  1. Whatever they go with it should be for the entire state, that is where the problem rises, also the smaller schools get their shot with the all A, everyone should play twice!
  2. Well the 3 Oldham's are strong and with 2 of them making the tournament that would be mean someone would have to beat one of them on Monday and and then on Tuesday. Dont know if anyone in the region can do that. The draw will be important as always. Simon also will be in the mix as they have played a hard schedule and have been competitive all year. Of course Gallatin and Owen could be a spoiler, and Collins on some nights will beat anyone. I said this last year, and it is so true, you have to beat 3 good teams, how many can do that?
  3. Oldham playing without Kerry Smith tonight but, Grant fights really hard and they are improving after seeing them early in the season. The referees were awful in the entire game for both teams. Total of about 12 free-throws between both teams. Grant hosts the district so they can be very dangerous at home, if they are making shots look out. Their overall size hurts them but their effort neglescts some of that.
  4. It is longer than 84 feet, it might not be 94 but definitely longer. They have played college games in the past. Toward Gallatins bench they endlines are definitely further back. They are a great passing team, so with extra space good luck pressing
  5. Pretty much decided it that Owen will be the #1 seed in the district tournament. Districts are at Owen this year, look for the rebels to be in the regional tourney. They will be a factor come tourney time. Gallatin County tough place to play also because it is a college floor, different for teams, they are always good and as mentioned before good teams rarely lose at home.
  6. I'm not saying play stall ball, I am saying that when you are ahead it would be respectful of the other team to stop pressing them, maybe work on your zone offense, let your younger guys play and maybe even dress your younger kids that dont play varsity. As a coach you know when you are alot better than someone. As the coach of the team losing I would want my players to play as hard as they can, it they are not trying and pouting I would not care if they get beat 50. If it is a case of just being overmatched and there is nothing you can do about it like a district mandatory game, then I would make sure that I didnt beat a bunch of kids by 70. There are some bad teams out there and I understand that, some coaches however run it up on purpose, and that is what drives fans, parents and other teams crazy.
  7. I am afraid that the LIT rating that comes out after Christmas for each region really makes some coaches run the score up. The LIT is some districts tie breakers for seeding even, I know that running a score up in some cases is inevitable. Two different situations, a team is up 12 with minute left, coach takes his kids out, other coach leaves his studs in to win by 20 in the last minute, watched this Tuesday. Another scenario is the coach wants his team to still execute etc, and leaves them in, probably not going to get to execute very much so that is a load of crap as well. As a coach we supposed to be coaching because we love the players and respect the game. When someone wins by 40 or more both have been thrown under the bus.
  8. South is not in top 5 in their own region. or top 2 in their own district! 1. Trinity 2. Ballard 3. Moore 4. Bullitt East 5. PRP
  9. Watching Conner against Oldham last week, Odlham beat them around 30 and was being nice, Coach Hicks has some nice young players but I thought Dixie was loaded. If they play like that they cant win the 9th.
  10. Nobody from the 8th region, really? Oldham has to be in top 25
  11. Saw Warren Central play this summer and Hopkinsville, both are very talented, after the top 5 you have about 25 teams that could be ranked arguable at some point. When you look at some of the teams listed it is obviouly about respect from past years. Hard to see everyone play in the state, summer is a good time to see different teams but a hard time evaluating teams because they dont have all of their kids sometimes.
  12. Oldham County and North Oldham should be in as well, Oldham beat 4 of those this summer by 20
  13. Gallatin County will be good again, but they are not as good as teams Coach Jones has had in the past. It helps being in their conference and in the ALL A, they have dominated those teams for the last 6 years and that means 20 wins each year. Gallatin plays some big boys too and has success against them as well. Coach Jones is the one coach in the region that has been with his school for a while and that means alot to the team, and the community. Their guards are solid and that wins games for you come post season.
  14. The Patriots of Lincoln County has a chance to win the 12th after seeing them this summer, watched them beat Scott County on their floor. They are young and will have nights were they play like it but by the end of the year they will be strong. Look for Southwestern, Lincoln, and Pulaski to fight it out in a well rounded region.
  15. Madison Central and Henry Clay are the most talented teams but Lexington Catholic always seems to find a way. Scott County has 2 studs but really are down for them I am surprised they are #1 in CATS pause book. However Franklin will be better, Lexington Christian, and lets not forget Tates Creek who is well coached.
  16. I agree that Alexander is a good player, but they lost their top scorer, rebounder, and post presence. I just dont want the people in Bedford to be mad at a first year coach when they dont win 15-20 games, 10 would be a great start for the Raiders, he will do a good job, be patient.
  17. Trimlbe lost Webb off last years team and he was the only size, scorer, rebounder for them. I think they will be much improved and excited about playing. Playing against the ALL A teams will help them, but a tough tough district!
  18. McNeil off the list is just silly, he can flat play and was on the all region team last year. Will be a great year to watch basketball in the 8th region
  19. Who is SK going to climb over? Last 3 years they have not got past first round of the region. Chambers is a senior so they lose him, and I saw their JV team last year once against Oldham I think and Oldham beat them. Don't think they have as much talent coming as Walton, and being runner up means you get an Oldham school, and possible Collins, Gallatin/Owen every year and that usually means season over as it has in the past. Look for Gallatin and South to be very dangerous by season end, good coaches and young talent. Region is wide open again. The player rankings are a little off in my opinion. Wesley from Oldham should be in top 2, and leaving off the PG from Walton was just silly. Smith from Oldham not ahead of Chambers is a joke, and Jack Sherry not on the list as well from South.
  20. The team that worries me is Walton Verona, they were a play away from semi-finals last season and they return a lot. Their coach does a lot of different defensive sets, does a great job. I think that Simon and Grant will battle for a trip to the region, me giving the edge to Simon based on having the best player on the floor. Should be a great year in the 8th. I think pre-season it is hard to put any of the district in the top 5 in the region, but by the end of the season they will have closed the gap.
  21. Walton should pose probelms as they did for them last year. Simon and Grant will fight it out for the regional birth but SImon has one of the better players in the region with Chambers. Watched them at South this summer and they looked bad but that is summer ball. Gallatin beat them handily. They did have a good JV team last season.
  22. Cousin of Daniel at Henry Clay went to Berea College and will do a great job as the other Berea College boys are
  23. 4th is where they should be for now, I agree that they could be team that could win the region as anyone in the top 8 legitimately will have a shot. The region is very similar to what is was last year and that makes for a great tourney at the Roy Winchester gym. Should be a great year for basketball accross the state. Dont forget that Gallatin and Old man Jones are always a tough out, and Henry always seems to beat Owen or at least split with them in the season. That district will make all 3 better as the year goes on battling one another. I really think that Spencer, Gallatin, Henry, Simon, South Oldham are all going to be dangerous come tourney time. Anderson, Shelby, and Grant will be better as well. The 8th might not have a true great team but has a lot of good teams, with some great coaches.
  24. #1 Oldham/North Oldham #2 Collins #3 Owen #4 South Oldham #5 Walton Verona I know what Owen has coming back, just dont think they have got better at the guard spot, will not handle pressure again ,never been past final four, etc. Just dont think they are better than the top 3. They have not won the ALL A in a long time, which is a regional type tourney, most all A schools call it in after that tourney
