Come to think of it Clyde maybe BGP doesn't give the respect to Girls like we do Boys. For instance, I've never seen a contest for Girls games. My nephew played basketball & I heard about BGP at one of his basketball games. He has long since graduated but I still enjoy basketball & one of the things that keeps me coming back to BGP is the contests. Just a thought.

People are going to girls games. Parents are definitely going. We should have more girls posters than we do.

To some fans of the game that might not be an issue. In some cases you might even have (although I'm not aware of this) families/relatives having children that play on both the boys and the girls teams and could be an exciting event to have it all enjoyed together on the same evening.

 

Coincidentally, I just noticed that there's a Boy/Girl doubleheader tomorrow night (Monday), with Silver Grove @ Ludlow where the Boy's game is scheduled for 6:00 with the Girl's game in the 7:30 slot.

 

Kudos to those school for giving it a shot. :thumb:

In Boy/Girl doubleheaders you are not allowed to always have the Girls game be played in the earlier time slot. They have to have the later slot like 50% if the time. So instead of playing before a decent crowd before the Boys game.... most of the time when Girls pay second 75% of the crowd leaves after the earlier Boys game.

But if some of them stay, it would be more than would be at a girl's game by itself and wouldn't that be the intention? More people to play in front of? And if the girl's game was first, then it may be packed by the time the 4th qtr roles around and that is still exciting for the girls. When you don't play in front of many people ever, any increase in crowd makes the girls happy. They don't really ask for much. I like the idea of Boy/Girl doubleheaders. If it takes one of those for a fan to realize the difference in boys and girls bball, then they weren't coming back to a girl's game anyway. Girl's will very rarely play in front of a packed house. So anything to get people to a game creates excitement for the girls. And some of the girl fans stay and watch the boys...so I'm not sure how it's not a win/win.

 

And who knows, there may even be a few that become regulars at the girl's game because they actually saw that their team actually has a pretty good product on the floor.

Can't speak for other programs, but NewCath girls have had a very nice following for the last 5/6 years, considering the success of those teams. However, when the boys are playing on the same night the ladies take the hit.

 

Had the boys not played last Friday, the Fire Marshall would have closed the doors as this game was pretty close to capacity. Don't think anyone had to park at K-Mart, but they were all over the grass along the "hill". :eek:

That is my point. Title IX says the Girls should not always play first. I say if that gets more fans to experience a Girls game......even if it just the 4th quarter then that is more important than letting them go last and almost everyone leaving and no new fans seeing the Girls game.

O.K then have the girls play in bikinis to pick up attendance. I guarantee that tons of guys would show up then.

Na...not hard to believe at all. And I wasn't trying to compare you to Mr UK. Don't take it wrong, but your not in the same league. You actually think things through and explain why with paragraphs. Sometimes I wonder how you get work done in the day. Mr UK just lets the one liners fly...but that is why he gets so much response.

 

Just thought if you stepped up your game some and threw out the filter....it would get some more posters going. You were just the first one I thought of.

There is more parity in the 9th than I've seen in recent years and I see a handful of teams that can make a run if they get hot at the right time. I've attended several games this year and IMO the overall talent level seems to be way down. As for "stars", I've seen a few pretty talented players, but I'm not sure I label any as "stars". Also, from what I've seen, the talent seems to be spread out with not any one team having multiple high level players.

The thread is titled "Is the girls game dying? Where are the posters?" I don't think the OP was referring to game attendance, but to BGP.

As far as BGP, it's the same 7 people posting about the same 4 schools in both this and the softball thread over and over and over. Dying isn't the right description, but maybe stale is?

It was suggested that we should post in here more to get the girls the recognition they deserve. To what end? Do the girls need motivation from BGP posters to play? The line between promoting and bragging is tricky - maybe there's a silent BGP majority that's comfortable just reading.

Like it or not, there is more mention of these girls on this forum than in a daily newspaper. This is how I keep up with local sports. An infrequent box score in the Enquirer does not tell you a teams whole story. Tell it folks!
