Kinda seems like not so long ago that O.J. Mayo was having just as much success as a middle schooler playing varsity. And while he still has a few years to go the buzz around this kid isn't a fraction of what it was with the recruitment of Rex Chapman. Both of those guys were top #10 NBA draft picks. Maybe we pump the brakes just a bit on that talk until we see what this kid actual accomplishes.

Owensboro Catholic took a 20-0 lead with 11:53 in the 2nd qtr. Daviess Co. woke up and outscored them 49-6 the rest of the way. It was 21-20 DC at the half.

So much for not getting an offer and taking all those official visits first.

I looked in the linked article but it didn't mention the Selmon Expressway. I would like to know more about what it means to be a "controlled highway" How is it monitored and by whom? As far as driverless Uber and Lyft vehicles, I would think that this would be cost prohibitive for these companies. It doesn't seem to me that they pay their drivers enough to offset the cost of vehicle acquisition, maintenance, registration, insurance, and fuel. Plus it seems like they would have to have a lot of vehicles available to meet demand during peak times, that would just sit around unused most of the day. Perhaps I'm wrong. Personally I do not think that I would like to have an automated car. I like being in control, and I'm used to driving so much for work that I can hardly stand to ride as a passenger. About the only appeal that I see is the ability to perhaps travel while you sleep, but I'm somebody who likes to drive over flying simply due to the fact that for me when going on vacation the drive is often as exciting as the destination. (Except for I-70 between Topeka, KS and Denver, CO. I've driven that once (each way) which is more than enough for a lifetime.)

Not with anything equivalent. The area where the Executive Inn was formely located now has a new convention center. To it's west side is a new 5-story Holiday Inn, and to it's east side is a new 7-story Hampton Inn, which IMO is quite a bit nicer than most Hampton Inn's. I would guess however, the both hotels combined do not offer as many guest rooms as were once available at the Executive Inn.

Outside of Owensboro Catholic, this shouldn't really have an affect on the local teams. As an Owensboro resident this seems like a win for the city. We need you guys to come help us pay for those fancy water fountains down on the river.

So Thursday night's UK / K-ST game was a real bummer, but there was one bright spot. I had what was probably the best steak I've ever ate during the game. Went with a friend of mine to watch the game at his cousins and his cousin cooked my steak on a pellet smoker. The grill was made by Green Mountain. I think it's electric but uses wood pellets to heat the meat. Anyhow, for a smoker is did a pretty good job of searing the outside of the steak and seemed to cook much more quickly than I would have thought would be possible with a smoker. I'm seriously considering buying one once I can save up the cash as they are a little pricey. The grill was pretty high tech it had built in wifi so that he could see from his phone when my steak was medium rare. Took it off the grill and it was cooked exactly as advertised. Anybody else have experience with this brand or any recommendations.

The current women's world record for the 100 meter dash is 10.49 seconds held by Florence Griffith-Joyner. The current boy's record in Kentucky for the same event is 10.42 held by William Allen of PLD. I think you will find similar comparisons in most other ways that athletes can be measured. When you consider that a kid in high school can outrun a world class professional female track and field athlete, this thread kinda seems silly.

Bob Mantooth is closing in on 1,000 career wins. The overwhelming majority of these were without Ryne Mantooth in the dugout. He will be fine.

While they might not be the best, it seems like Lamont Barnes and Isiah Victor at least deserve to be mentioned in this thread.

Barry Barnes? I haven't been to a high school game in several years, but I'm pretty sure he was officiating back when I graduated in '93. He must have been a lot younger than he looked back then, otherwise I'm shocked that he is still active.

Seems like the lack of a passing threat is what has been holding OHS back since as long as I can remember. Based of what Warren did at OCHS I can't see how he isn't under center from day 1. The Devils usually have plenty of kids capable of running the ball, but me and my buddy who goes to just about every OHS game, couldn't figure out while Owsley didn't get more carries.

You've got Ben Duvall 2007 listed under both Apollo and Owensboro. As best as I can remember he only attended Owensboro. Also I didn't see Houston Hogg listed 67 or 68. He began playing for Hazard before transfering and playing his senior season at Daviess County.

But even with going 13-0, UCF was never going to have a realistic chance at winning the championship. They were never going to be invited to the playoff. If they had set a goal to win the championship should their season be judged a failure. Unless we are counting self appointed championships, they were never going to win one this year.

If a team's goal is to win a championship, good for them, but for most teams that is simply unrealistic. At some point I was taught that goals need to be attainable. For a lot of schools a football state championship simply isn't possible, unless the stars were to completely line up in their favor. There are a variety of reasons for athletes to play a sport other than to win a championship. Sure all athletes would like to be champions but there are quite a few other benefits that come from playing a sport. Consider college basketball. Currently there are 351 teams competing in D1. Over the last 30 years only 16 schools have won a title. Extend it a bit further and only 20 teams in the last 50 years. It would be silly for 90% of the schools participating to seriously have a goal of winning a championship.

Didn't read the article, but I'm assuming their just the high school version of Virginia?
