I heard Conner beat Boone Co. tonight which surprises me, especially since it was played at Boone Co.!! Anyone in BGP land see this game? Is Boone Co. missing players or did all the talent graduate? Good win for Conner, but this one has me scratching my head!!:ohbrother:

Only big returners for Boone were setter Alli Borders and libero Kara Means. Middles were non-existent. Libero went in for outside hitters in the backrow, which is odd. Overall, Boone lacked any defense, which led to very many good offensive sets. Alli Borders did all she could do but looked like she had to resort to dumping the ball over on 2 for lack of offense. Conner wasn't much better but with setter Deandra Atwood's serve, they managed to keep Boone serve receive off balance and in turn, they received a lot of free balls and aces.

Thanks for the info!! I've seen Atwood & no doubt Mom has passed down her volleyball know-how to her daughter!! (Best & Smartest Coach in NKY...IMO :clap: ) Should make for a fun meeting Thursday when Conner plays at SK!!! I think Conner could be good down the road since I think their Varsity team is all juniors & sophomores. I just don't see them making a serious run at anything this year. They'll need more than just a good setter to succeed. Not sure about this year, but I thought Conner's libero did a great job of passing to Atwood but they lacked a strong hitter to complete the play. I'd like to see Conner's volleyball program develop, but given the fact Cooper & Ryle are in same district, not sure realistically they would have a chance!! Those are 2 powerhouse programs that are strong way back to their middle school feeder teams. I admit I may be biased but Cooper's Kaity Smith is the real deal & rivals the talent of Ashley Bush from Ryle!! Yep...I said it...Kaity Smith (Cooper) 2014 NKY POY!!!

I would say either Kaity Smith or Morgan Hentz from NDA for POY depending on whether or not Hentz is healthy. Smith is better offensive player but Hentz is all-around amazing.

During the second meeting of Boone/Conner at the September Slam, Boone took care of Conner. It was strange this year that Boone's (and I think Conner's) first matches were with each other... district competition. I think that first match loss is more of an indication of a slow start for Boone. Even through both meet-ups, the teams seemed very well matched.

Disagree totally. Hentz is a much better offensive player. Hentz also has a much greater ability to hit non-perfect sets.

That's not true. I've seen multiple games where she repeatedly hit right into a block set after set. For example, St. Ursula which wasn't even NDA's strongest opponent. Morgan Hentz can't go over a block where as Kaity Smith can. I think Ashley Bush is better offensively than Hentz too.

This season Morgan is lacking the benefit of offenses having to focus on other hitters like they had to when they played the Pandas last year (H. Thelen, L. Hollman and even a setter in Ogle who attacked on 2nd ball). Although A. Thelen and Salkowski are getting it done much better now than earlier in the season, the hitting lanes are not open like they were last year. Hentz also suffered a knee injury during the off season that seems to be affecting her vertical. She plays with a long black sleeve on the leg.

 

What I hate to see is a POY being just a three rotation player. I believe NDA's Heidi Thelen won the last two years and that was a joke. She only played three rotations and sometimes wouldn't impact positively in points at all when she was in. Often times coaches vote for players on reputation alone. Players like Ashley Bush or Morgan Hentz impact the match far greater than a 3 rotation hitter might.

If a player deserves the award they should get it, not matter if they are a freshman, soph or whatever, if the player is the best player, coaches should be able to nominate and support the vote, even if they were hurt due to injury, I don't think you should penalize a player due to an injury, the best player should get the award if you wan to keep the integrity of it, imo. I realize it is unfortunate that many coaches, ad, and whoever casts votes are unaware of the better players for the simple fact they may not have seen them play.

I am so tired of reading about a player that has not stepped foot on the court, what if, what if..., leave the poor kid alone, I am sure she wants back on the court asap, lets talk about the girls that are playing, and leave out A. Bush, give credit where credit is due and stop making excuses as to what Ryle would be like if she was on the court.

Rumors are wrong. She's been released. Working her way back into the lineup soon. Probably won't see much of her at the LIVT but she will have plenty of time to get back to form before it matters. Chase Barber is released as well.

That's good for both of them and especially good for Ryle. Looks like Ryle will have a much better chance at beating NDA/St. Henry/Cooper. But I still don't understand how Chase Barber could be released after so many head injuries?

I'm in agreement with you!! That is a huge liability that I'm not sure as a coach I would want on my hands!! I know for a fact she has suffered at least 4 concussions in the last 18 months!!! I'd like the name of the Dr. that released her so I can be sure to steer family & friends away from that practice!!!
