Ludlow's Daniel Hammons to sign with Transy today

Ludlow's ace pitcher, Daniel Hammons, will sign with Transylvania this afternoon at school.

 

Daniel has had a lot of interest since the Richard Skinner article, but chose Transylvania.

Then what is he signing? I was under the impression Division III schools do not award athletics scholarships, nor do Division III schools participate in the National Letter of Intent.

Usually when kids decide to "sign" with schools that do not offer scholarships, they are pretty much just doing it for the formality of the process of choosing where they will being going to school and having a sort of an "official signing" is ceremonial to allow the kid to receive some much deserved attention for furthering his baseball career at the next level.

I just received the e-mail from his mother. Congratulations to Daniel, this has been a long process he has gone through to decide which school to attend. He made a fine choice and I am sure he will succeed. Congratulations to not only him but his Mother and family. After the season he just had, he deserves it.
