gold sunrise
Basketball season for 2011/2012 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Owen County? Remember, please be constructive.
Lakers22
This team is loaded. Williams is 6'7 stud in the middle. Osborne 6'4 2 guard who can fill it up. Ripey is a solid point guard. Ball is a good shooter. Younger Williams and Shelton provide additional height and scoring. Solid team and a good coach in Duval. This team may have the most talent in the 8th region. They should win All A region and district and be a major contender for the big region.
BGCat
I agree 100%. This could be the year Owen co. makes their first ever trip to the big dance!
MBKT
I do not think Owen County's guards can handle the ball well enough against defenisve pressure. If they cannot, the impressive Williams kid will be somewhat frsutrated in the paint.
365 days a year
Watched them again this summer, and saw the same weaknesses as the year before. They hate pressure and can not handle the ball well enough to limit their turnovers. Oldham, North Oldham, South Oldham, and Collins are better than they are and with 3 of them being at the regional tourney I think they better shoot for the ALL A, but for whatever reason Coach Jones beats them as they did last year in the district tournament. They beat them by pressing for 32 minutes and Owen does not handle that well. They defintely could be a dangerous team, winning 3 in a regional tournament is really tough, and they did not make the dance last year. They do host the districts this year and will be the #1 seed I think. Walton will be dangerous in the ALL A tourney as they beat Owen last season twice I think. vicki@vickiturner.com
Actually Owen County beat Walton-Verona twice last season. They beat them at Owen 56-48 and then again at the Bearcat's Senior night 45-40.
vicki@vickiturner.com
Owen also beat North Oldham 57-51 last season. Since Owen County lost no one from last year's team, I wouldn't say that North Oldham is better than Owen.

fastpitchfan
So how would you rank the top 12 teams in the eighth?
365 days a year
#1 Oldham/North Oldham #2 Collins #3 Owen #4 South Oldham #5 Walton Verona I know what Owen has coming back, just dont think they have got better at the guard spot, will not handle pressure again ,never been past final four, etc. Just dont think they are better than the top 3. They have not won the ALL A in a long time, which is a regional type tourney, most all A schools call it in after that tourney

I agree the guards are really going to have to step it up this year, but I think they are ready. They were very young last year. Owen County will have great senior leadership out of Williams and Osborne and some up and coming talent from the bench. I think little Williams will be a tremendous asset to the varsity program this year. I am not saying I think they will win the region...just don't think they are getting enough credit. Only time will tell.

365 days a year
4th is where they should be for now, I agree that they could be team that could win the region as anyone in the top 8 legitimately will have a shot. The region is very similar to what is was last year and that makes for a great tourney at the Roy Winchester gym. Should be a great year for basketball accross the state. Dont forget that Gallatin and Old man Jones are always a tough out, and Henry always seems to beat Owen or at least split with them in the season. That district will make all 3 better as the year goes on battling one another. I really think that Spencer, Gallatin, Henry, Simon, South Oldham are all going to be dangerous come tourney time. Anderson, Shelby, and Grant will be better as well. The 8th might not have a true great team but has a lot of good teams, with some great coaches. You are right that there are several teams who could win the 8th. I just don't see why you have North ranked so high when Owen beat them last year and have everyone back. I just don't see why you have North ranked so high when Owen beat them last year and have everyone back. Not that it matters, but based on your logic, since Owen did not make it out of the 31st District Tournament last season and North Oldham made it to the 8th Region Semifinals, that could easily justify putting North ahead of Owen at this point.
