8th Region Stretch Drive
365 days a year replied to retropop's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Anderson is the clear cut favorite until someone proves they can beat them, remember you have to win 3 tough games in a row and the others show alot of incosistency compared to Anderson. Really think that they are 4-5 teams that can beat each other any night but being inconsistent does not win you regions just games in the regular season. -
Lexington Herald Boys State Rankings 1/17

I would put Oldham in the top 25 after watching them, they have beaten a couple of the teams that are in top 15, and lost to 3 of the top 20! Anybody form the 12th in the top 25 is a joke! -
8th region guys are pretty solid, if Im not mistaken they call most of the state tourney finals! I know at least 6-8 guys that call college basektball.

Nobody from the 8th? The Oldham's are better than at least some of those teams. -
South vs. Oldham County info
365 days a year replied to 365 days a year's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Thanks Colonel Mike for the re-cap. Sounds as if I missed a great game!! I can not believe that they are still ahead of Oldham in the LIT ratings, exactly why they dont need to exist! -
Did not get to see the game Friday, my son was sick. Heard it was a great atmosphere! Colonel Mike or someone got any info on the game?

Very impressive for the Coaches at South, they are a great group of guys as well. They have did a tremendous job over the last couple years, would it not be nice of South and Oldham where as one! How good could they be? Thanks for the info Colonel Mike! -
Spencer County or Who in the 8th Region

Lets look at Christmas tourney's for example, with even last year's Dragons, they won both tourney's did it prepare them for winnign the region? Last time I checked they have not ever won a region?? They play a weak schedule when they have a chance to play some better teams. Yes they play J-town, that one big game a year does not prepare you for winning 3 in March. I think they played the Asutrailian JV/Freshmen team last night, won by 40 and had starters on the floor in the 4th?? Their first tough game this year will be Friday, not saying they will not win but it will go a long way in how I feel about some teams that play a weak schedule every year and dont get the results they want in March. They played at Western Hills, and the HCITfor Christmas. Where did Simon and Oldham play for example. They were in the Republic Bank and the AIT. Only time will tell, but if we look at the past, the results don't lie! -
Oldham County vs. South Oldham predictions
365 days a year replied to ColonelMike's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Colonels win this one, play a tougher schedule and are battle tested! Even though South lost 8 seniors, they have 8 on this team so that is very misleading, I'm not sure but I think Oldham only has 3-4 seniors on their team. Will be a great game to watch! Oldham 67- 62 in a close one. When does Simms comeback for Oldham? When he returns they could be very good -
Does anyone know the format for determining this ranking? I know some districts that go to this thing for a tie and whoever is higher gets the higher seed. I know some teams that are ahead of others that are a joke. One in particular that plays a cupcake schedule and gets wins and beats some of these small schools by 40, aggravates the crap out of me to see them ahead of a 3 loss team that has lost to 3 top 20 teams??

Spencer County or Who in the 8th Region
365 days a year replied to Teamballer's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I think that it is Simon, or one of the Oldham's to lose. Oldham, Simon, and North play hard schedules, I know that Oldham has played 5 ranked teams, and North is in the Gaslight this week. Simon is at the AIT, so all are playing competition. Spencer's schedule a good JV team could win 20 games, not a way to prepare to win the 8th. They got a good team and a shot like a couple more teams, but that schedule will hurt them down the road. South same story, for years they want to win 20 games and that does not prepare your team for winning the region. Playing 1 hard team at home does not cut it. -

Great week of games at Mercer County! Fort Walton Beach out of Florida of course defeated Oldham County in the final. The tournament should get better and better each year! Have a great Christmas basketball fans! Great championship game by both teams, both played well all week! -
Bullitt East vs Oldham County
365 days a year replied to wfbr939's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
This was a great game to watch. Both teams battled and it reminded me of the old days in the 8th region. Bullitt East has the weapons to win the region this year, they have shooting and size, with experience at the guard spot. Oldham County has a chance to win the 8th for those same reasons. Would be nice to see these 2 in Rupp. I think that Oldham still has 3 players out that get to return soon, they sure needed the big kid tonight to help with Willis, and Washburn. Great game both teams -

I think North is a little to high, losing their 2 guard who was an all region player, will have a huge impact. South should be a little higher, and Collins losing Hicks I think drops them out of the top 5 . I don't think Shelby County will be in the top 10, Owen definitely should be higher. Spencer hosts the district this year look for them to be a sleeper in the regional tournament. -
For Shelby all of their best basketball players went to Collins and after watching Shelby this summer they may be #5 in that district, however Collins will be solid and well coached with Curtis Turley being there. South will be young but dangerous if hitting all of those 3's they shoot. Someone mentioned it earlier in a post, that on a particular night some of the sleepers can knock off a favorite and I could not agree more, its winning and beating 3 good teams in a row where it becomes a struggle. Some playes to watch are listed below . With that being said I think that Simon, Oldham and North are a little better than everyone else "BUT" can lose to anyone else! North Oldham-Rowan, Steinfeld, and Levitch Oldham- Smith, Payne, Wesley, and Denise South- Fields, Sherry Collins-Elzy Simon- Chambers Spencer-Dunbar Owen-Williams Gallatin-Davis

Henry County 2010/2011
365 days a year replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
They will be very young inside but talented. Probably will start 2 freshmen and a sophomore in the paint, all over 6'3. They will struggle handling pressure and scoring as their guards are undersized. They did get a transfer in I hear that should help them. Hartlage kid has a lot of heart, they do host the district tourney this year and in the SHOE anything can happen -

Who is in your top 10 for next season?
365 days a year replied to wideopen's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Lets dont leave out a very good Paducah Tilghman team. Eastern and J-Town are in classes by themselves. This is what makes basketball so great in our state! Christian County has the second best player in the state and is very good as well. Clark county seems to always be in the top 10 but they never seem to get by Mason County.
