I was just going off of Mike Field's live blog. I assume he is at the game - I wonder why he thinks they pushed a run across in the bottom of the 7th. Sorry about that.

Region 11 - Schoernick (spelling?) (Catcher from Lexington Catholic).

Owensboro's run to the state tournament is much more impressive than Shelby County's run two years ago or Christian Academy of Louisville's run last year. All three quite unlikely and impressive, but from five regular season wins to the state tournament is near unbelievable.

Hands down should be the best semi-state match up - Bullitt East vs. Elizabethtown. Winner of this has a legit shot at the state title. I'm favoring Bullitt East behind the pitching of Alphin and Bowles.

I'm thinking it's going to be your classic Shelby County vs. Anderson County 8th region championship game.

If you're not confident that your #2 will win in the championship, why would you gamble and throw him in the semi's. I'm telling you, if Henry Clay beats Catholic and Franklin throws their #2 at them, they'll be sorry. This strategy will not work. I would go with my #1 in the semis, then take your chances in the final, anything can happen.

The Henry Clay/Lexington Catholic matchup is the only interesting first round game. I would say Bryan Station/Madison Central would be interesting, but LCA will handle whatever team in the second round. With Franklin County getting a semifinal bye (sorry Model), they'll be able to save their ace, Thompson, for the Clay/Catholic winner. Franklin County meets Lexington Christian in the region finals, with LCA winning because of a deeper pitching staff.

Why doesn't the Whitman kid get to pitch more? I saw him pitch against Lexington Catholic and he seemed to throw the ball real well, but a parent I was talking to said he hasn't really thrown many innings for GRC this year.

I doubt any team is going to pitch their ace against Woodford County (13-19) either. Some teams may also try to gamble to get by Bryan Station (14-13) without their ace. Lexington Catholic is really the only district runner-up you have to worry a lot about.

I doubt a "cinderella" type team will win the region. I would consider the cinderella teams Bryan Station, Woodford County and Model - none who will win this region. Any of the others - Lexington Christian, Lexington Catholic, Henry Clay, Franklin County or Madison Central really can't be considered cinderella teams. Like I said, depends on the draw, but here's how I see things: 1. Lexington Christian (District Champ) 2. Franklin County (District Champ) 3. Henry Clay (District Champ) 4. Lexington Catholic (District Runner-Up) 5. Madison Central (District Champ) 6. Bryan Station (District Runner-Up) 7. Woodford County (District Runner-Up) 8. Model (District Runner-Up)

You go with your ace, Isler, to give him game work if not anything else. He'll have plenty of time before regionals start so he's going to have to throw anyway at some point before the 9th starts, so you might as well give him game work. Plus, it's a district championship and you want to give your team the best chance of winning. A no brainer, really.

I'd have to say you are probably the only one not surprised by this. This is definitely one of the biggest first round upsets, if not the biggest, this year. I would say the 11th region winners can rest a little easier now that they get to play Woodford County (assuming they lose to #9 Franklin County) or Model (assuming they lose to #21 Madison Central) this year. Taking Western Hills out of the picture definitely opens things up for some of the other schools. This is what postseason baseball is all about though!

Then what is he signing? I was under the impression Division III schools do not award athletics scholarships, nor do Division III schools participate in the National Letter of Intent. Regardless, congratulations on choosing a great school!

I thought Transylvania was a Division III school?

I wouldn't say that. I just think Madison Central isn't as good as their record indicates. They've had some good games, sure, but most of their wins are over teams that most any other 11th region team would beat also. With that said, however, I do believe Lexington Christian is the best team in the 11th region.

Dunbar must be struggling with their bats. Henry Clay's Grant Klinksiek no-hit them recently and it was his first start of the year.

Poor Ballard... another one run loss to a very good team.

That is why Franklin County moved up and the three you mentioned moved down.

Ballard is the best 12-16 in the state. They have one run losses to Tate (FL), PRP, Tates Creek, Eastern, Southern, Manual, Lexington Catholic and Oldham County. It is good to see them finally pull out a close one. Tates Creek has lost two in a row but they'll be fine. With Trevor Gott on the mound against Lex Cath, things should go well for them.

Lexington Catholic maybe had four or five hits this game. Clark County walked about ten or more guys this game. Lexington Catholic's losses have been to Estill County (5-2), West Jessamine (3-2), Lexington Christian (11-1), Henderson County (8-1), Lexington Christian (8-3), Mercer County (8-6) and Trinity (2-1). IMO, Lexington Catholic is too highly rated and will probably lose in the first round of the districts to Tates Creek.
