While a good player I think Donnie prefers to play more on the outside based on the games I saw him play.

Imo it will be awfully hard to deny Mr. Geisler the honor this year.

This should be a good chance for the younger kids to shine but I will be surprised if Holmes can overcome the loss of their 2 real penetrators. Rice will have to really step up his game but I don't know where the outside scoring will come from unless Palmer can get hot. This could be good for the team if Palmer and Peterson give them a boost. It will definitely hurt their bench though especially against Ballard Thursday night.

Lighten up Quickslick with your slanderous remarks. Noone quoted anyone as noted before. I agree that time will tell and I am sure that the players as well as the coaches will give a lot of effort but like I said there is always a possibility.

Imo the coach handled this well. All indications are that these are 2 pretty good kids and this was no criminal act so the punishment probably fits the crime.

The kind of score I expected. Ryle can cause certain teams fits in the regional. How would you like to draw Ryle as a loser if Boone Co. wins the 33rd district tournament?

Well said. I think we all tend to forget how demanding high school sports can be with the way coaches want players to focus year round on their sport. I don't think it used to be as stressful years ago. When football ended in the fall the athletes went to basketball and in the spring played baseball. They forgot about the previous sport until the following year. Today's coaches demand that players of their sport focus year round with weight training and various camps. The kids can get burned out pretty easily, especially the ones that still try to play multiple sports. Let them have some fun and enjoy themselves, especially the seniors.

Scott is a guard oriented team and if Highlands can't contain them defensively it could be a long night for the Birds. On the other hand Scott probably won't be able to handle the Highlnads "bigs" so look for them to pound it inside and hit the boards hard.

A lot depends on whether there is any discipline handed down over this weekend's happenings. Conner is certainly capable of playing close with any team in the 9th region on a given night.

In speaking to some around the Conner basketball program this is just not a very good shooting team. They don't seem to have many players that feel comfortable in taking the big shot. That said there is also the possibility that the coaching staff has given up on the season. I hope that is not the case as you only need to win 1 game to reach the regional and anything can happen then. There are a lot of seniors and if they could get excited for 2 weeks they could surprise some teams.

Who were the seniors, they only have a few to start with, Gray, Mayfield (injured) and Hayes besides Reese?

What I heard was that the region is Feb. 28 - Mar. 6. Girls 2/28, 3/1, 3/4, 3/6 Boys 3/2, 3/3, 3/5, 3/6.

Why don't we let coach Booher handle things on the Holmes front? After all most of this is speculation until we find out all the details and even then it's not our business as fans to say what should and should not be done.

Imo the 9th region tournament will be all about matchups. If districts go according to what many feel they will there are obvious regional participants. In the 34th it should be Dixie and Lloyd and in the 36th NCC and Highlands. In the 33rd it should be Boone Co, and Ryle but Conner could threaten Ryle for a spot. In the 35th Holmes should be there but Holy Cross and CCH will battle for the other spot. The district finals could make for interesting matchups come regional time. What if Boone Co. and Holmes lose their district championships and go into the regional as losers? If Highlands goes into the regional as a loser as everyone thinks they will they could cause some problems for certain teams. The obvious matchup that winners would like to draw would seem to be Lloyd but think about this. Boone Co. has beaten NCC. What if Boone Co. goes in as a loser and faces NCC first round. What if Holmes goes in as a loser and faces Dixie? Holmes has beaten Dixie. The district finals and then the regional draw are going to make for some interesting moments. All in all it is setting up for some very good tournament games in the greatest time of the year for high school basketball. All these teams should just be happy they don't reside in the 7th region. What a tournament that should be as well.

Holmes has 3 very good players, Hayes, Gray and Rice and some good complimentary players. For them to beat the top teams they have to get good performances from all 3 of their stars. When those 3 are on their game they are hard to beat but if one has an off night they can easily be beaten by a lot of teams in the 9th.

Simon Kenton fans are very tough on coaches. Danny Trame was run out of Simon after showing success. I also know that Jeff Marksberry was being raked over the coals in his early years before he had some success. I think that even today I hear things said that are unfair toward coach Steiner.

Well I guess we wait for a few more posters to determine whether NCC played man or zone based on varying observations. A lot of people think that Holmes plays man to man when they really play mostly zone. Who on NCC guarded Gray for Holmes? I would think that against a man with Geisler guarding a big and Hightchew probably guarding Hayes that Gray would be open all night. Once again I say hard to believe that NCC played man. They just aren't quick enough to do that against Holmes.

Holmes fresh off a home loss to NewCath travels to Louisville to take on the Bruins of Ballard fresh off a road win against George Rogers Clark. This is a rematch of an earlier meeting in the Hoopin it Up Classic won by Ballard 100-96. Can the Bulldogs stay close again or does Ballard run away with this one? Ballard will be coming off a home matchup with 7th region rival Eastern on Friday night which should be a dandy.

I can't even begin to believe that NCC played straight man against Holmes, maybe different variations of matchup zone but not man to man. If NCC plays man Holmes gets inside really easily and gets a lot of easy buckets,

Thank you very much for the updates. I am really surprised at the outcome after the way GRC jumped out in the first 2 minutes. It looks like it was all Ballard after the 1st quarter. If these 2 teams meet again @ Rupp in March I think it will be a different game if GRC can learn from this loss to the Bruins.
