Just my opinion but I don't think any program can have a head coach or assistants that just sit back and take it easy. In order to play at a high level you need everybody doing their part. Some are in better shape with Admin. and support from QB club and community that is for sure. But I have always prided myself on putting in the time above and beyond what some might think I should. Our assistant coaches do as well. I think the off the field work and off season are critical areas. Merry Christmas coaches.

We have breakfast for the players from our QB club in the morning then we go out and practice. It’s a great honor to practice on Thanksgiving.

I read the story in SI many years ago while still in college. It is a touching and sad story.

Thank You. I just feel like the more we tie ourselves down by adding additional rules the more coaches will regret it later. For example, look back at the time when Kentucky didn't have spring practice and how long and difficult it was to get it in place. The nice thing is that you don't have to have spring practice but you can if you want. I personally know two very successful coaches that don't do spring practice at all. I get it on some key points and completely agree but we have the ability right now to adjust on our own to make our own program work for our kids, community and school. Again just my opinion.

I was just thinking about this topic. There is no need for a rule to require any coach or program to start practice any later or (as late as that coach wants). If you start your season week 1 (by your choice as a coach) and don't start practice until late July you still have a month to get ready for the season. I remember Joe Prince's last thoughts before heading to Va. He made a great point that what works for a school in Eastern Kentucky might not work for a school in Central Ky. So to install one rule for all will hold some programs back and help others imo. We as coaches have to have our hands on the pulse of our team and program in order to make it work for our particular situation. We stopped about 10 days earlier in June this year than we have in the past. I did not need a rule to make me do this. Just some thoughts.

As long as a coach uses a sound plan and system with solid fundamentals It really does not matter. It is all in what the head coach and staff can implement to fit the type of kid they are getting off the bus each morning. Why the spread is big now is simple. It's what the colleges are doing. The trickle down effect has always existed. The spread type offenses have been around for 20 years or more now. It's nothing new. If you watch what the colleges are doing it is simple. They are trying to establish balance in their offenses in a variety of ways. Talent at the next level has really increased over the years so balance or the threat of balance is necessary to move the ball. If you take UK from last season as an example you see they were a running team that said they are 'air raid'. To their credit they adjusted with the loss of the starting QB to becoming more of 'wildcat' team. Regardless, if they put 3 wide outs out there defenses are going to use 4 to 5 to defend the bubbles, quick game etc. Just my thoughts. What do you think?

Steve is a very nice guy. I think he is going to do well at PT. He could be exactly the type of coach they need at this point.

In playing against Greenwood I can say that they have improved not only due to the QB. Their offensive line play has been tremendous under Seabolt. I think he is a very good coach and have a ton of respect for him. They will be a very good team in the future with coach Seabolt leading that program.

Saul Brady is one the most underrated players around. The senior to be has had back to back seasons of putting together 2,000 all-purpose yard seasons. He has done this while playing every snap on defense as well. Besides Saul Brady I really like our Fullbacks - Carlos McKinney returns at FB and will be a junior and has gotten better with every game he has played. Currently Carlos looks really good in the weight room and is weighing right at 220. He has added about 15 pounds of muscle.The second FB James Baker is a tremendous athlete that returns as a starter on defense but can really be explosive on the offensive side. Senior to be Cade Harvey has led our team the last two years in tackles but will also be a FB and could help us at TE as well. I also look for big things from Junior to be running back Tre' Bass. He has added some really good muscle to his quickness. There are two strong candidates for QB in Rylan Thomas and Conner Rogers. If 6'5 receiver Jevon Covington develops consistency in his game he will be a key at WR. The offensive line should be very talented but will be 'green'. By the time we hit district play they will have faced some very good teams like E-town, South Warren, Greenwood and Glasgow to name a few. With 7 starters returning on defense we could develop into a pretty good defense again this year. There are many other things I could post but I'll leave it at that. Very tough preseason will force us to step up and improve. As always the injury bug will have something to say about how well we develop. Lot's of work to put in between now and then.

I would agree on Matney. I have voted for him several times as well as Dudley Hilton over the years. I think they are two of the best. They have both helped me along the way. I have had the unfortunate luck of having to coach against them in state championship games. Both times I have found out I still have a long way to go. But, I guarantee you that if it comes down to getting the COY honor or winning that final game we would all give the individual award back in a trade for the championship. There are some super coaches out there. I don't know how many won this type of award but guys like Jerry Perry, Marty Jaggers (retired), Tim Schlosser (retired), Johnny Poynter, Brad Hood, Mark Peach, David Barnes, Marc Clark, Larry Mofield, Mike Rogers, Justin Haddix, Chris Larkey, Larry French, Ray Graham (retired), Wayne Mills, Scott Russel, John Myers, Mike Marksbury, Mark Brown and David Buchanan are just a few that come to mind really quickly that I have either coached against or gotten to know over the years that do or did a tremendous job. To add to my thoughts on this I would like to thank all the coaches out there that put in the time and effort to keep the great game of football in our state moving forward and upward. I often tell my players that I have great admiration for high school football players (especially my guys) due to the character, effort and love they show for teammates and the game of football. I feel the same way about high school coaches. You guys are a special group.

Glasgow is on the schedule. Caldwell is off. Open up with E-town. Should be one of the best opening matchups in week 0 in my opinion. First half of the year will be a pretty brutal schedule for us. E-town Monroe South Warren Greenwood Glasgow I don't have our schedule in front of me as I type this but I think this is how it goes early. Meade County is in here somewhere. It is either before or after Glasgow. Hope that helps.

Leave it as is. We all have the flexibility to make it work for us as individual schools as it is now. So it should work out for all involved and for any school that chooses not to have it. We use it to work fundamentals. Strong fundamentals equals safety in my opinion.

Cole power cleaned 290 last week and ran a 5.18 in the 40. I can't remember what his other lifts and shuttle were but those two things stood out to me that day. Cole is 6'4 and 287 currently. Georgia Tech, WKU, Army and Villanova are currently in the mix as well as Purdue. No official offers from those as of yet. Another interesting thing about Cole is that he is young for his class. He really should be going into his Junior season. One of the things coaches like besides the obvious is 3.9 GPA and 29 on his ACT.

You will not meet a better person/Christian than Ray! He can coach my son any day. I would trust any of my family member's life in his hands. Having worked with/for some of the people involved in this while I was at Rowan only reassures me further that Ray is being railroaded. Maybe it isn't all the principal. Maybe there is someone higher up pulling the strings. I won't name names but I do know the whole story and it is a witch hunt.

Offensive and defensive lineman Cole Kirby has picked up his second offer in the last two weeks. Cole was offered today by Marshal. Last week he was offered by UNC-Charlotte. Congratulations to a fine young man that just happens to be one heck of a football player! I am very proud to be his coach. I am sure he and his family are thrilled :thumb:

What school are they coming from? Also if the parents have already moved and secured residence and a job there would be no reason for the kids to not be in school already. No need to hide any of that it sounds legit.

Jordan Bass is a really great young man. Really improved this past season in his first full year starting. Jordan is about 6'3 around 220. We expect Jordan to have a tremendous season next fall. He will be a standout on offense and defense. Hope that is helpful.
