Lack of interest?

Where is everyone?

I think some of it goes back to the Title IX Prime time games and playing on the same nights as Boys teams. When Boys were primarily Tues and Fridays and some Saturdays and the Girls were Mondays and Thursdays fans had a chance to attend games more easily. Now a school has Boys and Girls teams playing on the same night with one at Home and one Away or there are 10 Girls games and 2 Boys games on a night in an area and one of those Boys Games is a killer match-up and draws all the attention.

I know for me, attending a girls game early in the season was painful. Foul calls took any excitement out of the contest. I think it has just cascaded from there.

True but that wouldn't impact the number of posters we have in the forum.

Is it possible we have just had a group of posters move on with graduation. I know of many that were pretty active on here last year that had daughters graduate. And I know several of the teams that have had posters in the past are in a youth movement. It may be possible they just haven't found their way to the site yet or haven't been enticed enough to become members yet. I know there are a lot of people that "just read". Maybe we should all start talking bad about all the programs and maybe that will entice them to join and defend!!! Just kidding! C'mon people! Get on here and brag about your girls!!!

What if they considered once in a while of having Boy/Girl Quadrupleheaders on Saturdays where you have something like a Girl JV game, followed by The Boy's JV game, followed by a Girl's Varsity game, followed by the Boy's Varsity game?

 

If not that, perhaps just a Girl/Boy Varsity Doubleheader?

 

Not every Saturday, but once in awhile to stir up interest in the Girl's games.

 

Admittedly so, I haven't attended many Girl's games in recent years, but when I do, I do enjoy watching how fundamentally sound they typically can be, sometimes even more so than the Boys.

 

Any diehard lover of the game finds enjoyment being a spectator no matter the level, or the gender.

 

It could also be fun watching big student sections finding themselves getting behind a girls game unlike they might be used to doing.

 

In the case of an all boy's school like CovCath, Notre Dame would be the Girls team involved and how cool would it be to watch the "Colonel Crazies" join in vocally alongside of Panda students cheering the Girls team on?

BBall fan, bad idea having the girls/boys double header. I think it would highlight the differences between watching a girls game versus a boys game. The speed and athleticism between the 2 is a wide gap. I've actually been to a boys girls double header this year. Both events were bad games and blowouts. Very hard to sit through both of them. If they are rival games, I still think folks would show up for the last half or leave after the first half, depending on when the team they wanted to watch played.

As for posting, It takes a controversial issue to gain a lot of interest. It's a shame since we have a lot of great lady athletes that everyone should know about. I enjoy reading about the ladies, love when PANDA captures the moments and actually it is OK just to read about a game without having someone post to ruffle some feathers like it often happens in the boys threads.

To some fans of the game that might not be an issue. In some cases you might even have (although I'm not aware of this) families/relatives having children that play on both the boys and the girls teams and could be an exciting event to have it all enjoyed together on the same evening.

 

Coincidentally, I just noticed that there's a Boy/Girl doubleheader tomorrow night (Monday), with Silver Grove @ Ludlow where the Boy's game is scheduled for 6:00 with the Girl's game in the 7:30 slot.

 

Kudos to those school for giving it a shot. :thumb:

1st bolded........This is DEFINITELY true, I know way too many that fit into this category and they could provide MUCH NEEDED info about these games.

 

2nd bolded....... It get's really tiresome when you have folks that can add to a thread to promote these young ladies and you could hear a pin drop, I see them reading the threads.......Come on, these girls deserve better.

Lack of interest?

Having played Girl's Basketball I think I can offer some insight. No, it isn't lack of interest but less interest than Boy's games. Typically Boy's athletics overshadow Girl's unless you are talking College ball ie UConn or Tenn. In other words not alot of respect outside of family & friends in Girl's basketball.

Plenty of stars. I played with an All American who went onto play D1.

So we as BGPer's need to get out the word to Girl's Basketball attend games & talk to Girl's coaches!

This is very common among some of the smaller NKY schools.

I was at the Brossart/CC game last night bit didnt post the final because my phone was dying. I agree with TAC. Very different than watching boys play. The freshman game last night was just painful to watch!

I have a daughter playing for Trimble County and TC has always had a good following for the girls team. We even travel pretty well for a small school. A few years ago we had an away game at a Louisville school and had about 3 times as many fans as the home team. The concession stand wasn't ready for us and sold out of everything really early. Seems like most teams in the NCKC have a good girls following. Maybe that's the exception.

 

I haven't posted scores on here much. I do Twitter updates during games for both the girls and boys but rarely post scores on here. Maybe I should start.

Sure it would. Hard to post or comment about a game if you were not there. NCC and Highlands Girls play in "Prime Time" Friday night............but at same time in NKY you can go to the following Boys games: NCC/Holy Cross, CovCath/ St. X, Ryle/SK, Dixie/St. Henry, Campbell Co/Brossart.
