Why would you think this is a joke? Shumate's last outing was a complete-game (five hitter) win with 6 k's and one earned run over Holy Cross (who is a very good hitting team). That said, Shumate is only a Soph., Isler is the best pitcher in N KY, and this is the district championship.

BTW, with the next game not until Monday Ice will pitch a complete game today. I can't imagine a reliever entering today's game.

There's no way you want to take any chance and lose this game so you have to go with Isler. Now, I know Cov Cath would probably win with 2 or 3 different pitchers since Smith won't be going for Beechwood, but you take no chance. You want to be matched up with a District runner-up in the first round of Regional's.

CovCath goes with Ice today and young Shumate, even though the young man is going to be a outstanding pitcher next year, Adam doesn't even see the mound the rest of the year! Far too many pitchers to throw before you go with him, including Krumme, Gerwe, and Slagbaum to name just three before going to Darner in a pinch. His job is to watch and learn how seniors Isler, Nutini and Krumme do it. His turn will come and he will be ready for it, as he is a good student of the game as we learned the other day at Dixie when he didn't get upset when his "D" failed him twice in the first inning. Earlier in the year he got upset, but as I said, he has watched and learned. He is maturing nicely....

WOW, what a crazy thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You go with your ace, Isler, to give him game work if not anything else. He'll have plenty of time before regionals start so he's going to have to throw anyway at some point before the 9th starts, so you might as well give him game work. Plus, it's a district championship and you want to give your team the best chance of winning. A no brainer, really.

It should not matter. I don't see Beechwood being any competition for Cov.Cath
