach Rhodes and Cordia then those players shouldn't be allowed to play, however if a student-player transfers to a school for academic reason then they should be allowed to play immediately. Too many transfers in the state and most are transferring for one reason and one reason only and we all know what that is...
tcjkbt Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 He wrote an article published in the C-J about the federal court hearing...said the Judge would probably rule within a week about whether the young man can play.
macdon Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 Anyone ever wonder why the NCAA rulings are never challenged in court? Or when they are as in the UL case they never see the light of day? It’s because the member schools of the NCAA agree to abide by the rules and rulings of the NCAA. It’s the same with the KHSAA. A school can choose to play a player who is ruled ineligible but they will lose every game 1-0.
Trinity alum Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 I suspect he is looking at the difference between the Harmon case and the kid that left X and played last night at his new school.
Footballmom2 Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 It’s all arbitrary and that is the problem. The KHSAA has TOO much power and they don’t answer to anyone. I commend Frakes for his efforts! Shine some light on how certain people don’t move and don’t have any extenuating circumstances and are eligible and others that move are not. I think there needs to be a house cleaning and start at the top.

His dad said they transferred to Marshall County because of it challenges Zion academically in ways Adair County couldn’t. And I’m pretty sure Jason Frakes is also talking about James Taylor who started the season at St. X, left St. X after the season started, transferred to PRP and played last night for PRP. Why is one ineligible and headed to federal court and another who switched schools during the season eligible immediately? Some transparency on KHSAA’s part would be helpful. Especially for those who know more about James Taylor switching schools after the season started.
TheDeuce Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 It's been said by several people here before, but why does anyone care if a kid transfers for athletic reasons? As long as enrollment numbers are under control, any kid should be able to attend any school for whatever reason he/she wants. Nobody cares if Johnny transfers school because the rivals academic team is better.

If I'm not mistaken, their was a thread about it.
sweet16 Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 There is so much more to the Harmon transfer than what appears.
PurplePride92 Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 Unless he went back and changed his mind he did say he transferred for athletic reasons. If I'm not mistaken, their was a thread about it. He never once said they were transferring for athletic reasons. People jumped to that conclusion.
PurplePride92 Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 There is so much more to the Harmon transfer than what appears. I disagree. I think their transfer situation isn’t any different than anyone else’s. It’s just talked about more because of the caliber of player that he is and for whatever reason folks get all high and mighty about it.

There were and are things behind the scenes that happened for him to transfer. I won’t say anything on a thread because I’m not sure what is allowed to be said.
