Followed along on Twitter a bit yesterday and read a little something about it in the C-J this morning. Really wish the paper would've had more to say about such a big match.

The coverage this year by the newspapers is terrible. NDA has a website administered by the staff, NDA Pandas Volleyball Home Page. It is tilted towards NDA but does provide pretty fair coverage of all the matches. Includes photos and some stats.

 

It was a great match....

I believe the paper reported today that Mercy is now no. 1 in the country.....(at least in one poll).

Actually, National powerhouses - both ranked in top 20 in both national rankings - MaxPreps and Prepvolleyball. Mercy ranked #1 in both, I think I saw ND is low teens in both?

 

I'm sure there are those of you who scoff at the National rankings. Those national people see way more high level volleyball around the country than the in-state coaches filling out the coaches polls. Most in-state coaches filling out the polls haven't seen and may never see the teams they are asked to rank (no fault of theirs)- so they naturally default to the W-L record or reputation. These National guys are at the games - I'm going to trust what they say more than someone who hasn't been there.

I'd put more stock in national volleyball rankings simply due to a lot less areas with talented teams. They don't have to wonder if a high school in the mountains of KY or WV or in some small town in west TX has a power that needs to be considered. In KY they look at Louisville and NKY. That's probably true of most states.
