2019 Kentucky 2A Classic will take place in Owensboro's SportsCenter

Featured Replies

The independent organization has signed an agreement to hold their 2A Classic tournament at the Owensboro SportsCenter from 2019 through 2021. The arena seats 5,000.

In additional to holding the 2A Basketball Classic for both boys competition and girls competition, the organization with also be starting a 2A Baseball Classic, 2A Softball Classic, and 2A Volleyball Classic in the 2020/21 school year, and then in the 2021/22 school year they will be adding both boys and girls 2A Soccer Classics.

This seems to settle the debate of if these events are state championships or not.

Sounds to me like the Kentucky 2A Championships organization sure as hell wants to make it sound like they are. What a bunch of slime-balls.

There is no debate here at BGP. There might be talk, but no debate.

Definitely should be called "Classic" as is referred to them here at BGP.

The "2A Classic" is what we have decided to go with here at BGP.

Happy to see that these folks are really serious about this.

These folks have their ducks in a row. It is well thought out.

Curious as to where the financial backing is coming from, since there is no up-front title sponsor.

Will make regular season scheduling a bit tougher, especially with the more compressed dates/games in our future.

Good luck to the 2A Classic !

Outside of Owensboro Catholic, this shouldn't really have an affect on the local teams. As an Owensboro resident this seems like a win for the city. We need you guys to come help us pay for those fancy water fountains down on the river.

Why does it matter what it is called? I don't understand why people would even care of what it is called. It will be a great tournament. Whether they call it a Championship or Tournament or Classic or Event or etc. It doesn't matter.

I've enjoyed some good times in Owensboro. We (Brossart) came down for a Holiday tournament hosted by OboroCath back in 2000, stayed at the Executive Inn, played at the Sportscenter, and had an overall wonderful experience.

Used to have some fine country music acts perform there as well.

Have they ever re-built/replaced the Executive Inn???

Does Owensboro Catholic play at the Sportscenter?

I like the idea of a 2A Classic. I don’t like it being pushed as the 2A State Championship.

Yes they do.

Not with anything equivalent. The area where the Executive Inn was formely located now has a new convention center. To it's west side is a new 5-story Holiday Inn, and to it's east side is a new 7-story Hampton Inn, which IMO is quite a bit nicer than most Hampton Inn's. I would guess however, the both hotels combined do not offer as many guest rooms as were once available at the Executive Inn.
