Maybe we'll get to see each other in the playoffs one of these days. We'll be young, lost alot of talent especially on defense with Perkins and Root graduating, but we do have some frosh that played on the middle school state champs that in a couple years are gonna be hard to handle. Best of luck for a great season. Seems football is the life blood of small southern towns...God sure knew what he was doing when he led man to create HS football!!

Yeah was really surprised he chose baseball, but probably shouldn't have been. He showed he had a live arm a number of times this year, especially throwing out three in a row attempting to steal against Corbin. He has the grit and moxie to really excell in college, and the kid just doesn't strike out, only 4 times all season. I think Berea is really getting a kid with a ton of potential. The thing I liked best was him saying he chose Berea for the educational opportunity. I think he had like a 27 or 28 on the ACT and close to a 4.0 in the classroom, so Berea is getting not only a stellar athelete, but a good student as well! Congrats Andrew, look to see you continue to make the Burg proud.

Standout catcher Andrew Root signed with Berea College today. Turned down a few football offers to go with his first love baseball. Congratulations to a very fine young man!

Williamsburg will be young this year and will have to replace allstars in Root, Perkins, Payne and Lowery. But with that being said there is a ton of talent coming up. Logan Hamlin will shine at QB and has increased his size and arm strength. Hoffman, will again be a big play guy, and Jeffers will anchor the line. The other skills will be young but overall team speed will be better. I look for a good season this year, and then after all the freshman gain a year of experience...look out! Williamsburg will be solid for the next 4 years and I expect a state contender in the next 2 to 3 years.

Congratulations to Williamsburg's quartet of JP Payne, Cody Perkins, Kevin Hoffman, and Andrew Root. Wow guys, great honor and you made us proud!

Just heard that Kevin Hoffman was named Running back of the year. Didn't mean to slight him.

Sure his offense will work. The key is recruiting the type players to fit your system.

I am not originally from Ky. and have lived and coached in Va., NC, and Tenn. Personally with this being traditionally a basketball state, I like the six classes. Before you shout me down, think of the fact that this may possibly generate more football interest state wide, and allow football to catch up with basketball a bit in generating statewide interest. Yes the same powers that be, Trinity, X, Highlands, Bell, Boyle, etc. will probably always be in the finals, so what? Schools that have had little tradition have a shot at building some. I know where I follow football in Southeast Ky. at a single A school I have seen interest grow and numbers grow as our school re- establishes its tradition. Have we made it to a finals, no, but these kids and future generations are proud of what is being built, and I do think down here football has surpassed basketball in interest level. Maybe I'm crazy, but i do think this may be a side to a coin that is not being considered enough.

Congratulations to Andrew Root being named SEKC Linebacker of the year with over 100 tackles for the season and 5 fumble recoveries as well as a number of forced fumbles, to JP Payne as receiver of the year (2nd in the sate regular season in receiving), and to Cody Perkins as defensive lineman of the year with a number of sacks, 50 or so tackles with approx 20 for loss and 7 recoveries. You guys make us very proud, and best of luck as I know all three of you are looking to play at the next level !!! And beyond being outstanding players you are great people and represent our little school with JACKET PRIDE ! :ylsuper:

I like the way you think The more I've pondered and ciphered on this game, the more chance I think LCA has...course I've never been accused of being sane!!!

Was very impressed by Hazard when we played them. LCA, if they can run the clock and shorten the game, as well as be very sure tacklers on defense, does have a chance, in fact a real good chance.

Dang this massey guy plays at alot of high schools...still haven't figured out who he was in our game with Fairview..wasn't on their roster...lol lol lol

My heart is pulling for LCA as they rep our region. After playing Hazard though, I said they would be in the state finals. Very explosive, good speed, and very well disciplined. They can score very quickly. If LCA can keep the ball away from Hazard's offense, they have a chance.

It doesn't exist any more to my chagrin, but when we played at Cumberland before the consoladation they had the best polish sausages withpeppers and onions!

Well not from Fairview, but we played them so here is my analysis from what I saw. They have a pretty physical line, but if your DT's saty at home they have trouble getting the guards out. They run the full back trap very well and 44 is a bowling ball down hill runner, if you hit him high he will carry your for a ride. When they line up with #2 at QB in their version of the wild cat, he has nice vision and patience and is a home run threat. They only threw the ball once against us and we picked it. Watching the QB in warm ups though he seems to have a pretty good arm. Defensively Fairview sat in man coverage all night with no free safety. This made them vulnerable to our posts and slants. #16 is a very good corner in coverage but does not tackle real well. I think they will struggle with discipline and in watching LCA's offense they will have to be very very disciplined. I did think Fairview would be much faster and would rate their team speed as average to slightly above average. I do think #2 and #44 are the key to the game and if LCA shuts them down it could be a long night. Like I said, not from Fairview but hope this helps. One other thing, Fairview needs to watch out for getting too hyped, an earlier poster said something about them being very focused. If they come out tight and overly geeked it could cost them in penalties quickly.

I have the good fortune to know Russ well from his time at Cumberlands. He is dedicated, hard working, and very knowledgeable. He will get the program on track if shortsighted folks give him half a chance. Thoughts and prayers are with you Russ.
