As far as BGP, it's the same 7 people posting about the same 4 schools in both this and the softball thread over and over and over. Dying isn't the right description, but maybe stale is?

 

It was suggested that we should post in here more to get the girls the recognition they deserve. To what end? Do the girls need motivation from BGP posters to play? The line between promoting and bragging is tricky - maybe there's a silent BGP majority that's comfortable just reading.

 

First bold - If it weren't for those 7 posters, there would be no postings! I don't see your point...other than to take a shot at someone...and I think I know why. :lol2:

 

Second bold - Big difference between motivation and recognition. I don't think any of the girls read BGP to see their name to help motivate them. The recognition is what comes from many others posting...talking about the players on their team. There are good players on several of these teams and we are just trying to encourage people to get on here and recognize them so others that are "readers" don't have to read all the same stale stuff...as you put it. I don't think anyone is saying we are trying to motivate the girls.

 

And you're right, he asks if the girls game is dying. Isn't that the first question in his two-part title? Wouldn't attendance at girl's games be a measurement of that?

I'm a NewCath grad, coach, & parent and I'm going to "bang the drum" for the Breds anytime I can. Promoting, bragging, you can call it whatever you want. However, since NewCath year in and year out, in both boy's and girl's athletics, have some of the top teams not only in the region but the state, you better believe I'm going to "blow my horn" loud and proud. If others did the same for their schools you would see more than the so-called "7 people posting about the same 4 schools".

 

It's not my job to report on other teams. Just about every school has some followers on this board, and it is up to them to do likewise. However, if the Breds are playing, or I attend another schools games, I will be more than happy to report my opinion on what I saw. I'm all for giving recognition, as well as, my sometimes not so popular "honest opinion" to all those deserving. I know plenty of BGP members that do not post a thing, but only read.......hell I get text messages from some of them asking and telling me to post "this or that". The sad thing is many of these folks could add some really good info that sometimes goes unknown.

 

In the end I guess it's, "to each his own".

What if they considered once in a while of having Boy/Girl Quadrupleheaders on Saturdays where you have something like a Girl JV game, followed by The Boy's JV game, followed by a Girl's Varsity game, followed by the Boy's Varsity game?

 

If not that, perhaps just a Girl/Boy Varsity Doubleheader?

 

Not every Saturday, but once in awhile to stir up interest in the Girl's games.

 

Admittedly so, I haven't attended many Girl's games in recent years, but when I do, I do enjoy watching how fundamentally sound they typically can be, sometimes even more so than the Boys.

 

Any diehard lover of the game finds enjoyment being a spectator no matter the level, or the gender.

 

It could also be fun watching big student sections finding themselves getting behind a girls game unlike they might be used to doing.

 

In the case of an all boy's school like CovCath, Notre Dame would be the Girls team involved and how cool would it be to watch the "Colonel Crazies" join in vocally alongside of Panda students cheering the Girls team on?

 

This would never happen for two reasons. 1. NDA students don't attend NDA sporting events. Yes volleyball gets a big crowd for Playing for a Purpose and soccer gets a great turnout for the State championship but the other sports probably average 10-15 students if they are lucky. Need we remind BGP the horrible attendance by the Pandas at the State Tournament last year? And 2. The idea that the Colonel Crazies would cheer for the Pandas is laughable. The girls aren't allowed to cheer in the Crazies cheering section and the Crazies aren't allowed to cheer with the Pandas at Playing for a Purpose. At the state soccer tournament it was well attended by CCH but not a cheer was heard from them- besides regular cheering when the Pandas scored.

 

It's a different culture between the two schools. Supportive to a degree (CCH probably gets average of 50 Pandas at their basketball games and even more for football) but they are not one school and certainly prefer to maintain separate student bodies.

They are not exactly "bustin' the door down at NewCath for girl's hoops, soccer, and volleyball, but do get very nice attendance from the student body. However, for every big "rivalry" game they show up in droves. :thumb:

Like it or not, there is more mention of these girls on this forum than in a daily newspaper. This is how I keep up with local sports. An infrequent box score in the Enquirer does not tell you a teams whole story. Tell it folks!

 

Between Twitter and the internet u can get every score instantly. If you're looking for the "teams whole story", I wonder if the parent of a player posting on BGP is the best source, it will inherently be biased, proven by the often differing opinions and accounts from the same game.

I was picturing in my head the Crazies & Crazettes joining forces for a fun exciting, hugely vocal and perhaps even laughable enjoyable event.

 

If that's not doable, then it is a shame. You could practically throw a snowball from one school to the next and hit it, and probably there are tons of examples of brothers and sisters who attend both schools.

 

I wasn't aware of such a sharp division between the schools, or restrictions for cheering. That's odd. :idunno:

Me too. I'm actually pretty hard on the Birds when they don't play well...going back to last year. And I always talk about the other team positively.

 

And I don't remember too many times where posters on this girls board see the game dramatically different than what was posted. Maybe a few different reasons why they thought a game may have had a turning point or different keys to the game...but isn't this a discussion board?

 

I rarely see glaring differences in opinion on how a game went on the girls forum.

One challenge for the girls game is to get fans that wouldn't normally come to a girls game to come on a regular basis. You can't just go to one game. It takes a while to build up an appreciation for the style of play. If boys is all you know then the first game or first two girls games are going to be rough to adjust to. Once you see a few then you can start appreciating their style more.
