This thread is pretty much going nowhere... But I will say if a player doesn't want to risk not playing at all, go to NCC. But at the same time Highlands does offer quite the competition for them.... They both have pros and cons, it basically just depends on what the kid and what their family want going into high school. In my opinion you can't go wrong with either. No need to put either down or embarrass whichever school.... And as someone who had Carl as a teacher, yes he still does.

Ok, SOS wise, I would say the 3rd schedule looks the toughest, followed by the 2nd one, the last one listed, and then the very first one. (Yes I listed in order of toughest schedule to weakest.) So I would have to say the team with the 3rd schedule would easily if it's based on SOS alone.

The 2010 team, yes. 2012, don't think so. And you can't compare Beechwood's injuries to Brady Hightchew getting hurt in that game, so an inexperienced Josh Cain came in and got sacked about 10 times. As far as a blown call, we don't even know for sure either way so let's not get on that topic. All I know is anyone saying anything about NCC losing to BW recently needs to realize the game is always close and can go either way, and is truly one of the best rivalries around. Not to mention NCC isn't complaining that every year since 2005 that they've lost to BW, they have went on to win state (aside from 2011). Oh yeah, did I mention how the 2005 NCC team that beat Mayfield 42-7 in the state title game lost to BW 24-21 that year? Then BW went on to get killed by LCA in the playoffs. You just can't look at the NCC vs. BW game and predict any results based on it because it's just not going to be accurate, so just don't drag NCC into this topic. It's about BW's coaches vs. Mayfield's, and Mayfield's has the edge based on the recent track record.

Ok, now it's getting a little off topic... Freshman football isn't a really accurate judgement when we're talking varsity now.... Yes, the NCC freshman in 2008 lost to HHS 28-8, and it was 8-8 at the start of the 4th quarter, then HHS sealed the game when they made it (I think 20-8), a few injuries happened to NCC (Hightchew started to cramp, a starting lineman separated their shoulder, etc.), and the wheels fell off, HHS went on to score another TD with 1 minute left for the victory. But again, just because they stuck with them in freshman doesn't mean they can in varsity (aka Beechwood's freshman team.) I agree with mexitucky. I could have saw NCC compete and possibly beat HHS in 2005, 2007 or 2010. Aside from those years, I don't think there'd be much of a chance.

Did you miss the part about NCC not wanting to schedule them? Or did you just ignore it? Obviously NCC wouldn't try to get on the schedule if they don't want to be....

That has literally nothing to do with it... And if you think it does, you obviously have no clue on the situation.... As long as a Schneider is coaching at NCC, Highlands will never be on their schedule. Bob wanted nothing to do with Highlands, and Dave is still there, and Bob as well (just not as HC.) Just saying, if Highlands had the chance they would probably schedule NCC, and your mentality of "NCC isn't good enough" is lacking, as if I'm correct Highlands has been playing Beechwood. Fact of the matter is it's a lose-lose for both schools, and it'll never happen.

You're really underestimating the factor of NCC's salary. He as of last year had his second child so he definitely needs the money and needs to look after his financial future. He was a great coach and a great teacher. Good luck to him in his future endeavors.

It is a battle of two opinions... No one wins in an opinion war so I'd agree with Millertime. What you're seeing is two sides that won't budge either way. As someone referenced to earlier, if they consider it a State championship by their standards, by all means let them. My opinion is definitely with UKMustangFan. As far as I know though Guru, this topic is about NCC basketball players playing football, so I'd also suggest to you to suggest for these people to take this argument about this "All A State Championship" into another thread. Especially since this is in the "KY Football (High School)" section.

Down year? 10-4 seems on par with their recent seasons. They had 3 losses being to Highlands, CovCath and Dixie before the playoffs. I wouldn't call it a down year.. Also, it's a rivalry game what do you expect? If you follow the NCC-Beechwood rivalry at all, you would know just about anything could happen when they play. That thriller of a game proved that.

I saw Cameron Fogle was visiting UK the other day. Possible they offered him a preferred walk-on spot? It's possible.

I might be underselling Eddie, but I think a lot of people underestimate the 2010 group. A group that wasn't even challenged in the playoffs, and 2 losses came on a controversial play, and an extremely good Ryle team. Also, the 7-5 team that Eddie took over had a new sohpmore QB, who was still learning even being a QB, and were very inexperienced aside from the O-Line. Sorry, but I really find it hard to believe you can compare one of the best NCC state title teams to one that didn't win a title. Just not buying it. Seeing Brady Hightchew from 2009 to 2010 is the reason for the turn around. If you watched the games, as I watched every single one both years, you would see. What I think was the case though, was Eddie's system was the perfect fit for Brady Hightchew. It complimented him perfect due to him not being much of a throwing QB. Again, I don't know how many times I need to say it, hopefully this is the last time, so people stop quoting and taking what I say out of context. Eddie is a good coach, Eddie did coach up a good team, BUT 2010-2012 have had some VERY talented teams. And to claim the 2010 team was not extremely talented is foolish. But enough of this arguing and what not that has been ongoing. I wish Eddie the best, and hope NCC makes a great decision in hiring a HC.

To say a roster that was loaded and actually gave Ryle a game the year they beat Highlands is "no different than most years" is totally not true. A roster with Brady Hightchew, Chris Kelly, Jake Cain, Jake Giesler, Jack Gruenschlager, Brian Doyle (I believe NCC's all-time leader in int's), don't even make me name more. The talent that year that he inherited was ridiculous. That's almost equal to Tubby Smith inheriting Rick Pitino's roster at UK. Again, not saying Eddie doesn't deserve credit, but you implying that the talent was "no different than most years" is just not true.

I know, if you read my other posts, I did give him credit. But to claim that Eddie is solely responsible shows you aren't that close to the program. In the past 7-8 years, NCC has had an influx of talent, Sam Diehl, Michael Vicars, Jared Harris, Rob Kues, Mark Kelly, Chris Kelly, all kinds of big names. The school hasn't struggled with it really since 2005, also being when Bob was the coach, but in 2007-2008, they ran into a train in Fort Campbell, and still almost came away with it the second time around, despite Rob Kues separating his shoulder. I'm sorry, but the talent level recently has been much higher than previous years. I will give Eddie however that the talent coming in right now being sophmores on down, will mainly be there due to his success. But before that, those were kids that grew up watching and admiring the NCC program, and all came in at a good time, and meshed well together. Yes, Eddie was a good coach as I said, but people are giving him all the credit, which is what my post was about, the players deserve A LOT of credit as well.

All I'm going to say is, NCC usually "stays within the house" when it comes to hiring. Whether it be teachers, coaching, everything. Teachers usually Covcath/NCC grads, and coaches usually NCC grads, BUT when they hire a HC (not much of a history of it, but when there is), they usually are interested in, and hire someone already on staff. Odds are pretty good someone on the staff right now gets the job. I remember in 2010, I believe they interviewed/considered Sam Beiting (Teacher and DB coach), was freshman coach), Tony (I think) Acito, he was a teacher at the time, and was an assistant coach at Mt. St. Joes in Ohio, Dave Schneider (O-Coordinator), Eddie Eviston who was on staff (I think QB's coach at that time), and obviously Dan Wagner, who was already the D-coordinator. You look at that, and think, do you really think they'll hire someone that's not already at NCC in some shape or form? I don't think so, it's unlikely. But after Eddie leaving, I think they're going to see among their candidates, and see who would take the job and stay for a long time. It'll be an interesting process, especially if Carl Foster is the one searching. Just to throw a wild card out there though, I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibility a re-hire of Bob Schneider considering he is still on the coaching staff as he came out of retirement. All depends on if he can handle it. I would think he'll be the 1st person they turn to, again that's why the Carl Foster part intrigues me, because Carl will definitely contact Bob.

I know what you're saying, and it's not as talented, but those two teams were extremely talented. He did do a good job overall, I'm just trying not to take anything away from this years' seniors. And agreed, I wish him the best.

Again, if you read my post accurately, "I could go on about this group of seniors for days." They had a great group of seniors, and a phenomenal junior in Mac Franzen. Don't mistake it, they were very talented, and as far as depth, name a Newcath team that has actually had depth. We are no Highlands, we are a 2A school (and should be 1A), NCC doesn't have the numbers like big schools, NCC has multiple players going both ways. Even on the 2010 team they lacked depth. I'm pretty sure the talent will keep coming, especially with Jacob Smith at RB, the tradition will continue, and they will bring good talent to the hill, with many schools are starting to feed into NCC. Not debating developing Cain, because he's came a long way.

Brady Thacker started as a sophmore, Dylan Hayes got PT as a sophmore, and started as a junior, I can go on for days about these seniors... The talent was absolutely not down. Maybe compared to 2010, but not down.

That's always supposedly been an obstacle, but I'll tell you this much, if that's required, Wags will more than likely get a job in the building. Realistically, he seems like and is NCC's perfect candidate, and has been since Coach Schneider retired. Tough to follow Bob's illustrious career, and Eddie's 2 titles, but Wags is capable of it.

Was made aware of the situation while at work this morning. I believe he had a meeting with the seniors today. But I'm not too worried, as I wanted Wagner to be head coach in the first place last time around. If he's not the pick this time, I'll be extremely disappointed. What NCC needs and wants is someone that will stay at the program, and not use it as a stepping stone, Wags is that guy. I wouldn't look in so much to Eddie's record though (again no shot at Eddie, but stating facts), I mean look at the talent on those teams, it's ridiculous. Chris Kelly, Jake Giesler, and many others on the 2010 team, Brady Hightchew, and others on the 2011 team, and Dylan Hayes, Josh Cain, Brady Thacker and others on this 2012 edition. Anything short of the success they had would have been extremely disappointing. Best of luck to Eddie though, but looking forward to Wags becoming the HC.

I am not sure. Mason dressed vs. Somerset but did not play, if I had to guess, I'd say he'd be available but limited.

Nkypete's assessment sounds about right. NCC for years think of the running game, Michael Vicars to Mark Kelly with Rob Kues, to Chris Kelly with Brady Hightchew, to Dylan Hayes, and it seems next in like will be the freshman Jacob Smith. It's just always the way it is, and Dan Wagner always has the defense ready to play. I for one was surprised he hasn't gotten a head coaching job yet, he's a phenomenal coach. But they're going to beat you running, and always have a solid QB, Sam Diehl, Jared Harris, Rob Kues, Brady Hightchew, and now Josh Cain. Josh is more like Diehl or Harris though because he's not really that much of a running QB, but he's shown he's improving every week, and is a player NCC can rely on. But yeah, same thing almost every year for NCC, tough QB, good RB, very tough defense. Though I believe this NCC team is not as strong as the 2010 or 2011, I think it's going to take a really good game from Caldwell County to win. As far as Mayfield goes, let's not get in that mess again, we beat you guys in 2005, by a pretty significant margin, and in 2010 where everyone was comparing non-stop, I feel like we would have won as well. Don't forget, the 2010 NCC team was a few turnovers away from taking Ryle to the wire, a Ryle team that beat Highlands, and gave Trinity one of their better games.

I'm thinking Fairview or Bowling Green could go undefeated, but both are potentially vulnerable. Fairview blew out a good Hazard team, and it should make an interesting 1A title game. I feel a lot of people underestimate Cooper as a whole, and I think if they play well enough, they can pull off the upset. PRP, sorry but the ride's over.

I was close, predicted the score 35-17. Mayfield always has BW's number, and expected about the same this year. Curious as to when this Mayfield reign of dominance will end, given BW's really good freshman class, but then again, last year's BW seniors were extremely good as freshman, and the class as a whole didn't pan out at all. We'll see how the future goes.
