I agree the best player should get awards. To clarify what I meant was if all things are equal, I would give the nod to the Senior. You and I disagree that injured players should be eligible for awards. To be eligible you must participate. POY and other awards should be based on actual play not previous season, club, hype, reputation or college attending.

I have seen Katie play in the back row on a very good NKYVC team so not sure why she wouldn't do it in high school on a lesser talented team. She can attack from back row very effectively and they wouldn't lose much defensively. But, I am not the coach....just seems like it would make Cooper a better team, especially with the fall off in scoring when Katie is on the bench. Frankly, Katie is very undersized for a college middle so she will probably move to a L1/L2 position and will be expected to play back row. Hope she can get some experience. She is a great athlete. As for players receiving POY honors when they are hurt...I have a problem with this. How can they be judged on contributions to a team if they don't even participate? Players should not get these awards based on reputation or hype, they should get the awards on what they actually do on the court during the season in question (not club season or last year's season, the current season). For example, last year, Heidi Thelen received the award and, statistically, she didn't lead NDA in any offensive categories, Morgan Hentz did. Heidi also played only front row. Morgan's offensive contribution coupled with her back row play made her much more of a POY candidate than Thelen. How is it that Morgan was NDA team MVP at the end of the season banquet, yet Thelen was POY of the Region? Oh yea...Thelen was going to Penn State...let's all vote for her.... Bottom line is the coaches/AD who vote for these awards need to pay attention and they don't. It's the same with the Coach's polls and most other "Teams"--- all lack integrity if those voting don't pay attention.

Rumors are wrong. She's been released. Working her way back into the lineup soon. Probably won't see much of her at the LIVT but she will have plenty of time to get back to form before it matters. Chase Barber is released as well.

This season Morgan is lacking the benefit of offenses having to focus on other hitters like they had to when they played the Pandas last year (H. Thelen, L. Hollman and even a setter in Ogle who attacked on 2nd ball). Although A. Thelen and Salkowski are getting it done much better now than earlier in the season, the hitting lanes are not open like they were last year. Hentz also suffered a knee injury during the off season that seems to be affecting her vertical. She plays with a long black sleeve on the leg. What I hate to see is a POY being just a three rotation player. I believe NDA's Heidi Thelen won the last two years and that was a joke. She only played three rotations and sometimes wouldn't impact positively in points at all when she was in. Often times coaches vote for players on reputation alone. Players like Ashley Bush or Morgan Hentz impact the match far greater than a 3 rotation hitter might. Personally, I like when seniors win but because A Bush is out for the first 6 weeks of the season, not sure coaches will consider her. In that case I would look at Rachel McDonald, Hayley Bush or Morgan Hentz.

And I would agree with you 100% if the same people who were claiming they "won" when they actually got killed weren't the same people who were taking smack before the game how it was going to be "close" or the team that got killed was going to win the match etc.

Yes, Glyde, they did...but just like on the Cooper/St. Henry thread when Cooper didn't win a set, somehow that is a 'moral victory' because they 'almost' did. Take nothing away from Scott. They are much improved and I was very impressed with both Jessica Tapp and the Freshman Kelly Franxman and they were without their head coach when NDA played them (maternity leave). But it was NDA first game. Almost an entirely new lineup, new coach, etc. NDA has improved tremendously since then with Abby Thelen, Madison Salkowski and Hanna Knaley nearly matching Morgan Hentz in kills. The Hentz hitting show at NDA is more varied now. I still think there is a better NDA line up with the personnel he has but, the 9th Region Tournament NDA team and Ryle team will both be much different than what has been on the court in this early season.

The player who replaced A Bush is actually playing out of her regular position. She is a DS playing setter so I am sure she will be more than happy to go back to her regular position when A. Bush returns. A Bush is not just any player. She was recently named in the top 75 Seniors in the ENTIRE COUNTRY. She is an impact player not only skill wise but leadership wise as well. She will go on to her career at Northwestern University where she is expected to make significant contributions as a freshman. She is part of an NKYVC team that has consistently posted the highest ever national finishes in the Open division for any team ever in NKy history. She is not just 'any' player. I don't know the parents of her 'replacement' but I do know that the Ryle parents that I have talked to are more than eager for her return. Anyone that values team and team goals over individual playing time would agree. It is no diss on the other players on the team but a player like A Bush comes along only every so often, and she is the only one to ever come through at Ryle. Her sister is slated to be even better than her but her time will come after A. Bush is gone. I am just sick of everyone acting like the Ryle team they have seen is the Ryle team that shows up to Districts and Region. They will look enormously different as will NDA - the difference for NDA will not necessarily be in personnel, (I don't think the new coach has the guts to face the parents if he makes the changes he needs to make, he seems content to play the status quo and not rock the boat and upset the powers that be - parents) but more in composure and player development. I have already seen huge changes in some players in the matches I have watched. It will be an interesting 9th Region. I don't care if Ryle or NDA wins because I know the work those girls do and the high level at which they play club and I want that hard work to pay off. And before you all say that 'all the players play club...blah blah blah...' please don't waste your time. NKYVC is the best training, most rigorous and only club in NKy that produces National results. The majority of Ryle and NDA play for NKYVC. Either team would represent the 9th Region with pride and give a good showing to the rest of the State at the State Tournament.

I'm pretty sure no one will forget the CCH Colonel Crazies "He's scared, he's shakin..." free throw cheer from the 2014 State Tourney Run. Just because they are girls and some boys were loud and cheering makes mommy and daddy jump up and down stiff legged. I remember the St. Henry vs NDA Playing for a Purpose game a few years ago and NDA player Heidi Thelen had committed to Penn State and almost every time she touched the ball the Crusader student section would chant "Jerry Sandusky". Admittedly it took a long time to figure out what they were saying and the administrator eventually stopped it. But it happens. I guess I get frustrated because we complain of no support and then when kids show up and cheer during the serve, those same people get upset. Anyway...it's life, get over it, enjoy it. Sounds like a Big Game environment. Better than the snooze fests I have experienced this season.

Was not there but sounds like the scrimmage from a couple of weeks ago at NDA. Mercy is very, very good. In my opinion it is theirs to lose.

I am not a Ryle fan just a volleyball fan. If you read my posts over the years, I am mostly an NDA fan. I just like for all the facts to be out there and you seem to leave a lot out. I will chalk it up to you not knowing or understanding the game. There is no other explanation other than that for you to not realize that when Ryle lost Chase they changed their entire line up. I am a big fan of the Butler girls and Stinson, they are nice players and have stepped up for Ryle this year but they are not the players that the Bush girls are, even they would admit that. I am sure Tasha and her staff are okay with the early losses during this tournament because they know that are without their key players. However, they are also realizing the results will be different once A Bush is back and H Bush can hit/set again.

Once again leaving out key facts about the Ryle line up. I hope you just don't know the top players in the Region and you are not purposely holding back information to improperly inflate the victory by Cooper. Not only was Ashley Bush not playing, but Ryle libero, Chase Barber, also did not play-injury. Chase not playing necessitated Ryle's substitute setter, Tatum Davis, to become libero. This made Hayley Bush become the only setter so they ran a 5/1 offense, therefore losing H. Bush as a hitter as well. So Cooper did beat Ryle but I think anyone would agree that Ryle was without its best two hitters, it's best setter, and it's libero. Kudos to Cooper tho....looking forward to districts.

Really? Grow up...that young man is a senior and has a disorder of some type that accelerates his aging process. Too bad that the kids accept him for the great guy that he is but adults bully him, anonymously, in a chat room. Shame on you. He's also a really talented soccer player.

Just not sure what Campbell County and Simon Kenton have to do with Region 9 Tournament??? They aren't in Region 9. And not even sure either of those matches are upsets, pretty evenly matched teams, personnel wise. To be fair, Ryle was without it's best setter and best hitter in A. Bush (Northwester) so I wouldn't be too excited. She is a senior leader with 4 years of varsity experience and even the best teams would be hurting without her production. She will be back in time for the tourney so I would expect different results. I am sure the Conner girls played their hearts out but please tell the whole story when posting your thoughts on a match. Leaving out that A. Bush didn't play isn't quite telling the whole story on what happened on the Ryle side of the net.
