Who has seen him play? He will be a freshman this year and is listed as 6'7". He is the son of former UK player Johnathon Davis who is a friend of mine and ironically coached by Former Cawood Trojan coach Greg Coldiron. I've only seen a couple of YouTube videos of him, but he looks pretty good for 14 years old.

He's a good coach...he had a TON of talent at Cumberland and they probably underachieved...I'd say he has grown a lot as a coach since then. Good luck Coach Frazier.

Thanks for posting HDE....was always one of my favorite days when I lived in Harlan to get this article out of the paper box. Looking forward to Alex Seargent....grew up with his father and have heard a lot about him. Hope he does well.

I'll be rooting hard for Lafayette from a distance. Coldiron coached at JACHS while I was there and i'm a huge fan of his. They also have one of UK's own on staff that I'm friends with...I'm hoping for this upset.

not sure who they play tonight, but supposed to play a really good out of state team on Saturday night. I read it on KSR I think...

I grew up getting thumped by CCath or Highlands in the first round of the playoffs before they changed it back in the day and am NOT a fan of them...however, I'll say this. I lived in Birmingham and watched 5 or 6 games when Hoover had John Parker and Chad Jackson (one of which was against John David Booty and the FB from LSU's HS team) and i'd put this years Highlands team up against either of them. Not saying they would win, but they would give them all they wanted. Haven't seen a Texas HS team since my cousin played for the state championship with Plano East when I was a kid, so can't speak to that. Highlands was very good this year though.

I disagree. While most would have been very excited to see him in the blue and white, there will always be a group ripping on any and all kids. Just the sad nature of these boards.

I'll throw this out for the 90's team in the link and probably get blasted...but, Scotty Russel from Evarts. Toughest player in HS i've played against.

I've heard stories of that 78 game...and they aren't good ones as a Cawood fan. I've only asked one person that played on that team to tell me about it and I got a look that I will never forget. I never asked again. I remember that Cumberland team from their games with Cawood that year, but I wasn't at the Regional tourny game.

I'm having trouble remembering 83...

Memories of 1981 and 1986 still eat at me. :(

Scott Russell played LB as well as RB.

I had a brother in law star for an earlier team (1984), but 86 was a very fun year. I was a few years younger than those guys, but grew up watching Shack and Dempsey at Loyall and those guys were awesome.

I obviously grew up in Harlan as my name suggests, but haven't lived there in years. I've been a huge fan of HDE for years and actually still have my homepage set as the newspaper in Harlan. I have a family connection in Corbin coaching so i've started reading some Les articles too. I love to read the discussions on here and I appreciate all of the knowledge you guys bring. I don't always agree with everything you all say (99 percent with HDE) but I do enjoy it. Keep up the great work.

I felt sorry for Lee's#26. He was the only player they had. Harlan's D line played well.

I'll be coming in from TN to watch this one. I'm with HDE, if they lose this week...watch out, it could get ugly.

I know this isn't KY football, but if you all aren't watching this game on ESPN right now you are missing one of the most exciting football games i've watched. Cedar is at home and ranked 12 in the nation and are down 1 point late in the 3rd quarter. Lots of talent and speed in this game.

I'll still put Phil's game up against Farmer...maybe i'm biased a little, but I would. I know he isn't the most liked person around Cawood Athletics (when Cawood was still there), but his game was exceptional. I didn't see Stepp play, so that is why I made the Farmer comparison.

Nice interview. Good job. I stumbled on an article about Phil Cox (Mr. Basketball '81) from Cawood High School a few years ago and it's always great to see where these guys end up in life.

I played in the early 90's against 2 players that were both drafted out of HS and I would put Chris up against either as a defensive outfielder. He was a much better OF than P.

Chris Saylor from Cawood was IMO one of the best defensive CF to come through the region in a long time. He was also a very hard throwing lefty pitcher that battled arm injuries his entire Sr. season. Justin Harris was also on that team and a very good lefty P that I think spent his Sr. season at Middlesboro. I think both deserve mentioning on this thread. John Smith from Harlan High School looked good as a young player, I moved away and didn't get to follow his career.

I watched him last year I think at Harlan Co. Is he really 220 lbs? I don't live in KY and was just in visiting when I went to the Harlan Co./'Boro game, but he looked quite a bit smaller than that.

I live in TN and am from Harlan Co...as hard as it is to root for Bell, I will be in this case.
