Great tribute to a nice man and great coach. To have survived that long coaching means he is doing something right.

Yesterday in District court, Notre Dame Academy volleyball parent, Jeff Klare, pled guilty to the criminal charge of Harassment with Physical Contact. The Commonwealth of KY represented Gretchen Stephenson who was the JV Volleyball Coach at NDA this past fall. An incident occurred at a team party in November, in which Mr. Klare "harassed and had physical contact' with Ms. Stephenson. It's about time coaches started sticking up for themselves against bully parents.

And any 'normal' person would expect the administration to also agree with this action being taken against the offending parent. However, more often than not, the administration would simply give the offending parent a 'slap on the wrist' and the offending parent will continue to behave the same way, maybe more covertly, probably ruining the season for anyone that has to sit in the stands next to him/her. Coach's spouse and children quit coming to games because 'it's not worth it' and Coach resigns at the end of the season....thusly the offending parent wins....

Isn't it great when parents and school administrators let the Coach do his job, play the girls who deserve to play and leave the nit picking at home? I am happy for Dick and for Beechwood. Just hope they keep up the support.

Was this game as impressive for BW as it sounds? Guess Coach Maile is doing his thing. Or does NDA still have injuries, etc?

Obviously NDA coach felt differently than you guys. He tweeted something to the effect that it was a great team win and great execution. In another tweet he said something like great win over a Top 20 opponent. Maybe what you saw was his "game plan"

TOG wasn't this the game that Conner and Ryle students were getting together against CCH? I saw a tweet yesterday threatening the CCH students. I know the students and their cheering are important to the team (I go to games sometimes just to get a laugh from the Crazies). Anyway, maybe the students didn't go to avoid a situation? I have no info on this, just a guess based on another thread on this board and twitter.

Ashley did not win National POY, BUT she did get named to PrepVolleyball.com All American list. She was the only player from Northern Kentucky named to the First Team! How about that? Go Raiders! And congrats to her coach, Tasha Tanner and all of coaches through the years at NKYVC.

Since you aren't familiar except what you "read on here" please refer to the State of our State" thread regarding the other schools in KY that NDA is expected to compete with and did and will continue to. Andrea Lanham made mistakes, as all coaches do, but the season was over before it even began. The seniors and their parents will have to live with that.

Here we go again with the parents running the show. I swear I wish my kids didn't play sports. Let the coaches coach people!

14C and others...coaches from around NKy thank you. This goes on everywhere. I am mostly familiar with volleyball. I can name four coaches in the last 8 years run out of high school volleyball because they didn't play the right kid. Most coaches walk away because it's not worth it. And most parents sit quietly because they are bullied into silence.

Andrea Lanham was named 2013 Enquirer Co-Coach of the Year, Conference, District, and Regional Champions every year but one that she was at the helm at NDA and State Runner Up this year (highest finish since 2007) yet she was run out of town by parents....Sad...Congratulations to her and best wishes. Congratulations also to Tasha Tanner from Ryle who was Co Coach of the Year. Ryle had a record setting season and Ms. Tanner has been there a long time....happy to see her get recognized.

I am not sure what the situation for teachers is in KY but I know in Ohio the teachers have a very powerful union behind them. Administrators are fearful of taking on the union and the union backs the teachers in almost all situations (except sexual misconduct, physical abuse, etc). Hopefully, Mr. Bradshaw has the support of the union so that his teaching certificate is protected.

Buck McCoart. You can google him. Nothing spectacular that's for sure. It's obvious no one wants to coach there. An assistant from UC - Myana Webster - was the first one offered but she declined the job. The other two candidates were young (23 and 26) and female. Buck happened to be the right gender as well. I believe all the varsity coaches at NDA are male except golf and soccer. With all the high level volleyball that is played around here there are many many great coaches (and many are women) but these same coaches know the parents at NDA run the show and even the best coach can't succeed under those circumstances. The school got 7 applicants (and two were from Dion Reyes and Stephenson who were already on staff) so 5 applications to coach a team with the best feeder program, a steady flow of D1 athletes and great facilities. Only FIVE... And the problem parents are gone for the most part, leaving the rest of the Pamda families to try to change the legacy. Unfortunately, the changes need to be made at the top in order to make any real progress

Another stupid question... Seriously what competent parent is going to allow their child to be "steered" by a club volleyball director? All of this is hogwash. I have kids currently in high school and kids headin that way. I have never heard of parents choosing a school because of what a club director told them and all of my kids play different "high level" sports.

This is the stupidest thing to hear. Who chooses a high school based on sports? Especially volleyball? There is much more to NDA than volleyball but if a parent honestly makes the choice based on volleyball then I would bet the kid either isn't good enough to make it or the parent is ignorant. There isn't a better academic school around than NDA.

Mokken....I won't comment on the lawsuit(s) but not sure what 'parents' you are talking to because the ones I know won't shut up about this.

Yes, from what I understand, Stephenson is the lone remaining coach.

The loss of Coach Dion was a big one. Not his choice but he wasn't even given an interview by NDA for the vacant varsity coach position. He is more than qualified as Seton quickly realized. Crazy Parents 2 NDA Volleyball Program 0 All assistants from Frosh, JV and Varsity have quit as well. The only remaining coach is the JV Coach.
