Just to initiate a little offseason chatter in the 13th region, I thought we could discuss the top players in the 13th since 2000. A short list I would make of obvious players would be:

 

Trey Smith- 2007 South Laurel- Great pitcher (signed DI)

B.J. Foley- 2002 Corbin- Unbelievable hitter and solid defender (Signed DII I think)

Brian Powell- 2002 Middlesboro- Best defensive player in a long time (Signed DI and heard he transferred to Georgetown to finish)

Aaron Anderkin- 2003 Rockcastle- Great pitcher, battled injuries near the end (Signed DI)

Matt Clark- 2004 Cumberland- Very good pitcher on very average team (signed DI)

Vince Powell- 2004 Middlesboro- Great hitter and above average defensive catcher (Signed DI)

Colby Brown- 2005 Rockcastle- Hardest thrower to come from our region in a long time (signed DI)

 

 

 

I think this is probably the cream of the crop. What do you all think?

I would put Kenny Kyser on there from Corbin, he graduated in 05 and is in Kansas I believe at a pro scouts camp.

I thought about adding several Corbin players. Kyser was good, as was Mahan and Bram Hoover.

Chris Saylor from Cawood was IMO one of the best defensive CF to come through the region in a long time. He was also a very hard throwing lefty pitcher that battled arm injuries his entire Sr. season. Justin Harris was also on that team and a very good lefty P that I think spent his Sr. season at Middlesboro. I think both deserve mentioning on this thread.

 

John Smith from Harlan High School looked good as a young player, I moved away and didn't get to follow his career.

I do remember Saylor being a good pitcher. Teams didn't want to draw them first round just because of him. I don't really remember his defense at all which leads me to think it may not have been quite as good in my opinion.

I played in the early 90's against 2 players that were both drafted out of HS and I would put Chris up against either as a defensive outfielder. He was a much better OF than P.
