Don't have it all available right in front of me, but am certain they beat some CovCath teams that went on to win the AAA state title. (Back when there were 4 classes of football in Kentucky.) Also beat Bernie Barre's Wyoming (Ohio) team that was supposed to be pretty good in an early Crossdown Showdown.

I like VOR too. I mean I don't really know who he or she is, but I am certain our paths have crossed. I am all for defending "his coach and program". You just can't do it blindly and keep waiting for next year. Those of us suggesting changes or adjustments are for "our program" too. It is like the old political debates...you can disagree with the other point of view without thinking the person is an awful human being. I, for one, like Rash and want him to stay, but want him to sincerely look at the whole program and make changes as they are warranted. To not do so would be to say that everything is alright and it is not despite what vocal backers like VOR might think. You are hearing from many long time supporters of the program that are saying the same thing without sons on the team or anything like that. So while we may be biased (wanting the best for the Tigers), it is not with a selfish intent of wanting our little Johnny or Timmy to play more, or start at quarterback or anything like that.

Check the school you often discuss: Highlands VOR: The point I believe you always attempt to make is that the Beechwood slip came towards the end of Yeagle's tenure. I would say the Rash regime=Tubby Smith's at UK.

I will reply paragraph by paragraph...yes they can't beat Mayfield, but now they didn't beat Frankfort. As you are so often fond of saying, when did that happen last? Whom besides NCC have they beaten that won a state championship in the last five years? If the classes had been 4 instead of 6 would NCC have beaten the 1A champion? I don't know, but it is debatable. Last year Holmes was also an early out in the 4A playoffs and did so well their coach was not asked to return. I really don't have a problem with Beechwood's schedule. They always have a rigorous out of district schedule. I question what is gleaned from the games to improve the squad. You have to make adjustments to your personnel and who you are playing against during the game. Honestly, I think this is the weakness of the staff. I wonder about the approach of the coaches at halftime, and I am not talking about how they talk to the kids or anything like that. I am talking about first half analysis of their opponent and how they can exploit things in half #2. A quick example would be the NCC game this year. What coaching staff do you think made better adjustments? The head man for NCC is in his 1st year as a head coach. Yes he has been there as a coach on the staff for a while, but so have Beechwood's coaches and you seem to believe that is a plus. We seem to agree on next year being important, but we always do. 2011 they had a bunch of Seniors and lost the heartbreaker. Last year one of the best players out of the program graduated. This years Sophomore class was supposed to be awesome and roll. Perhaps too much hype out of the folks in Ft. Mitchell. I never said this was a great team. Others did. I never have had a son play for Beechwood, but have seen many a game at Edgar McNabb field and for the Tigers on the road. I have been saying the program is slipping for whatever reason. It has been. I want the Tigers to return to prominence.

Good points all around. I think Wirth's job is secure. I think the feeder program is netting some results. As to would they play if they weren't in the same district? I say yes, but with some doubt. The Freshman played and beat Highlands this year. The varsity lost twice. But then wasn't there an issue on here I read about with regards to the jv game?

The program has been slipping as I have said for years and for the cries of denial I find it funny. I like Noel, but if he doesn't look at every aspect of his program and make changes, then the slide will continue. Those "great Freshman" are now upper classmen football wise, because their Sophomore season is over. Who has Beechwood beaten lately that they shouldn't have? Where is the big upset? Who are the bigger schools that they are knocking off? In 2012, they lost to Holmes. No way that should have occurred. The next step will be a positive or a negative one. Either Beechwood can get back to being a football power in Kentucky or they can't. The decisions IMO are with Rash to thoroughly analyze his entire program. To do nothing would be to ignore the facts. Beechwood has the building, the weight room, support from the community and a storied past. The railroads used to be the main vehicle for transporting goods once upon a time too.

What you are seeing is denial by the Beechwood community to see something that is obvious to everyone else. I have been saying this for years and have been laughed at, but I have seen the play over the years and that is what I know. Some will say the talent isn't as good as it used to be. Nobody knows that for sure, but I do believe when you stop winning state championships that the players that are choosing between a few schools stop having you at the top of their list. Yes Beechwood gets many non district kids because of the academics and the band, etc, but football is not talked about nearly as much by those that have choices as it was years ago. That is an irrefutable fact. It correlates with the state championship dry era.

Congrats NCC on advancing. Congrats Gallatin County on a sensational season.

Agree.....time to really look into the staff and see who is helping move the program along and who is not. Crank out the records again VOR. The watered down 1A is not the happy place it once was for Beechwood. Something isn't right and nobody knows what it is. If it is just talent, then you are discrediting the coaching staff. Of course, reading another thread on the game, maybe it was the refs. They had the sinister plan to knock off the Tigers tonight. Part of the vast anti-Beechwood conspiracy around the bluegrass. Now not even semi-finalists.....not much further to fall down to wouldn't you agree? The next level down is a huge drop off.

Totally a financial decision at this point for the OHSAA.....can't blame them.

To be fair to Big sale.....Cincinnati Bengal fans think there is a great rivalry with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but for Steelers fans lately they consider the Ravens a MUCH MUCH bigger rival. Good luck to both teams. I can't see the Bluebirds losing this one or any other this year. Same old song in dance in Kentucky football.

Great stuff! And while I agree Beechwood may belong on the same field, and no need to stop playing CCH, I would ask, when is the last time Beechwood BEAT somebody of note? A little like former Reds skipper Dusty Baker IMO. Yes they will win the rest of the regular season games this year like opening Christmas presents, but can they win the game that matters? I am a doubter. They have to prove it to me that they can. Line play has to be better because Mayfield will match their speed and the coaching adjustments will be sound from the Cardinals.

Totally agree VOR, and I said so earlier in this thread. I want nothing more than Beechwood to get some more hardware. The coaches do need to recognize it is a new game and time and work on that passing game from the beginning of the year. The pieces are in place. Coach Rash is wise enough-now set the tone and get it done!

Yeah I said Holy Cross. Would Beechwood have rather lost to Holy Cross 69-26 and won the state title that year or have beaten the Indians 69-26 and been bounced in the playoffs again with no ring? Give me the title Alex. Beechwood seems to have the priorities mixed up for old time sports fans these days. Good at band-win state. Football-pave the Panthers. Geez.

I appreciate the research VOR. Furthermore, I think you would agree that the perception of Beechwood around the state has dropped. It used to be when people talked about Northern Kentucky football the rank order would go Highlands, Beechwood, CCH, NCC. I think Beechwood has fallen to the four hole now, and throw in the fact that Holy Cross won a state title lately as well. The slippage may have begun under Yeagle, but I would say the lack lately for the Tigers to win a state championship is near drought mode, and again, it really should have been easier with the Commonwealth going to 6 classes of football. The younger kids look good, but as you know the Tigers might be elevated to 2A status soon with the ever shifting sands of enrollment for various schools around the state. All is not lost as NCC went through a dark period years ago, and then to his credit Coach Bob Schneider dramatically changed the way his teams played on offense. The changes resulted in state championships and have continued beyond his coaching tenure. Coach Rash has the ability and personnel to do the same.
