Never thought I'd have a chance to say this on BGP, but....Congrats to my alma mater ETHS on a big win!

One interesting stat: 48 Boyd County FT attempts + 26 Dixie FT attempts = 74 total. Somehow, only one player fouled out.

Hey, I've been trying....

Just checked the KHSAA stats page; Dixie is ranked 6th in the state in team defense at 42.1 PPG. I'll gladly leave the CC debate to those in the know, but I'll also humbly suggest that any team playing that level of defense might win a few games they're "not supposed to" win.

Dixie played well. CC offered different defensive looks -- mainly 3-2 zone but more man than I would have expected -- but Dixie's offense adjusted and shot well from behind the arc while CC struggled to get good looks from outside. Matt Wilson is, well, Matt Wilson, but Jones and Bradfield played hard and managed to limit his touches here and there rather than focusing on stopping him once he had the ball. Y'know, CovCath seems to have experienced one or two recent seasons where they had strong guard play, no classic big man, and only moderate team speed -- and they've been successful because of hard work, team intelligence, and strong buy-in. That's what Dixie is trying this year and it should earn them some respect.

Dixie seemed much more together than in their first game against Walton. Good shooting from Schweitzer, good penetration from Mayer and Plitzuweit, strong rebounding from Jones and Bradfield, and excellent team defense throughout.

I'm sure we're all on the same page regarding blackface. That's why I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that a classmate or parent didn't step in and help that particular student remove it before it came down to a photo op. I would hope and expect it was addressed later.

To be honest, the notion of whether or not this version of school spirit breaks some rules or entertains some attendees isn't my biggest concern. I'm disturbed at more of a philosophical level -- or, as mushy as it sounds, even a spiritual level -- by these types of behaviors. Cheering for your own team constitutes positive energy; deriding your opponent or the officials constitutes negative energy. Why not put all the costuming, choreography, and rhetoric to positive rather than negative use?

I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall a genuine incident one or two seasons ago involving the Crazies and one of the Boone County -- as in, any one of the four Boone schools -- teams or student sections. Given the tone of this thread I'm sure someone knows the details and will be willing to share.

You obviously know what you're talking about but I'm not clear on this part of the timeline. The family's appeal was canceled and then an appeal hearing was held?

Centre is an interesting case -- they play in the Southern Athletic Association, a D3 conference formed by high-academic-level Southeastern liberal arts schools such as Berry, Oglethorpe, and Sewanee. Very cool arrangement.

Is this the result of a direct appeal or did the family have to resort to litigation? I'm hearing conflicting stories.

As the parent of a specially-abled kid I can't think of anything lower than gaming the system this particular way. But, sadly, you're probably right -- given some of the things we've all seen, someone somewhere may consider giving it a shot. [sigh]

So when we reach Player Z, is the next comparison between Players AA and BB? Or do we move to a numeric system?

Back in my day, you surely did not sport a tee shirt and ripped jeans on a college visit. That being said, I've seen this kid play and I predict he'll have more than a few chances to decide what to wear to these types of events. Best of luck to him!

I absolutely understand that -- but that would mean either both of these players are eligible or neither of them is, correct?

As usual when it comes to transfer issues, I'm somewhere between confused and baffled. Tanner Pugh's family changes addresses between seasons and folks consider his eligibility unlikely; Marcus Mullins' family changes addresses between seasons and -- if I understand the chatter correctly -- folks seem to think he'll play this season at Newport. I must be missing something.

I don't know the entire history here, but my impression is that in some cases involving these two schools a player has left one of the two programs while in other cases a player has been removed from one of the two programs. I assume that might make a difference in terms of eligibility deliberations.

And especially to children over 40.

I've checked; it looks like virtually any decent recruiting site but with a bit more detail and, obviously, no links to other players' pages. Doesn't strike me as an ego-driven affair since there are no gushing third-party testimonials or self-serving quotes -- but hey, if anyone wants to judge for themselves, it's a public site.

That is helpful information, and I certainly did not mean to imply that there's anything wrong with kids having their own websites. My point -- which I apologize for not making more clearly -- was that I know a few families who cannot afford a computer.

I think this is something we'll see more and more often as online PR options become increasingly numerous and sophisticated. Part of me worries that it creates a less-than-level playing field for families who lack the finances to engage those options, but I certainly can't begrudge those who can afford to promote a player the right to do so.
