I'm sure Fairview, much like Nicholas county will be favored. However, this Jacket team seems to rise to the occasion. I felt the Williamsburg Nicholas game was going to be a tight one and was greatly surprised that the Burg routed the Blue Jackets. The jackets d led by Root, Perkins, and Hoffman is playing hard and I expect a close game this week.

Many felt that Nicholas would be more physical. The Williamsburg defense set the tone early and dominated the line of scrimmage. Andrew Root and Cody Perkins continue to be outstanding, and Kevin Hoffman is a big play guy. The offense really came out on fire after a lackluster performance with Pineville. Am beginning to wonder if this Jacket team may be a big surprise in the playoffs. Fairview is next and the jackets get them at home. They are tough at the burg so who knows. I'm sure Fairview will be the favorite, but I for one would not be surprised if Williamsburg doesn't pull off the upset.

Well my heart is going out on a limb with this one....Root, Perkins, and Thomas lead a jacked up defense to a 24 - 22 win for the Yellow Jackets at home.

How much of a factor will the weather be for this one? Its rainy and cold in the Burg today. Findley Legion field is an excellent playing surface and drains very well. Williamsburg runs the spread and has been very balanced this year and is still formindable through the air. I'm looking for a very tight game tonight.

Williamsburg may be favored and has played a tough schedule. Nicholas appears to be very well coached. Would be surprised if its more than 6 points either way. My heart will pull for the Jackets but I'm afraid the Blue Jackets may have the upper hand.

Williamsburg limps into the playoffs after a heart breaking loss to Pineville last week. The defense played well but the offense with turnovers and penalties didn't get the job done. Nicholas County comes in off a big win. On film Nicholas looks to have good size and to be well coached. Can the Jackets rebound after the Pineville loss or will Nicholas County be too physical for the Jackets?

Daddy Cat I also remember Richard Reese for the Campers having 27 tackles in a game once, he was a player.

Daddy Cat you may remember that Root kid as he had 24 tackles a touchdown and threw a 2 point conversion against you all in that mud bowl at the Burg that year. He has a little brother thats a senior this year that had 15 tackles against Lynn Camp this year. As always that game is a fun one to watch as both teams leave it all on the field!

Well its Thursday so prediction time. Pineville has the leading rusher in the state. Williamsburg has been much better on defense and has been shutting everyone in the district down on offense. Root and Perkins have been playing at all star levels. The Jackets offense has been very efficient led by Hamlin, and Payne is an all state candidate at receiver. Thomas and Hoffman have emerged as quality running backs bringing balance to the offense. This will be a hard fought one but I'm going to go with the Jackets 24-14.

In 2006 Williamsburg's Aaron Root had 32 against Harlan. He had 21 solo and 11 assists. Unfortunately for the Jackets that night, if he wasn't in on the play it didn't get done as they lost a close one. He also had all 3 of the Jackets touchdowns that evening.

Would love to see that come true. The defense has been playing much better. Coach Hatcher has been coming up with some nice schemes and is utilizing Root, Perkins, Hoffman, and Thomas in ways they have really bought in to.

I tend to agree that it will be a close one. Last year it went down to the final play so to speak with the Lions missing a field goal. I think it could be one of those where whoever has the ball last pulls out a win. Don't think 10 points will seperate these two when the smoke clears.

With this being such a long tem rivalry I would have thought there would be a bit of discussion on here.

By the way these two played in the pre-season grid at Corbin with Williamsburg prevailing 8-6. Alot has changed for both teams since then and I for one am interested in seeing how far thay have come.

One of the longest running rivalries in the state resumes this Friday night as the Jackets and Mountain Lions clash at Findley-Legion stadium in the Burg. The Jackets are flying high right now after a big win against arch rival Lynn Camp. Pineville enters the game after a big loss to Hazard. Both teams are having pretty good years. Pineville has one of, if not the, top rusher in the state. Williamsburg's d led by Andrew Root and Cody Perkins has been vastly improved allowing only 32 points in district play. JP Payne has evolved into an all state candidate at receiver, Logan Hamlin has stepped up at QB, and the duo of Travis Thomas and Kevin Hoffman at RB has made for a balanced and dangerous attack. Can The Burg stay on a roll and keep momentum going into the playoffs against a good Mountain Lion squad? Can the Lions bounce back from Hazard? This game was a barn burner last year going down to the wire. Could a moderator put this into a poll format please?

I believe you are correct. Even though this is a huge rivalry and the schools have no love lost between them, I always enjoy this one.

JP has been outstanding this year. Truly had a big game Friday, but if you ask me the difference in the game was how physical Williamsburg's defense has become. Root and Perkins are flat out laying the wood to people, and Thomas on the edge has been very good. JP should make All State if there is any justice, and I would campaign for him to be district player of the year. I would also campaign for Hamlin to be QB of the year, Root to be LB of the year and Perkins lineman of the year, but hey I'm partial...lol

Williamsburg wins its third title in four years with this win against the Campers. After the previous weeks huge emotional win against Campbellsville, I wondered what the Jackets had left in the tank. The offense shot itself in the foot a few times and stopped themselves on at least 3 drives on the night. However, with the exception of one big play, the defense kept the Campers in check. The game never really had a flow to it, yet Williamsburg took care of business. This Jacket team was much more physical than Lynn Camp tonight. Root and Perkins continue to fly around making plays. Thomas ran tough but ball security was a problem. Although he had an off night throwing Hamlin ran well and led the offense to 3 scores. Payne put up another 100 plus yard receiving night. It was a bit ugly overall, but sometimes in a championship run you have to win ugly. Most games between these two bitter rivals aren't very pretty anyway. Its a great win Jackets, we're proud of you! Enjoy the off week and then get ready for those Mountain Lions from Pineville!

Well this is it...tonight is the big game. Here's hoping it's an injury free night for both squads, and that the Jackets come out flying high and rolling. I'm pretty pumped and can't wait for kickoff!

I was thinking, after the losses that Williamsburg had to graduation, players such as the all time leading passer, and an all state receiver, as well as other key players, that this would have been a re-building year for the Jackets. However, they are poised to win their third district title in 4 years. I think that this is a testament to what a marvelous job Jerry Herron and his staff of Mike Abbot, Vaughn Hatcher, David Root, Chad Price, Troy Thomas, Matt Jones, and Will Renfro have done. Personally I think Coach Herron may be one of the most under rated coaches in SE KY. He really gets those kids to buy in to wearing the orange and taking pride in Williamsburg football. As to the game friday, Williamsburg is on a roll. They have been more physical on defense than I have seen in at least 4 years. Root and Perkins have been smashing ball carriers and quarterbacks like their lives depend on it. Logan Hamlin has taken the bull by the horns and flourished at QB. JP Payne should be all state at receiver and is making plays like a demon. The two headed beast of Hoffman and Thomas have made this a very balanced attack. I know Campers will disagree but I think Williamsburg will be more physical again this year and will win the District title outright with a 32 - 12 victory.
