Ashley Bush, a Jr. setter/OH from Ryle and NKYVC, has been selected as one of 25 players in the finals for PrepVolleyball.com national Player of the Year. This is a tremendous honor when you think of the thousands of volleyball players in our country. Ashley earned this based on her play during Ryle's record setting 2013 season. She is also a force for NKYVC, her team finished 7th in the entire country in the Open (highest) division at USA Nationals last summer. She is verbally committed to continue her career at Northwestern University. Congratulations to Ashley!

For softball.....can't find them with a search warrant. :cry: Same at most schools, including NDA. Hoping that starts to change.

This would never happen for two reasons. 1. NDA students don't attend NDA sporting events. Yes volleyball gets a big crowd for Playing for a Purpose and soccer gets a great turnout for the State championship but the other sports probably average 10-15 students if they are lucky. Need we remind BGP the horrible attendance by the Pandas at the State Tournament last year? And 2. The idea that the Colonel Crazies would cheer for the Pandas is laughable. The girls aren't allowed to cheer in the Crazies cheering section and the Crazies aren't allowed to cheer with the Pandas at Playing for a Purpose. At the state soccer tournament it was well attended by CCH but not a cheer was heard from them- besides regular cheering when the Pandas scored. It's a different culture between the two schools. Supportive to a degree (CCH probably gets average of 50 Pandas at their basketball games and even more for football) but they are not one school and certainly prefer to maintain separate student bodies.

I don't see that happening. I don't have a clue what is going on at CC but I know, from experience, firing the coach is the easiest "solution" in administrator's eyes. Most coaches will not fight for a low paying job that often involves harassment and ridicule. They don't have the money to fight or the emotional energy and it is difficult to prove slander or defamation without legal action- which is expensive. Administrators know this so they get rid of the coach, the squeaky wheel parent settles down, the other parents sit with their mouths shut and the new coach makes sure he plays the right people to avoid problems. The team learns that if mommy and daddy make enough noise, princess gets what she wants. In a few years, the same problems repeat themselves as families move on and new ones take their place but the school administration stays the same. To coach in this day and age, you must assume you will not get administrative support and 1. Cut those players you see not getting much time so you have enough playing time for every member and 2. Treat your sport like a rec sport with little internal competition for playing time. I have been coaching for 25+ years and this gets worse every year. The problem is not necessarily the parents it is the AD and administration for selling their chosen coaches up the river. Would you ever see a teacher getting treated like this?

Just found this info on prep volleyball...Assumption had 7 seniors sign NLI earlier this week Six will play Division 1 and one will play Division 2. Only 4 of the 7 received significant playing time this season. In contrast, NDA had 2 seniors sign NLI this week. Both played significant roles in the Pandas season. Assumption is so deep that D1 scholarship athletes sit the bench. Sacred Heart is in Assumptions region, they are also deep, they had 21 on their freshman team. Mercy only had 1 senior, basically the whole roster returns. Assumption finishes the season ranked 6th in the ENTIRE country and Mercy finished 7th. What a tribute to volleyball in our state! I hope this helps everyone put what NDA did this season in perspective. Hats off to the girls

This is a yearly occurrence in volleyball. Between Mercy, NDA and Assumption alone there were 13 D1commitments in the lineups with 25 more sitting on the bench or just not yet decided on their college choice. People seem to not fully grasp the quality of volleyball at NDA, Mercy, Assumption and Sacred Heart. To have a team that for 15 years has ended the season in the NATIONAL top 3 (true for Assumption, Mercy and SHA) means that the team that wins state in KY would, by those in the know who do the rankings, also win a national title. That means competing year in and year out with Texas and California. These little schools from KY. It is truly amazing when one understands. For NDA to finish second or even third in our state is a remarkable feat. If NDA competed in Ohio or Indiana state titles would be commonplace. The girls are dedicated to the program And deserve much praise.

NDA had three committed D1 players on the court. However, sophomore Morgan Hentz, junior Abby Thelen, junior Alicia VonHandorf, junior Micaela Stephenson and sophomore Madison Salkowski either all have offers or will by spring. Assumption had 6 D1 commitments in their starting line up. I can list the schools if you are interested.

NCC beats Beechwood 3-1

NDA is in the big school conference and required to play every NKY team you see on their schedule. They are also required to play all the District games you see on their schedule as well (Holmes, HC, Beechwood) unless the two teams mutually agree not to play (as Cov Latin and NDA do not play because of this). The only NKY team on NDA's schedule that they are not required to play (due to conference or district) is St. Henry.

NCC in 4 NCC is young but they are better. I have seen them play and they do okay. I have not seen Brossart this year but looking at their record it seems they are very hot and cold....but more losses to teams I have seen and was not impressed with than wins vs such teams. I also give the coaching nod to NCC. St. Henry in 4 Ryle, on paper, should win going away but St. Henry plays with a lot of passion and positive energy so I think they pull it out. It is also in St. Henry's gym and they get good support from the students so that will be a factor as well. Coaching nod to St. Henry, player personnel nod to Ryle. Can't wait, will be at the Ryle/St Henry match.....

They seem to be hesitating because of the way they signal for the point to be awarded. In previous years, they would signal their call (net, double hit, lift, ball down) and THEN signal which team was awarded the point. This season they are signaling which team is awarded the point FIRST and then their call. That may seem like a small change but after years of doing it one way, there is a split second to think about what they are doing and that split second is the hesitation you are probably seeing for the most part. I am sure officiating is a thankless job just like coaching. Shortage of both because the good people that are able would rather spend time with their own families than be screamed at by crazy parents.

The coverage this year by the newspapers is terrible. NDA has a website administered by the staff, NDA Pandas Volleyball Home Page. It is tilted towards NDA but does provide pretty fair coverage of all the matches. Includes photos and some stats. It was a great match....
